    Wrong forum, buddy!

Seriously though, I collect to have. I only have around 160 NES games at this point, but already I feel like it would be too much of a hassle to try and sell all that. If I ever did need to sell out, I'd probably just take 'em down to the local Play 'n Trade for pennies compared to what I paid for them.

I do enjoy telling friends "See that game? That's worth X dollars!" though. And also subjecting them to the crap games. Making people play Action 52 or Bible Adventures is always a good time.

I have been around collecting longer then the majority of you so please dont even entertain me with your self-centered posts if you have only 1 or 2 years experience, which im assuming you do because you fail to know that Sqoon was selling for $250 at a point.

Actually if you were talking to me I saved up my money for almost a year to buy the original NES Deluxe set when it first came out and have been with it ever since!

Obviously you haven't been around here long enough. If Erik (Braveheart) makes a statement that he will pay XXX $ for YYY Game in ZZZ condition it is a fact

I knew I would use that algebra from hs/college some day image

  • 1. I'm very happy with my collection and some of the rare items I've been able to aquire. Its a small collection compared to most, however I tend to focus more on quality over quantity in buying only rare games, memorabilia, and games I enjoy playing. I do not intend to achieve a full set, but rather focus on a few select items and specific areas to collect.

    2. I never plan to sell out as I enjoy every item in my collection. I collect because I enjoy the games, the thrill of finding rare items, and the artwork. Yes if I were faced with a financial crisis I would be forced to part with a few items, but I could never see myself selling everything.

  • 1- How do you feel about your collection?

Good have almost nothing $$$ into it, value means nothing to me. I would be more than happy to pay nothing for games

2- Have you thought about selling it or do you plan to soon?

Only as a worst case scenario. If I needed cash for bills, car repairs, or something else I couldn't pay yes I would sell out, but I am fairly confident I am all set

  • I feel pretty good about my collection, whether or not I've sunk a whole federal stimulus package into it image . I enjoy knowing I can get any of the games I wanted when I was younger, and most of them at agreeable prices. The collect-'em-all part of it? That came when I saw Rhino (at the time, just taken over by Game$top, in March of '07) start selling out of their old games for a fraction of what they had 'em priced at. I'd had Faria at one point, but returned it where I got it. That was one of the 100+ games (20-25 of which were NES) I picked up, with the intention of reselling for profit. Not long after that, I found a copy of Super Dodge Ball at the flea market, at one of my usual choices of sellers, for a paltry $5. The next week, I figured I had a good enough start, some 40 games before buying the stash from Rhino, those 40 including Dragon Warrior 3 and 4 and a few other scarcer titles...I might as well collect the whole set. By June, about 3 1/2 months removed from having only 40 games, I was up over 300, and hardly had a month's pay actually put into it (overall, including the original 40...keep in mind, I probably make the absolute least out of every employed person here, barely even $1000 a month back then).

Yes, there are times when I wonder exactly what kind of financial resources I'd have available if I ever did sell out my entire collection. But to me, my goal that I set, on March 24, 2007, was to collect every American-released NES game ever made, CIB, even Stadium Events and Myriad, which most write off for being too rare and expensive. NWC's were, and still are, icing on the cake, as are variants (believe it or not)...if I get them at some point, fine; if not, that's fine, too. To me, if I were to sell out, it would equate to a failure, and would go onto a list of failures I've made over the years. I'm playing to win here...I'm trying to prove myself as a success (to myself, if to no one else). So far, the only things I seem to have succeeded at were completing my high school education (not even college...2 years, and then a financial drop-out) and finding myself a woman with whom I wouldn't mind settling down and starting a family. Big successes they are, yes, and they'll certainly be among the biggest successes I ever make. But those successes I kinda grew up expecting to happen...granted, I still put forth the effort in getting there. I still have to wonder, though...what does it feel like when you knock that last game off the list, that last box, manual, styrofoam block...? It won't be my biggest success, but it would prove, in my eyes, that I am a success at doing something unexpected of me...something I can look at some years down the road and say, "Hey, I did it, and I had fun doing it," and not be talking about my fiancee (who would probably by then be my wife) image . To put it succinctly, it'd take a real disaster for me to fold at this point in the game...I've a straight flush, and there are still cards to be dealt.

Do note, however, that I have sold bits and pieces of my previous collection...namely, most of my SNES, PS1, and PS2 RPGs, mainly to help fund the NES set. At the same time, however, I've been mulling over rebuilding that old collection, as well (I'd been working on that since '02, and much of it was sold in '07 and '08...though I'd had some of the pieces since 1994, and still have a couple of those pieces).

    Edit:  Geez...that was a long post o_O .

Pshhtt !! Look at OSG the newbie!! He didn't even know he was supposed to be leveling up. R.O.B. would be SO disappointed.
  • Shit do I have to talk to the King or something to get my levels? I've just been using buffs to eke past the harder aspects of collecting.

I don't know if you are intentionally trolling or if you really are just ignorant to reality? Either way, I'll play.

