I use Framemeister for upscaling which is good but a bit expensive.. But I think most would agree it makes very little sense to scale up composite image as the quality is just garbage. Which console are we talking about? For most consoles there are ways to get much much superior RGB out these days.
What ^ said. When the Xbox One was released many people were looking for adapters to go from HDMI to Composite. The issue people forget is that HDMI is a digital signal and doesn't easily convert either way. If it isn't expensive then chances are it's not worth anything.
For what console? Get an RGB setup and then you can get a converter to HDMI and it will look glorious. Or get a Retron 5. Anything else will look like complete garbage.
I personally think a Framemeister is a better answer than changing the TV. It just isn't cheap. We have to accept that the consoles are not designed for modern TVs and it's only going to get worse. It would be like driving a coal powered steam car and getting upset because the corner gas station can't handle it. These are choices that we've made so we need to maximize our benefit.
Not too long I'm sure. 4k TVs have lag not matter what so the usual answer is to delay the audio to compensate. That doesn't always work and I have no idea how it would affect gaming.
4k just has so many pixels to keep up with that the TVs have a hard time keeping up. I think using HDMI for movies and streaming content is fairly good because it tries to keep things in sync but classic games are going to be a tough sell.
Older low res TVs can still be had in good working condition. What is with this obsession with only the latest and greatest? These days the improvement just isn't worth it. 4k resolution is absolute overkill. If you like old consoles, you really should use a compatible TV.

Get a better TV.
Better yet, get one of these, I'm in love with mine.
