The reviews for the game were pretty bad, and it looks like a bargain bin game IMO. Everyone who wanted one probably already has it (and most kept it sealed,) and NIS just made too many for a market that usually only buys quality first party Nintendo games. It's possible it'll end up being hard to come by down the line but it's not shocking to see it take the dip in price.
I kinda disagree Rodea being a bargain bin game (at least the Wii version). The Wii U and 3DS versions are bad ports and I would see them get cheap down the line.
You're clearly more than welcome to your opinion but imo the combination of horribly cheap looking production values, questionable in game art direction, (the packaging of the game is nice especially the limited edition though,) the janky gameplay I've watched on YouTube, and all of the bad reviews for this game tell me it's bargain bin action. Not Hello Kitty Kruisers bad but let's say "B" level game bargain bin bad. I'm not saying people can't like it.
EDIT:At $20 & $10 for the Wii U and 3DS ports it's tempting from a collector's POV but it's not enough for me to snag them I don't think. Not with Star Fox coming out this week!
Be careful with discussing the gameplay of games you've only watched on Youtube. Actually playing the game is a different story. I've played through the whole game beginning to end on Dolphin. It's a lightgun platformer which, to the best of my knowledge, had never been done before. The pointer control scheme really makes it and the Wii U and 3DS versions are hot garbage without it. In addition, all of the bad reviews are for the Wii U and 3DS versions, not the Wii version. Once you actually get into it, it's some really frantic action that's pretty difficult to put down.
The Wii version was directed by Yuji Naka and made by his people from Prope, completed in 2010 but put on the backburner because Kadokawa, the publisher, didn't believe a new Wii game was commercially viable in 2010. The DNA of games like NiGHTS and Sonic Adventure is really noticable, even if they brought over the good with the bad like disorienting camera controls that take a lot of getting used to. I would say it's like a hybrid, like a Sonic Adventure where you almost never touch the ground and are constantly zipping from point to point. The Wii U and 3DS versions were butchered more or less remade from scratch by Kadokawa as a much slower, less arcade-like game without Naka and Prope's involvement. It went as far as Naka telling people on his Twitter at launch "Please play the Wii version instead". What's really embarrassing is that somehow the Wii U version is a port of the 3DS version and ends up having far worse colors and far more low-res textures than the Wii version which was meant for release 5 years prior. And if you can't enjoy a game with cheap-ass production values, what are you even playing games for? Some of the best games were made on a shoestring budget.
If Rodea came out for the Wii back in 2010 it would have fared much much better critically (reviewers didn't even review the Wii version so scores are skewed) and we'd be talking about it as a cult classic among the likes of Zack & Wiki and Dokapon Kingdom, I guarantee it. Also, as a sidenote, it's ridiculous how much the Wii game blows the Wii U game out of the water when played with Dolphin in a native 1080p resolution. Kaleidoscopic would be putting it lightly.
Thanks for the warning but I've played enough games in my life to know a stinker when I see one. The gameplay vids look painful, the reviews are bad, and the art style stinks. If you like the game that's great, I can choose not to purchase it because it doesn't look good to me. I also don't think Nights OR Sonic Adventure are good games, and I've played those. I didn't like them back in the day and they've only aged poorly. I'm not interested in battling with a garbage camera from 2009....which shouldn't even have been a problem then.
At no point did I say I don't play ANY games that have cheap looking production values, I said that the combination of this game'sart style/direction stinks, the reviews are bad, and the let's plays (from sites I trust to help make my purchasing decisions) of this look terrible. Not everyone is going to like every game you do. You seem to need to understand this.
If Rodea came out in 2010 these are the Wii Games it would have had to contend with:
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Metroid: Other M
Sin & Punishment
Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars
Endless Ocean: Blue World
Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon
Monster Hunter Tri.
No More Heroes 2
Cave Story
Red Steel 2
Epic Mickey
....a lot more
...I think it would have fared the same. Bad controls, bad camera, bad art will always be bad.
Clearly I have no beef with anyone iking this game, I'm sure there are plenty of games I like that others don't, I don't need a lecture about my opinion, thanks.
Hopefully a lot of people that have never played the Wii version think like Kamikawa does here and we really might end up with a true hidden gem that everybody missed and assumed was garbage ^_^
It's quite fortunate the Wii U and 3DS versions have attached a negative stigma to this. If people by-and-large are thinking with assumptions like this, they won't go after this game until it's wayyyy too late to get it.

If you guys think it's a hidden gem thats great, buy multiple copies since it's so cheap. I'm not sure why me not wanting to buy this game gets peoples undies in a bundle. Everybody must just buy every game out there because none of them must be bad.
My original post in this thread was an answer to a guy who asked about the price drop and if this game "sucked," I just said the reviews were bad and the art style looked bad IMO and peeps get up in arms.