    1. The people on this site who say they will pay XXXX for XXXX have money to back up their statements.  We've seen people put bountys on M82s, NWCs, etc and follow through and buy them.  It's easy for 0 feedback guys to talk out of their asses, but people here with a lot of feedback mean what they say.  If you are as serious about NES collecting as you pretend to be, you'll learn this with due time when you can match usernames to their collections.

    2. Isn't this the pot calling the kettle black?  Here's a heads-up for you, while a 1-year collector might not be able to talk to historical prices like a 7-year veteran would, the new collector probably knows the current market better.  Why?  Because they have done all of their buying and selling in the current market so they know what most of the stuff sells for, minus ultra high-end rares that pop up once or twice a year as it is.

The CIB market fluctuates ALOT compared to cart-only, so if you bought your copy of Sqoon 5 years ago and have just left it on your shelf then you probably don't know it's current value.  Then you list it at "$250" which is what you remember it being "worth", only to be shocked with $100-$125 offers come your way.  The last two copies I've seen auctioned (1 on eBay, one on CTCW) went to MRN and Aaronshea, both in the $120-$130 range, 2-3 months ago.  You only know what the games used to be worth, not what they are worth now.

And finally, the most hilarious part is that you: "laugh everytime someone says XXX....".  You know what makes me laugh?  A seasoned collector selling a MINT Chubby Cherub for $180 when it easily one of the rarest boxes to come by, even rarer in MINT condition, ESPECIALLY considering you paid $400 for it.  What else are you selling?  A MINT DK Math for $200?  An SE Box for $300?  Not only have you parted with some of the best items in your collection, you have also managed to lose money in the process!  Please share more of this wisdom!

then I sold a lot of 100 CIB that I estimated I spent $1000 on. only sold for around $400 image

As you can see this has got me worried over here...

At least two people were willing to spend in excess of $1300 for that one, just last month.

You level up faster if you spend all your time on the super peninsula fighting out-of-depth enemies.

This is sooo true.  I got most of my collection 3-5 years ago, but now I have absolutely no idea on prices for almost everything.  Unless you are actively buying or selling you just loose track of the values that aren't discussed.  Really with there was a CIB price guide!

I had thought about trying to develop one myself, and I'm sure Dr. Robbie and Dangevin have thought about it as well.  The problem is that CIB values really do go all over the place, and lots of CIBs don't even pop up every month making them impossible to track with a monthly value.  It'd be a huge headache and the data would be spotty at best, but it'd be interesting to see one if it ever develops.

  • Wow Jonas... the long post above at 5:49 AM is your best post of all 2,566 you've made. Spot on!
  • no shit, jonas is the man here. I agree. FCTwin is off his rocker.

jone, you are BY FARRRRRRR my least liked person on NA, and i disagree with 99% of your posts, but every once in a while, you post things like this. kudos!

to knock on you a little bit... the verb "trolling" is overused by you! image

but in all seriousness, that was definitely your best, and most accurate, post ever. this guy has no idea what he is talking about whatsoever!  hell of a response there!

  • Jone is that unliked that much. hmm, sorry dude. I like you. You always offer your thoughts in the price check and are pretty good at sharing your thoughts kindly in other threads. Maybe I need to give you more time to annoy me until I hate you. haha.

And ya, I agree with what you say about watching current markets and the like.

This is the reason I love you. You made my day.

  • This has gone from idiot bashing, to collector praising. Rock on Jone.
  • 1. I fucking love my collection.

    2. I've considered selling things off, downsizing just to what I'll play...then I realized at some point I'll play everything. No matter how terrible a game is, I'll end up playing it multiple times.

    3. The only thing that would make me sell my collection is losing a place to keep it.
  • 1- How do you feel about your collection?

At this point, I'm not happy with my collection. I felt I let a lot of chances go in the past to make my collection a worthy one.

2- Have you thought about selling it or do you plan to soon?

I don't think I'm ever going to sell stuff from my collection unless it's something I really hate or a double.

  • 1- How do you feel about your collection?

I find it aesthetically pleasing. Small though.

2- Have you thought about selling it or do you plan to soon?

    No, no way.

  • It seems to me that vintage things have begun to get trendy in the last couple of years. I think it will be very interesting in the next couple of years what will happen to the price of the classic games. I think changes will begin to happen in the next couple of years when more and more younger people start collecting nes games who never had nes's before or by the time they were old enough to play video games their first system was an snes or N64.
  • 1- How do you feel about your collection?

meh........... As far as NES and SNES goes Im only collecting boxed stuff that I actually will play.

I prefer it boxed because it looks good on the shelf when Im not playing them.

2- Have you tought about selling it or do you plan to soon?

I usually sell it all once a year or continually. Most times it's just stuff I don't want or extras but always close to $1000 worth of games or more.

3- For those of you who have sold out, what was the reason(s)?

Needed money and no permanent storage solutions. Im living in my girlfriends house and the garage is already cluttered with my games and her architecture tools. I had to sell my 3 arcade machine projects when I moved.
