dov's impact?

i have bought over 40 sealed games on and off ebay from dov(dov is an awesome & an trustworthy seller off ebay) and i am very happy that he found his stash.  he has been a top notch seller since day one.  i was wondering what other collectors out there, think of his impact on sealed nes collecting?  i started collecting sealed nes games last september and i had never seen a sealed rygar, bubble bobble, rad racer(just a couple of  examples).as we all know dov has probably sold 15 or more copies of each of the titles i mentioned and he is still listing them.   i also hardly ever saw games like ninja gaiden, willow, gun smoke, commando, etc for sale. do you think the prices for all of the games that are now  availabe and floating around such as metroid, contra, bubble bobble, ninja gaiden, all the cheaper games, etc will go up,go down, or remain about the same??  i think dov has brought a lot of new sealed collectors into the hobby and generated a big buzz around sealed collecting.  that is a very posisitve thing.  any thoughts?

  • has there ever been someone that came into the hobby like dov before september 2008?
  • Yeah I think dov's stuff has had positive results overall, and helped make the hobby a little more visible. I agree his stash has helped circulate copies of games that otherwise were tough to find, as you mention several. As for the prices, I think for the stuff that he has many copies of, the first ones he sold went at a premium, but they started to level out. The better condition, the higher price too. I don't know of anyone else before him that had/has inventory like dov.
  • I think it has had positive effects as blarky has pointed out but most definitely has tanked the market on quite a few games. Games that were considered "rare" previously can no longer be pointed to as such when you have 20+ copies being sold in the past 2 months. Previously you could not find a sealed Metroid for less than $500 and now you have copies up every week selling for around $300. So, the whole thing is definitely positive for those actively buying these games and most definitely negative for owners of the same games looking to sell (I am on both sides of the coin here).
  • Hmm, maybe I should buy some more off him.
  • buy while you still can, he can't last forever. i wish i would have come into the hobby when he came along a couple months ago, rather than a few months before his arrival. i would have saved a lot of money! i always bought a game here and a game there. he has very high quality and 100% legit games.
  • I was staying away from sealed games till Dov came around.. now I've picked up about 12. He definitely did his part in bringing in other collectors.

And yah, I can see how him being here is both a negative, and a positive for most the sealed collectors, but in my case having never thought of collecting that way.. it's purely a positive experience.
  • I was trying to avoid buying or owning any sealed game(s) but ended up doing a private order with Dov for about 30. I opened them all. 1 out of 2 ain't bad...
  • Ha.. awesome. Did you add them to the sealed game contents list?!
  • I think it is a positive that Dov found his stash o'games!!!! As i was a merely a MINT CIB collector before he came around,i am now a sealed collector.I have bought well over a hundred sealed games from dov off of ebay and in person,i use to drive up and c Dov every weekend for a month and buy games off of him privately. He is a great guy to deal with and it seems like his stash o'games is never going to end. image
  • Everyone is turning sealed haha. It's not really for me, but I have a few. It's cool to have a few on hand. And good for knowledge to physically hold and view them. I doubt I could spot a good fake, but I do have more respect for them and no a little more about what I'm looking at.

Yes I did. I opened 40 games in less than an hour...what a rush!

I dunno, metroid's come down slightly maybe but most (all?) of the copies he's been offering are damaged and it was only the mint copies that ever got above 500 anyways.    And contra somehow has gone up despite him selling ten of them!

For the amount of stuff he's selling, for the fact that much of it has slight damage tweaks, given the economy...... I am impressed with how stable prices have been.    Yes its come down from the crazy prices he was getting, but he's still getting full FMV almost all the time, and this is after having unloaded at least a couple thousand games already.     Pretty impressive.

As others have said the extra supply has drawn in more collectors.    Paradoxically all this extra supply has probably been a great thing for the sealed market.    Too hard to bring in new collectors when there isn't enough to go around.

  • I did a private deal with Dov and all the copies I got were mint mint mint. He has them, maybe he is just unloading the damaged stuff first image
  • I never even entertained buying Fact. sealed games til' I found out about Dov. I was sniping and lucked out tonight-got 5 sealed for the amazing price of $6.08! I'm really happy right now as you can imagine.

Isn't his shipping pretty expensive.  It's 15 for the first game and 4 for each additional game.

I didn't even notice he lived here, and I've looked at tons of his auctions. How did you meet him, ebay messages? I could probably just go and pick up whatever I won (if I had money to bid) on my way home from work (if I had a job) and my girlfriend (if I had one) wouldn't even get mad!

    Post of the day.

  • Thanks for the new signature Phil!
  • Did you do a private deal through ebay or here?

I'm interested in about 10 items and his last post indicated a minimum of 35. I could ask Jumpman if there were any he wanted when he gets back from Japan, but thats still probably only 20 combined.

  • I'm sorry but I have no clue about what you are talking about. Could someone tell me the story of Dov. It sounds very interesting. When did he find all this stuff. Where, how much, any totally awesome pics of all of it? Please inlighten me.

Those shipping quotes are for the states. In Canada it's 10 for the first and 4 for any additional items, quite fair as I've seen some people charge 8 bucks for a single cart. I ship a lot of collectibles, and evidently so does he and to ensure they come in the condition they were listed it takes great care in packing-and time. I have no qualms about his shipping prices, they are absolutely fair. But since you're in the states, I guess shipping could get a bit pricey, but where else can you find a selection like his, all starting at 0.99 cents with no reserve? Anyways, he's the only seller on my "favorites" list, and hope his listings never end!

  • His listing already seem to be slowing down. Only 3 or 4 pages unlike 10+ pages a couple months ago. He'll run out image
  • Well the stock is not unlimited you know image
  • dovs impact = a longer recession for some of us in this economy =D
  • Maybe dov has a time machine and keeps going back 20 years ago to get more stock? LOL

haha. All the US $ coming across the border for his games is gonna single handly stimulate the Canadian economy. Thanks Dov for selling out when we need your $. image
  • Really don't wanna share this but don't want to be greedy, plus I don't have the funds to buy too much more anyways, just going to try and stick to CIB's, so figured I'd let you more financially free people know this, if you don't already . Just asked him about a custom order, he said to act fast because the "more popular titles" are almost out of stock, quite unfortunate. Shame I didn't find out about him earlier, but don't want to get too obsessed about sealed games, I'd be living on bread and butterimage It's just too darn tempting to pass up a sealed Contra in the same condition as when it was released 20 plus years ago. Think I bid on his last one, got up to $200 and just had to stop bidding as much as I didn't want to. I'll still bid on some lower priced games now and then though, maybe get lucky.
  • I think most people have done the custom order thing too image The ones I got off him like that were in pristine condition, and for a slight bit less than the ones with damage went for on the bay. By all means I say getting in touch with him personally is the way to go.
  • At $200 I'd buy all of the mint Contras out there. I paid much, much more for mine.

Well I just stopped bidding at 200 because the other bidder had a high proxy bid, I was willing to go higher but I've been going overboard lately with all my purchases. The two he sold this month went for 275 and 285, still good prices that's for sure. What did you get your's for if you don' t mind me asking?