Who's upset? Did I miss something?
I'm not upset, I never even played the game before.
I feel as if I've struck a nerve here. No offense was intended, I merely feel as if judging a game without playing it is kinda presumptuous and I was giving the opinion of someone who has played it from beginning to end because people said they wanted that kind of opinion in this thread. Also, I didn't buy it. This may sound like kind of a douchey opinion but I own so many games already I don't feel much of an obligation to buy many more. So maybe my lack of having paid for it contributed to my low low expectations, but I'd go as far to say it was my favorite game of 2015. I didn't play many games that came out in 2015 either so take me saying that with a heaping spoonful of salt. After playing MGSV which was a colossal letdown to me, it felt like a breath of fresh air to play something truly unique. I had never seen someone try to mix a lightgun game and a 3D platformer before. The Wii U and 3DS versions are not only completely different games, they don't even really occupy the same genre. The camera largely works fine and I had very little trouble orienting myself with a couple exceptions. The sense of speed is what can make it disorienting, not necessarily the control itself, but once you figure it out, it works. There's stuff like lock-on and being able to control your aerial speed and everything that really helps. With such a unique premise, I feel it obvious that there would be kinks to work out like that. The artstyle felt fine to me and if you turn on the Japanese voices the whole atmosphere is very evocative of games like Mega Man Legends. In addition, saying the reviews are bad doesn't really cut it because reviewers didn't review the Wii game, it was largely treated as a footnote, a disposable bonus disc. Maybe the LPs were different but I've never been much of an LP person. Also, this is just nitpicking but Other M and Epic Mickey weren't so hot, Cave Story is a port that everybody played years ago (I played it in 2008 on my PSP), and Endless Ocean/Fragile Dreams largely slipped by unnoticed. I feel as if it would've done well enough, not lighting the charts on fire or anything but it would've had its fans, I remember being a Wii owner in 2010 and it didn't really feel as if there was much to get excited about aside from SMG2 which was probably the last game I actually played on it. If you want to give it a shot, it's not like "acquiring" backups for use on the Wii is difficult. And again, another nitpick, Sonic Adventure has largely aged like milk but NiGHTS is and will always be bitchin'.
That seems like a good deal actually, do you know if they are launch editions with the soundtrack or if they are reprints? I'd buy 2 3DS ones to get the free shipping if I knew they were Launch versions. Steep price drop worries me of a reprint though.
Edit: Ah what the heck, in for two, we'll see what I get.
I stand corrected! I went to a local TRU today that said they had both games. Turns out they didn't have the Wii U version so I will try a different TRU this week. But the 3DS version I did get and it is for the version with soundtrack in a cardboard sleeve case. I believe this may be "base version" and only other version is the LE from NIS America. I thought there was a basic game only version, but I am seeing no proof of that.
Edit: FWIW, I also found a hot deal in the store, why, I have no idea, but they had Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo Selects version) for $9.99. It just got released last month for $19.99, so I am not sure why they did this. I assume it's storewide, and if so, it's another hell of a deal.
These weren't my listings, and I did not buy them (the were snapped up VERY quickly- gone by the time I saw the alerts for them!), but some seller out in California just sold two regular complete copies for BINs of $79 and $89. The might've gone higher had they been auctions. Anyways, these are just posted here for historical reference purposes:
I do actually have plans to list one of the bundle copies at auction further down the road, just to see where it goes. Somebody beat me too it, though- a seller who might not know what they have, from the looks of it:
Going to be interesting to see what the sealed bundle goes for on ebay - right now at a solid $65 with 8 different bidders so far (and more than 7 days left...)

I've been keeping an eye on this one as well. Should be entertaining.
Is the internal game in that bundle sealed in plastic?
Hard to tell from the photo - if its legitimately unopened, the game should be sealed as well. My bundle has a sealed game inside.
Strange way to list the game with "Accessory Microphone with" first - why have I seen this game listed like that a couple times. Is that ebay's standard title for the game?

It appears that's the universal default title, Amazon's the same way for whatever reason:
The "Accessory Microphone..." title is one way to search for copies that would otherwise slip under the radar, for those who are still looking. One of the bundled copies I got was just like this, and it didn't even specify "Wii". Low print, recalled game with overly generic listings? Yeah, this'll be a real fun one for the collectors down the road...
Snagged a copy for just under $25 a few hours ago, I'll wait until it's in my hands before I get excited though, because crap happens. This game may prove to be some fairly decent trade fodder.
Oh my gosh, well I guess I shouldn't be all that surprised. I'm even more interested now to see what the winning bid ends up being. It also looks like someone just spammed that bid button a couple days ago.

Yeah there was a bit of weirdness there with that one bidder, but still seems to have picked up legit bidders nevertheless. Pretty high price point right now with all this time still left...
Good news for anyone who is still looking for this game. A few weeks back I found a website that carries multiple sealed copies of both the Microphone bundle and the stand alone game. Microphone copies go for $49 while stand alone are $39. Now I could keep this information to myself, watch the value of this game go up and up. I also could have bought 30 copies and atwood them in my garage for 20 years and perhaps made bank, but I didn't do that... I'd rather help the community out and share the information. So don't be a dick and hoard, buy an extra copy if you want, but not 30. Help each other out. Plus who knows, this seller could have a warehouse full of these.
There is a catch (isn't there always). These come from Mexico.
Apparently Mexico never got the memo about these being recalled or if they did they don't give a crap. This seller has 30+ copies of each. I'll leave it up to anyone interested to figure out how to get it to your door. Maybe you know someone in Mexico that can hook you up or perhaps if you message the seller he/she will send you a copy.
I wanted to wait until my copies were in hand. That way I could confirm these are in-fact the standard NTSC copies. They are and here are the two copies I received in the mail yesterday:

Yeah there was a bit of weirdness there with that one bidder, but still seems to have picked up legit bidders nevertheless. Pretty high price point right now with all this time still left...

@nintendotwizer is that price in pesos or dollars? Need to know because my friend that wants one would flip out at that price
