VGA grading a game with a factory error

I recently came accross a Mega Man Legacy Collection for 3ds with a factory error. It was my copy I was picking up to play but I decided to leave it sealed for now and was playing with the idea of having it graded by VGA. I was just wondering if this would recieve a certain type of grade for having an error or just a normal grade based on it's condition like any other game. I'm not a person to get stuff graded by VGA. I have never done it before. I figured if I am going to leave it sealed and preserved and sit on it for a while in hopes of maybe it being saught after in a few years by a niche collector, id splurge and get the nice casing from VGA. Any input from someone with knowledge on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

  • I imagine if you send them an email they will probably tell you. If the error is very minor and doesn't stand out, it may just be graded normally. If you want it graded, just send it in and put a note in the box that it has a factory error.
  • Should have mentioned its pretty noticeable. The included gold megaman amiibo was packed in upside down.

So what? This is a very frequent thing with Amiibos, caused by unprecise packaging systems. There's really nothing rare, special or weird about them.

Sorry, but people with this VGA bullcrap mentality kinda piss me off. Just open the goddamn game and figure and enjoy it, stop seeing dollar signs everyfreakingwhere.

    /Rant off.
  • lol. I didn't make this thread without expecting some flack. Again, I have never VGA graded an item in my life. I never saw the point at all. I also know that some people collect errors like this. If you can point me to another one of these with the amiibo upside down I'd really appreciate it because I have been searching for days and cannot find one. I know it's common with amiibo's. As for this particular game, I see it nowhere though. I am not saying this is some super rare item, just different and unique in the sense I haven't seen one like this posted yet. Is it really that crazy to hold onto something uncommon with the idea that in a few years, it might interest a niche error or misprint collector?

EDIT: I am also not so much after a grade, just the acrylic casing to preserve it for a few years.

Where did he once say he was looking at future profit? Maybe he just finds the oddity cool and would like to add some protection to the packaging or maybe he just enjoys how graded items look? Not everyone is in this hobby for money and some people like myself just enjoy how the VGA case looks.

I am going to do this in the meantime. thanks

  • You want to spend a lot of money to encase a poorly packaged Amiibo? Go right ahead.

If that is all you are after you should just order a custom case .  They are a lot cheaper then getting it graded.

He adds nothing to anyones thread. Only negativity! What an ass-et to the community!
  • Sorry, I just wanted to get this thought out there.

Why do a few people shed hate on every thread that mentions VGA, no matter what it's about? Some of us (myself included) treat games as both functional and collectible. We encase games in a tomb to preserve them in their current state so we can have them in that condition for years to come. For me, they're jewels to be displayed within my collection. Do these same people question why people get coins graded? Or trading cards? Toys? These all have intended functions (other than sports cards, arguably). Should the coins be spent if they're still accepted? Should the toys be given to a child to tear apart?

    Done with rant.

OP, to make this post somewhat relevant, I agree that an email is the best way to go. Even if you just want the case and no grade, looks like something that would need a custom measurement.
  • To answer OP, the factory error would certainly not affect the grade itself, they only judge the condition. They would probably mention the factory error in question on the label, but it wouldn't count as a factor for the grade.
  • Haha, I get a kick out of some of the jaded members here for the most part. Although, there was that one guy a while back who was just nasty about everything he posted and was eventually banned. I was glad to see him go.

I wouldn't mind them as much if there wasn't clear evidence that it's just a complete sham. When there are videos, and even thread here, where someone gets and item slabbed, and it comes back damaged, then its clear they aren't really much of an "authority." I'm fine if people want to protect something they bought in a nice hard case, but the claim of it increasing the price magically is just absurd, and most people probably pay the con artists for an expected increase in value. I've still never heard a proper explanation of why any of their "grades" constitute a price increase for any game.

Alright, you want to hate it so you have arguments to hate it, bla bla bla. Just don't take a dump in others thread when it is not appropriate, that's really just what the forum ask for. Cause anyway your complaints are really superficial and anybody that use VGA for their own justified reasons won't ever care about them.

Here ya go, good sir! You have to send them the size/dimensions though:

I can't remember if I got mine from these guys, but I had a Nintendo refirb sealed game in an acrylic case that fell 8 feet once. The case cracked a bit, but the game was unscathed. In my experience, getting a custom case made is totally worth it, even though it was like 30 bucks for a DVD size (Still saved a bit getting it straight from getting it from the site rather than their Ebay store).

thank you all for the productive responses.

BouncekDeLemos thanks for that link. Very helpful. im going to use it for other stuff too. Maybe my CIB NES, SNES and 64. That was exactly what I was looking for and could care less about a VGA grade. Thanks again!

No probs! Again, I don't think I've got mine from these guys, but basically they're all the same. They usually have a latch on the botton of the case that'll allow the game/item to easily be removed as well. They might be a little pricey, but still cheaper than VGA.

Tell them you need NES, and SNES and 64 sizes, I'm sure they already have the sizes already for those. For anything else, you might have to measure.
