M3DS Real

Hey all, I tried to boot up my M3DS Real this evening, but neither my DS Lite or my 3DS seems to recognize the cart.  The systems act as though there were no cart inserted.

I loaded the memory card onto my computer and the folders looked fine, both as they were in 2009: SYSTEM and NDS.  I went to m3adapter.net and downloaded new SYSTEM files and loaded them onto the memory card, but no change in results.

Thoughts?

  • It might be because the DS and M3DS connectors aren't touching enough. Maybe you can fix this by adding a small piece of paper/cardboard in the slot to force the contact.

Didn't do paper, but after reading your comment I just used my finger to push the cart "forward" to make sure connectors were touching and it at least loaded. Thanks!

EDIT: Well, I've toyed around a bit more and found a newer firmware for it (M3 Sakura) and I'm now able to get it all working.  Hmm, odd that it would stop working between when it used to be on here to the present, but all is well.

I'm not familiar with the device you're talking about, but just reading through everything, it sounds like it's possible that a firmware update for your DS and 3DS rendered them incompatible with the cart.  Updating the M3DS to its newest firmware and it "coming back to life," so to speak, sounds to me like the manufacturers had to get around a couple of roadblocks that Nintendo threw into their path to prevent compatibility.  Hope this helps put your mind at ease regarding this puzzle.

  • The M3 Real has an internal charging battery that saves the current firmware image. If you let the M3 Real sit without use for a very long time, it will simply forget the firmware and require a reflash using the small cable that's included. That is why the cart was unrecognized.
  • i get tired of explaining how to clean these things so ill just show you with a picture.

if it still doesnt work clean your system contacts and micro sd contacts.
  • ^Uh, seriously. I have two M3DS Reals to prove it. Those internal batteries only charge with frequent use in a DS or plugged into a computer. If the battery dies, firmware go bye-bye. Now I'm not against a good ol' isopropyl cleanin', but re-writing the firmware will bring these back from the dead every time.

I believe the most current firmware makes the cart be recognized as Alex Rider: Stormbreaker. Let the battery die from non-use and it shows up exactly as the OP described, as an unrecognized cart.

Yes, seriously.  it works for me every time. of course the flashcard above is a dstwo. Well the battey save is a bad design  i wonder why they didnt use flash memory to save the firmware.  i would just get a diffrent card.

Agreed, the M3DS Real is an R4 clone and it's not a particularly good one. Sakura's nice, but there's a lot of nice R4 firmware updates that won't run on the M3Real for some reason.
  • Ah, nice. Thanks for all the additional replies guys. Once I got it working I put the cart up for auction in NA Actions. I'll have to make sure to play it a bit between now and when I ship the item out to make sure it works upon arrival, though it wouldn't lose the firmware that quickly would it?
  • no problem ^

a clone card...  those imo suck.  no wonder it has bad design flaws lol.  i had a clone card of an acekard 2i  that blew out my microphone on 2 diffrent ds consoles.
