  • Got my copy Friday (ps4) played it all damn day today I've forgotten how hard (yet fair) this games gets. I'm finally on the last stretch of the original game. Gotten frustrated and quit a dozen times already (pause and walk off for awhile) lol haven't done this in years, I love it.
  • Shovel Knight is such a great game. I finished this game over the weekend for the third time (first time on physical release, 2 other times on my download). Started Plague of Shadows for the first time and really not enjoying playing as Plague Knight. But I'm seeing it as bonus content. The last stretch of Shovel Knight is definitely challenging and I miss games that really make you try but aren't so difficult that it's near impossible. Clearly Yacht Club Games knows what the hell they were doing when they made this gem of a game.
  • I haven't played the game yet, as I was waiting for the physical release. Now I have to make a decision on the Wii U version or Xbone version. I know the Xbone physical release has been hampered, but man, the Battletoads are a selling point for me. Then again, the Wii U version will have Amiibo support, right? With a Shovel Knight amiibo? Hmm...decisions.
  • I'm late to the game in this, but my friend had B1G1 at his store and I saw professor Layton vs. ace attorney for $19 sealed, so I know I could flip that and get another game for cheap and tried Shovel Knight. I am blown away at how good this game is. I've only played one level and had a glitch in the game which made me had to power it off and took that opportunity to stop so I get some sleep before Black Friday sales tomorrow. Definitely worth $25!

Oh yea the game itself is fantastic. I'm also impressed with the quality of the package. No one makes full manuals anymore but clearly Yacht Club knows how to outdo themselves. I cannot wait for whatever their next game is! I've already played Shovel Knight through 3 times.
  • I was talking about it at a game store yesterday and the guy told me about two other games to try. I think one was called rogue legacy and the other is Mighty #9 or something. I think it has to do with the makers of mega man or something.

Rogue Legacy is a lot of fun and very very challenging, Mighty #9 hasn't been released yet, but it's being touted as a spiritual successor to the Mega Man series.

  • Rogue Legacy is awesome, only thing to compare to Shovel Knight is maybe the graphics but the game play is way different.

Absolutely impressed with the physical release. The cover art is gorgeous and a full manual instead of just a shitty piece of paper with a website is a really nice touch.

I like what Yacht Club has done with this game, I really hope they end up doing a sequel and other IPs.

Oh yeah, the physical release is great. I bought it for every available platform (3DS, Wii U, PS4) just to support Yacht Club Games. I reeealllly really want to see a sequel for this game, and really want to support developers who include things like a full instruction manual and a digital soundtrack of their games. I appreciate that extra bit of effort, and hopefully other devs will see what they've done and follow the example for their physical releases.

  • Just beat the main campaign of Shovel Knight. Absolutely loved the game. I started up the campaign for Plague Knight...not sure what to think of his controls after getting used to the pogo jump and other main campaign moves.
  • This game is AMAZING! I got it for Christmas, and while I've only played it for about 5 hours, I'm hooked and already want Yacht Club to make a 2nd one. I do know that there is a free update to the game which has lots of different content, so I'll definitely be downloading that once I beat this. This game is like a mashup between zelda and super mario bros. You've got the awesome variety of weapons, the upgrades, the good and challenging at times levels, the unlocking of the next stages by beating bosses, and the simplistic, yet smooth design of the characters and game as a whole. I HIGHLY recommend this game to everyone. It's cheap, fun, and new, yet familiar in game play.

Side note for anyone looking for a job, I saw on their website that Yacht Club is hiring right now.
  • I bought it with some gift return money but haven't played it yet, super excited to though! I'm a bit new to the whole Amiibo thing, though, is there really any added benefit to having it (other than it looking awesome!). I didn't want to search online and accidentally run across spoilers (also why, if it was mentioned somewhere above, I didn't read it).
  • I just finished new game+ so im done with it unfortunately since its a great game and i fully recommend it
  • I got the physical version for Christmas. You can really feel the extra weight from the manual when picking up the game case!

I've already beat the game but didn't know about downloading any additional content. Where do you do this at?

Here's how you do it http://yachtclubgames.com/sk-how-to-update/

It should be a little more straightforward, but I think their website spells it out pretty well. Apparently it's quite the big update, and basically shovel knight 2 which is cool. I will definitely be downloading the Plague of Shadows update once I finish up the main game.

  • Hmm, I definitely unlocked Plague of Shadows, but I don't recall going to the eShop to get an update. Updated carts?
  • Yeah, once I beat the game, Plague of Shadows unlocked and now I'm Plague Knight. I fought Shovel Knight the other night and he was a beast. I didn't die, but he was a challenge.

Yea my bad. I think the older versions that people downloaded last year need the eshop update, but all physical copies have the plague of shadows built in. I just beat the main game and unlocked plague of shadows immediately after beating it without going to the eshop. I have no idea how people beat this game in less than an hour and a half (which is one of the challenges). The record right now is 45 minutes which is nuts to me because it took me like 9 hours. Of course I took my time, got all the relics, and explored a lot, but still, 45 minutes is very impressive.
  • Got this game for christmas and am playing through it now and having a blast! Gotta remember to download the soundtrack, can't wait for the amiibo as well...
