Prince of Persia....

I wasn't even aware they were making a movie till i stumbled across this. Looks like it has some potential.

    That's true,

I think Tomb Raider and Resident Evil were reasonable brainless popcorn entertainment (having Angelina Jolie and Milla probably didn't hurt either), but they were far from being great films.

I've said it before and I'll say it again :

You can make a great video game movie, but you need three things, at minimum :

    (1)- A good screenwriter.
    (2)- A great director.
    (3)- Decent casting.

It seems like with video game or toy-based movies, they always scrimp on the director and writing, which of course scares away the A-listers, which in turn leaves inevitably a mediocre to bad end product. Uwe Boll, anyone?

Someday this will change, and it may already be changing. Michael Bay is not a 'great' director, but he's above the standard of tripe like Boll, and has made some good action films in the past such as Con Air. The fact that he made Transformers a smash hit may bode well for future game-to-movie adaptations.

Imagine a Diablo film directed by Guillermo del Toro, or a Halo film by Joss Whedon, or maybe a Gears of War film by David Fincher.
  • "Diablo" done buy Guillermo del Toro would be insane!

A Gears of War movie by David Fincher??*drools* that would just be too good to be true, lol. But it would be nice. You know i think another well made game to movie transition(which is rare) was the first Mortal Kombat directed by Paul Anderson. It had everything you could ask from the game in a well made manner. The second movie was an abomination.

  • I agree that the first Mortal Kombat movie was surprisingly well done.
  • ^^ Not to be confused with Paul Thomas Anderson, however. This one, Paul W.S. Anderson is also the one doing Castlevania... and I believe, another Resident Evil.
  • ^^ Who might i add is a good director hisself image Boogie Nights was epic.
  • I personally like the Resident Evil movies.. Tomb Raider sucked bad though..

Not all Video game movies suck, but most do...
  • This looks like it might have some chops to it.  I'll have to see what the trailers look like though.  Worst casting in a game to movie translation?  I'm going with Jean Claude Van damme as Guile.
