ive always wondered that, if you were actually better than me at nintendo in general. ive come to the realization that yes, tetris ended up being a little "too" important compared to the others, but when i thought about it, early when highs were in the 500k range, they (the 3 games) were all much closer in importance. the 1st 2 really separated the OK players, from the good ones (which was 99% of the players). Just not the elite from each other. in other words, the NWC wasnt really designed for us, it was designed for them. i dont think they ever thought the scores would end up where they did (where you brought them).

Hey we did it together, old friend. I think that if the competition had lasted about 6 more weeks, we would have had 4-8 players steadily pumping out 3+ million scores with dependability, and you would have certainly been one of them, along with Falco, Ambler, and a few other familiar faces. I still believe that steadily producing 4+ million would be too much to ask, unless you started memorizing each Tetris pattern and a corresponding perfect or near-perfect placement routine. Which I don't believe would have been possible even with a significantly longer tour. When you're talking about hundreds of pieces to memorize the correct sequence for, it gets a little crazy.
i beg to differ. when roger banister broke the 4 minute mile mark, several people did it shortly after, only because they had seen it was possible. i ended up breaking 4 million on that thing a week after seeing nick weitlisbach doing it in person, and seeing where i needed to push harder. granted i only had my primitive "human" thumbs.

and as you know (blockles master), you dont need to memorize tetris patterns to be as fast as possible, you just need to not think, or get in to trouble.
Ah, I agree that many players would have topped 4 million (as you, Nick, and others have proven), it's just that I doubt that it would become the average score for even the best player in the timeframe of the 1990 NWC, even if it had been extended many weeks. To get a score in that range, there is a very slim margin of error.
Perhaps the elites might end up averaging like this :
i would definitely have 2 or 3 in the 500,000 range. i had a greed problem when building my walls
you should see my practice scores.... so many under 700k its embarrassing.
the thing is, once i got the game and perfected rad racer (my SMB was already flawless), i had the exact same tetris pattern every time (starting with 4 dark blues i think), so if that ever happened, then the whole thing would turn in to a race with nearly identical screens.
thor what are the chances of getting you to portland this september for the expo? i could arrange to have you carried in by 10 strong men on a silk feather bed, all of us bowing as they lowered you.

well, think about it. i think a group of NA guys are coming. Actually if you came, I'm pretty sure my name comes off the marquis real quick. We could do a surprise entrance thing, like when I'm playing the winner of the contest 1 on 1, you clear your throat behind us and ask to play too.

edited to make sense

Out of 10 games :
3 games in the high 2 million range
6 games in the 3 million range
1 game in the 4 million+ range
