  • I use clear Memorex cases from Walmart or Target. The ones that come in packs of 10 and they haven't seemed to be flimsy at all and the quality seemed good to me. Are these the cases you were using?
  • I just go to the flea market markets and by any random sealed CD for cheap and use it's case.
  • I have been working on a PS1 set for sometime and have been replacing jewel cases for years. Let me answer your question please!!

I use MicroCenter for 50 packs of jewel cases for $15.00. They are identical to PS1 jewels 'cept for the clear plastic tray, which in this case, it's black. It then covers up the artwork. So what I do is either a) save the clear tray and re-use it since they tend to not get dirty/cracked/damaged like the outer shell does; b) order bulk online (I have the link somewhere, but they're real cheap!); or c) buy cheapo CD's with mint clear trays, then swap them out (black for clear).

Regarding the oversize jewel cases for PS1, there's about 50-100 games using those. MicroCenter sells those, like 10-15 of them for $10, approx. The difference there is not just the black trays, but also PS1 games often have 1 disc in a large jewel case --- the front and/or back tray will be a special PS1 tray with the "PS1" imprinted where the disc would normally fit. (Example: Alundra) Or, the black frame piece is special to PS1 games for oversized manuals to fit where a disc normally would. In these cases, I always save the unique piece for re-use and combine it with a new jewel case.

Let's face it, the main problem with PS1 cases (and Dreamcast) is the outside shell that gets scratched, stickered, cracked, etc. That part is generic and easily replaceable.

FYI: Don't buy anything like this at Staples or Office Max as they have jewel cases, like 10 of them for 25 bucks. Total deal, right?

My latest foray was at a thrift store 3 weeks ago. I bought 2 bin crates full of CD's for 50 bucks. It came out to over 400 music CD's. They were all mint and many new. I have been swapping out the clear trays they have for the black ones still in my PS1 library. I have over 1100 PS1 games, and intend to bring every single one back to the clear tray (as they were originally made to be so you can see the artwork beneath the disc tray!)
  • I use these. $22 for 100 cases and everything is clear. There is an option for unassembled for $2 more. I've also ordered a lot of DVD cases from them. I use their blue DVD cases for my Sega CD games and white for my Saturn games and they look awesome. Quality is very good. The only poor quality cases I've experienced with them are their black DVD cases. If you order those, make sure you order "premium."

Brand new and shiny jewel cases really make PS1 games look good.

yes. they used to be good. but now there using cheaper plastic.  the case looks warped its missing the compact disc logo in the corners  and the plastic feels really cheap and poorly molded imo.
