Commodore 64 - The Hobbit Box Set

I am hoping someone here has some clue about this item.  I have been scouring the net for it and I cannot seem to find it.  It is a box set of The Hobbit - A Software Adventure for Commodore 64 with The Hobbit book packed in.  Pictures to follow:

  • Any back story from this guy?
  • This is pretty sweet, big Hobbit fan. No idea on value. I have a similar one, but it's The Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy.

I talked about it a bit over in my finds post.  I had a lady contact me on my facebook yardsale add about buying old video games.  She said she had a commodore 128 then later mentioned a Nintendo and some games.  What I ended up with was a Commodore 128 complete with Commodore 1571 disk drive, commodore 1902 color monitore, commodore 1350 mouse (in box), all the manuals, an old dot matrix printer of all things and a ton of commodore software.  The software was mostly accounting, word processing, v 1.2 of the GEOS operating system, etc but it also had a few games.  This Hobbit game, GBA Championship Basketball, Suspended, The Halley Project (a space simulator) all complete in box and in great condition.

The nintendo ended up being an old top loader action set with everything but the box (including the styrofoam and inserts which I sold to another NA member a couple weeks ago) and the games were the original version of Metroid, Deja Vu and Tetris complete in box and in good to near mint condition.

I have no room for the Commodore 128 setup so I was trying to sell it on Amazon and I was going to list the games.  I just can't find any information about the value of The Hobbit, aside from what Retroman mentioned about it being the second printing of the game.

Edit:  Just wanted to add when she told me where to come pick up I got a good laugh.  She lived one street over from me.

  • Just as an update I found an older listing of this box set, missing the book, that sold for $42.00 with $5 shipping. So I listed it on Ebay with a starting bid of $45.00 with free shipping. If anyone is interested you can find it here:

If someone from here buys it send me a message here after your payment and I will refund $5. Thanks all for your help in getting info about this.
  • Pretty cool item I've never even heard of! I wonder which lurker is going to win it.
  • Ended up going for 109.02. Hope the buyer is happy with it. It was an amazing item and I considered keeping it but I don't have any nostalgia for the Commodore.
