Where to get a gamecube action replay that lets you add codes?

Hi guys, I'm looking for an action replay for my gamecube, but I want the one that lets me add codes and other games onto it other than the ones that comes with it. Please help!

  • One love your avatar Two i will check my buddies shop but need more specifics
  • Didn't Action Replay come with its own memory card for storing codes?

Yes. Re-writing the code database was an injection vector for a chip-less softmod (Samson's AR Loader). I don't know if I gave Samson the idea but I suggested this in the Dextrose IRC channel and then *poof* it appeared!
  • All Action Replays let you add codes as far as I know. I had one back when they were new. It came with a disc and a memory card. The Memory card goes into slot 2 and is only used to store codes. Codes can be added, first you need an 'M' code (for master) then you add each code seperatly.

It can be sorta tedious as the controller is over sensitive. Most codes are only one or two lines...but some are quite long (such as the one to get Arwings to appear in Kokiri forest in OoT)

Hey thanks, any idea where I can get one like yours?

  • No, I've definitely seen different Action Replays over the years. There's the original that codes can be added to, it doesn't work on the DOL-101 Gamecube. Then there's the MAX, I've never used it. Lastly there are lite versions with some preset codes and no way to add more.

Concerning the original Action Replay, you don't need the original memory card. You can use any memory card, go into the AR options at the main menu and write the settings to that card.
  • Do they all work on the Wii (for GameCube games still)
  • Last I checked, no.
  • Well, does anyone have a recommendation? I'm thinking of buying this one:

I just want something that can unlock everything in mario kart and melee, as well as give me some cool extras like become giga bowser or master hand, etc.
  • they still work on the wii for gamecube games yes, I have one and used it when i was little. the problem with them though is they all tend to crack after a certain amount of use. they will still function but the inner white ring will crack. I think uncracked they are worth around $40-80 for the original ones. the one in the amazon link is newer so i am not familiar with it
  • Keep in mind that the GC Action Replay discs were all made either before the Wii or in the early days of the Wii. The Wii received frequent System Menu updates through its life, it doesn't take many updates for AR discs to become blocked in software.

This is the original GC Action Replay disc. It tends to only work on DOL-001 Gamecubes (with the component port). It's an awesome tool though, fully capable of custom codes and can store a lot of them. This is the best option if you can keep around a DOL-001 Gamecube.

I've never heard of any problems getting any AR to work on any version of the GameCube. In the USA they spoofed NHL Hitz, so I wonder if a copy of NHL Hitz will work on those systems?
  • Maybe it was older versions of the original Action Replay that didn't work on the DOL-101. I distinctly remember having problems finding a working Action Replay disc many years ago, only to discover that my copies only worked on the DOL-001, not the DOL-101.
