I'm Done

I doubt anyone here cares, but I'm done.  I'd sell my whole collection if I could.  It'd be too much to part it out though.  Thank you to Dain for starting and running such a great site.

  • Sad to see you burn out, but congrats on a sweet accessory collection in the meantime. Thanks for spending time here, Jared!
  • Hey Jared,

Not sure about others, but I'm definitely bummed to hear that you're out. Hope all is well, good luck in the future and stop by to say hi every once in a while!
  • You were/are a great member, sorry to hear you leave
  • I might be interested in buying some of your stuff in addition to that Wario Woods CIB I got off you last week image

I too feel your pain as I feel burned out but realize summer is not the time to sell-off. I'm going to wait until later in the year and then I'll be clearing house too.

However, I wouldn't label myself as "done" as a collector, but rather a collector with new goals. It seems that everyone has the cookie cutter approach of "Gotta get em all!", but everyone has a different definition of "all" (Cart only, CIB, only licensed, all CIBs - SE and Myriad, etc.). Yet almost all of us have also entered this hobby due to nostalgia. I don't know about you guys, but having 700+ NES games has nothing to do with remembering my childhood...

So I realized I'd be much happier with 50 or so of my favorite NES CIBs, 50 from SNES, and maybe 30 or so from N64. I also "collect" (and I use the term loosely) DS, but every single DS game I buy is something of interest that I want to PLAY, not just sit on a shelf.

If you are really gone, then we're sad to lose another member. But if you are really just burnt out from being a completionist, then we still have plenty of room for you if you just want to scale back to games you'd like to play image
  • Sorry to see you leave Jared. Good luck with whatever comes next for you.
  • Jared, I hope all is well.. Will you still be visiting NA?
  • Another original member bites the dust. image
  • Best of luck to you Jared, be well.

  • Good luck in your future endevers Jared, you shall be missed! image
  • That sucks. If you read this What part of jersey are you in?
  • I'm confused, Jared -- did something happen to cause you to stop collecting? Hope all is well.

Ya, that's what I was thinking. I must be missing something - why would an ol' timer like yourself just up and quit?
  • Jared, I don't know why you would make such a comment when you've been around a long time and alot of us including me have had good dealings with you. I'm sure if you DO decide to piece stuff out you'd have alot of buyers here, especially with the awesome accessory collection you have built. Good luck to you!
  • Nice dealing with you a few times man. Sorry to see you leave.

    Good luck!

  • bye Jared image

    Maybe those are the reasons.

Anyway I have never dealt with you (I don't think), but I wish you the best

Nah, thats not why .   I just don't enjoy it anymore.  I have 3 packages here, for a couple weeks now, of new accessories, that I haven't even opened yet.  I think I'm just over it.  I went to the flea market last week and saw tons of peole with NES games, and I just didn't feel like stopping to look.  I realy can't explain it.

I don't plan to fall of the face of the earth, I'll definitly be stopping by.

By the way, thanks for all the kind words.  I know sometimes some of my posts come off as "abrasive" in the words of a fellow NAer, but most of the time my dry humour/sarcasm was lost over the internet.

  • Well,good luck man!!!
  • I am sure it happens to everyone, It is pretty tough to stay passionate about something for that long. You may want to keep your collection though in case you decide to get back to it in the future.

    Best of luck.
  • Ive had a little burn out latley myself thats why i sold off all my accessories and my non nintendo games. What has turned me off is all the rediclous prices people are paying these days. Eventhough I have just about all the rare games, it wouldnt bother me in the least to see the prices fall drastically. then it would get back to more of a serious collectors hobby than a profit turning one. best of luck on whatever you do
  • Sorry to see you go, but I'm glad that its on good terms, and nothing has p'd you off.

Eh, when you burn out, you burn out. Find something else that brings you joy... and sell me some stuff~
  • On a personal note, too, Jared...I've read your posts for years now, and I remember when you first joined NESForums way back when. You were a bit gruff, and we butted heads a couple of times. But since then you've really turned around your attitude and you've been a 100% great guy, a model member.
  • I have not been buying that much lately either. I haven't been in the mood. I guess it might be because my wife and I have a new daughter. She was born on 3/20/09.
  • Don't think I ever got a chance to get to know you but I am also sorry to see such a important member of the forum go. glad to hear that you won;t be dropping of the earth completely.
  • yeah same here man... over the past couple of months i have debated weather or not to sell everything, but i know i could never sell it as an entire complete collection because no one would have the money to buy everything and tere is no way i want to part it out at this point (maby in the future) so im just going to keep everything for now. but my time here on the site is deffinatly going to be limited. im just not into collecting anymore!
  • dam, its like noones into it anymore, i had to stop buying to pay for the nwc, in this time period of not buying i have been gettin bord, if i stop buyin i lose interest
  • It's sort of the nature of collecting. Sometimes it's driven through compulsion, sometimes it's driven by truly loving and connecting with what you're collecting. From my experience, people that fall in the former category tend to burn out. I'm not saying Jared falls in this category necessarily, but it happens all the time. The good news is that there are always new collectors coming to the site, but the obvious bad news is that it's never fun to see a long-time collector leave. Unfortunately, that's part of it too, and happens more than you'd realize.
  • sorry to hear your interest in NES is fading away! maybe, someday it will return! Take care man!
  • Sucks to see you go, but I definitely wouldn't be too quick to sell out. I get a little bored with the hobby now and again and move on to one of my other interests, but I'm always back at it after a month or two. With all of the great stuff you've amassed over the years it would be horrible to see you sell it and then realize you wanted it all back.
  • ^ Especially with the accessories because some of those could take several years to find again...
