N64 horizontal colored lines

Picked up a N64 today that is having some video issues

I have tried different cables, tv's, expansion paks ect but nothing changes.

Has anyone seen this issue before?

EDIT

Different clean games that work on another system used

Also have opened up the system and cleaned / checked the pins

Basic RCA N64 Cables

The lines flicker

  • Oh that is weird, are you using standard composite? when is the last time its been powered on (you may not know that if you just picked it up...)

My guess, try cleaning the console and cartridges...

Do the lines flicker and move or stay in the same place?
  • I've seen something similar. Picked up a very dirty N64 from a garage sale that had ashes and what I think was dried, sticky soda residue. It worked but and cleaned up good but I eventually had to take it apart and give the inside a good clean as well as the pins to get the picture to be right.
  • Should have added that I have tried different games that have been cleaned

  • This may sound weird but it might be the power supply that's faulty. Maybe try finding a new one and see if that fixes it?

I have seen some pretty drastic things happen just from a faulty power adapter, especially when it starts giving less voltage. My NES looked like it was dieing, super mario was not even the same color.

If anything, it will be the power supply or capacitors.
  • I have another system that uses the same hook ups and there is no issue.

I could try and pick up another power supply to rule that out

Curious to see if that will fix it. Good luck!

  • What about the actual connection from the board to the cable itself? Does the picture change at all if you were to wiggle the back of it while it is connected into the console?
  • Update

I have tried different power cables with no change

Also tried Wiggling the av cable with no change
