Gamecube game worked, but now it doesn't

So this week I had been playing Rogue Leader in my Gamecube just fine...had played it about an hour at a time several days in a row. Today I go to play it, and the Gamecube says there is no disk in the system. I checked the disk and it is clean, no scratches/smudges/fingerprints/etc. I put in a few other games to see if they work, and the 3 others I tried worked just fine. I put Rogue Leader in again, and nothing. I just thought it was odd that it worked earlier this week, and now it doesn't. Just checking to see if something like this has happened to other people and if they found any fixes for it. I realize Rogue Leader isn't expensive or anything, but still...only thing I haven't been able to do yet is try the disk in another system.

Comments

  • The wonders of disc games truly an advance generation of gaming. Sorry to hear that it sounds like the disc corrupted.
  • I was kinda thinking that...just thought I would check in a last ditch effort.
  • It might be the laser lens is dirty.
  • Pop in another Star Wars game. If that fails to play, then I think your Gamcube is a Star Trek fan. If this is the case, then toss the Gamecube.
  • Any disc rot if you hold it up to the light and see if it shines through?
  • Either lens is dirty or dying or something wrong with the disc. Question, do you have a soft modded Wii? There is a way to test the entire disc integrity.

Rare variant. It would be a keeper!
  • Yeah, you can see through the disk, I checked my other games and one other is the same (and it also will not read) and it is Rebel Strike....is there anything that can be done to help prevent disk rot? These were in storage for about 3 years, so I am sure that didn't help even with them being in cases.
  • what is a hamburgerbox referencing ?

You mean when you put it in direct light you see tiny holes? I have some discs that have tiny dots and still work completely but thats because of the top label on the disc. I highly recommend that you dump the game entirely using a Wii just to make sure which factor is the culprit.
