Paypal Question.....

Ok, here's my dilemma.  I have an
unverified Paypal account thus far and have since i got my account years ago, so the funds i get through Paypal
are cool and help alot but it's usefullness doesn't stretch beyond the internet. I've tried applying for the card but don't qualify. I haven't linked it to my bank account only because it seems invasive, but If one is to link
their bank account to their Paypal and become verified, does that mean
whatever money they have in their Paypal account, can also be used on their
debit card or straight from their bank as well?

  • No. It will just let you send money straight from the bank account and transfer funds back to it. It doesn't do it automatically.

Oh ok cool, so it won't be there automatically but you can transfer  whatever your available Paypal funds are to your bank account if a Verified member, correct?

Yes, but the amount depends on whether you are a personal or business account.  I believe business accounts can transfer an unlimited amount of money from paypal to the bank account, but the limit on personal account is $500/month I think (going from memory, I could be wrong).
  • Hmm, not sure if I ever tried to transfer more than $500 to my bank account in a month, although I would have figured I had by now. I don't have a personal or business account, I have a premier. What are the restrictions for that?
  • The main reason to do it is if you are looking to sell quite a bit, or purchase more expensive items.  Some sellers only sell to those that have a verified account.  I've had a verified account for years and haven't had any issues with it.

When you were talking about applying for the card, if you meant the credit card then you can also apply for a debit card which has a visa logo on it and can be used just like your regular bank visa giving you instant access to the funds.
  • Mark, there are no transfer restrictions on "Premier" accounts. They are basically the everyman version of the "Business" account.

Oh, so if some sellers only sell to those with verified accounts, does that mean if they sold an item to someone without a verified account, they would not be able to transfer those funds to their bank?

Sorry for all the questions guys, just want to make sure i do this right. image

  • No, it means that eBay automatically will prevent unverified buyers to pay with an unverified account.
  • Yeah it's one way people use to see if the buyer/seller is a potential scammer.  I'm not saying that all those with unverified accounts are scammers, but it's easier for a scammer to cut the paper trail because the bank account has to have an actual address for an actual person.
  • If you are not sure about setting it up with your personal bank account see if you can get a free checking account at another bank and use that one
