Which ones?

Some that come to mind are:

Battletoads and Double Dragon

Super Mario Bros and Ninja Gaiden Series

    James Bond Jr.
  • Is this talking about 1 for 1 titles that appeared on each system, or series in general?

If series in general, I'm much, much more fond of Mega Man on NES than SNES.
  • I don't know if this counts, but I prefer NES "Contra" over "Contra III" because it's easier.
  • He means identical games (not visually of course) that appeared on both consoles.

Contra vs Contra III wouldn't be applicable as it is not in context of the question for example.
  • Then "Ninja Gaiden" is definitely superior on the NES compared to the botched versions on "Ninja Gaiden Trilogy." That cart is super expensive now too, so it's just a collector's item.

I have never even played NG Trilogy oddly enough.

  • Monopoly.

I recall renting "Trilogy" when it came out. I doubt that I got very far into it.

I'm mostly aware of the differences from reading and seeing videos about it on the internet. Among other crappy differences, act 3-1 in "Ninja Gaiden 2" doesn't even go dark. They made it into normal stage.

On the other hand, the version of "Ninja Gaiden 3" on the SNES is easier, so that might be a positive change for anyone who is having difficulty with it. But you might as well just play the Famicom version.

  • Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA), Super Mario Bros. 3.

I know the save feature is a big sell on the SNES versions, but I swear the control is tighter and more responsive on the NES.

Battletoads & Double Dragon is another one.
  • Monopoly for NES is the best version vs all other remakes on other consoles. Fast, easy, to the point, hard computer ai and awesome sound effects /voice over.
  • This thread would be great for a series of polls!

List each of the 1-to-1 NES/SNES games and let people vote it out in the same style as the March Madness thread!
  • Mario is Missing anybody?
  • I prefer Chessmaster on the NES. The SNES version doesn't seem any stronger, and the sound and interface are clunkier.
  • Obviously Ninja Gaiden!
  • Im pretty sure james bond jr on snes and nes are 2 completely different games and not ports. Either way, the snes version is a pile of shit.
  • Uncharted Waters, the SNES version is just like the NES version but with slightly better graphics which irritates me, makes me think I'm playing a subpar SNES game.
  • My hate for the snes version of Ninja Gaiden is overwhelming
  • Ren and Stimpy: Buckaroos
  • Almost all of them that I've played.. Warios Woods, SMB1-3, Ninja Gaiden come to mind immediately. SMB All Stars is pretty terrible in my opinion. Horrible sound design and inaccurate SMB1 physics.
  • I like Super Mario Allstars, but still prefer the originals, especially the sound ist much better on the nes.

Micro Machines is also a titel where I like the nes version more, the same with the Great Waldo Search. Both look very cheesy on the SNES compared to the much more pleasing nes version.
  • If punch out counts, then that.
  • 1. Battletoads and Double Dragon

    2. TMNT Tournament Fighters (i cannot stand SNES version)

    3. Jurassic Park
  • Dr. Mario, Super Mario 1,2,2j,3, and Battletoads and Double Dragon.

By the way -- I haven't played Ninja Gaiden Trilogy since it was released, but I remember it being basically like the NES version but with less flicker and the sound effects didn't seem to mute some of the music channels.

Is the play control really THAT bad? Or is it a good way to experience Ninja Gaiden III if you don't have it on NES?
  • Super Mario All Stars and Battletoads/Double Dragon are TERRIBLE on SNES.

From what others have said, it seems Ninja Gaiden went the same way.
  • You guys already covered them, but let me add: Battletoads/Double Dragon (NES)
  • I might be in the minority on this one, but I prefer Smash TV on the NES over the SNES version. The action in the NES one doesn't feel as hectic and I love how you can use two controllers to move your character and shoot. It feels way more natural that way as opposed to the SNES version mapping everything onto one controller.

Now that's very interesting to me! Nothing wrong with the NES version, I just never thought I'd see someone actually choose it over the SNES version.
