Get back to me! (some guy with stadium events)

So i posted a local classified with my most wanted titles. Don't know if this guy is for real, but why lie? Anyways, here's what he sent me.

"From: @hotmail.com

Hi there, I have a copy of Castlevania 3, Megaman 1-3, Snow Bro's and Stadium Events, make an offer if you're interested"

So I made him an offer on friday, and he's not respondingimage I didn't sound too excited in the e-mail, but I hope he didn't google stadium events- that would explain the lack of communication). To find one locally would be unreal, so I'm waiting on pins and needles for him to answer back. Just a week ago I had struck a deal for 10 bucks for exertainment mountain bike rally/speed racer. Then he e-mails back saying he found out how rare it is, wanting $250, also an action 52 for 5 bucks that I haven't gotten an answer from. Damn you Google!!! Many incredible deals lost because I never get responses after the initial e-mails? WHY?

Ahh, Just needed to vent, I mean if the guy with stadium events gets back I'm looking at a massive profit, the others would be for personal play 'cause I love snow. bros. Wish me luck that I get a response, but I'm starting to doubt it.

Comments

  • If you make a list of games you are buying people will look them up. I know I would
  • They are screwing with you. If you are talking massive profit, they are likely laughing at your obvious lowball offer.
  • Yeah if you want to have a nice chuckle just post something like this on craigslist:

"I have x,y,z games for sale for $20, oh and I'll throw in this cheap looking extra game one called "stadium events"

,and see how many people respond to you within the next day image
  • If they're smart enough to use craigslist , they're smart enough to look up what they're selling. Most the time you won't find a ridiculously good deal on the internet.
  • No, this wasn't a for sale ad, wanted.  I offered the guy (not "they") a fairly decent amount, didn't lowball it nor highball it. I don't want to disclose his e-mail addy, but it had family in it, so maybe this guy has had these games since he was a teen, and is a family man looking to get rid of "junk" (at least I hope). He said to make him an offer on the snow bros, etc. so I did, a fair one as well. Nowhere in the listing or e-mail did I write "I'm looking to make lots of money here, sell me some rare games for cheap please!" I wrote that I was looking for some games for my nephews, and posted a list, which in hindsight maybe wasn't a good idea.

But even on my other classifieds where I write that I want anything Nintendo, no specifics (that's where I got an offer for a quote "some weird game with over 50 games in 1 cartridge" ) the same thing happens, initial e-mail then no responses, even if it's just for a SMB/DH with toaster. But being screwed around and laughed at IDK, possibly

Also, this isn't craigslist related, It's a much more localized classified site, and believe me, most people around my area ARE complete idiots, no joke, look at my post in the weekly wild finds sticky if you want to see what I mean. Just minutes ago I made a deal for a Boxed SNES console, super gameboy, superscope, and 47 mostly great games for 150- even has a Boxed SF Alpha 2, saw pics, it's mint, now I have 2 copies boxed, can most likly get 50-60 on ebay for that 1, there's almost half the price back, also 7 other boxed games, I'm picking it up tomorrow

Maybe my e-mail turns them off, I don't know (Hushmail domain). Amazing deals do happen and some people just don't know what they have in their basements, collecting dust and worth 100's. Like I wrote in the OP, if that guy hadn't checked speed racer at the last moment, well.  You never know, it's the weekend and some people don't check e-mails constantly. F it, any hopes I had have pretty much been dashed image

  • The other thing is this if you offered him 100 for stadium events wouldn;t that raise a flag?

Thats kinda what I wrote while you were writing yor post. I offered the whole lot for 75, which I didn't think would raise any brows 'cause there were a few quality titles (megaman), but maybe it did. Did not offer any high prices on any individs. though, I knew that would pique interest.  No response in a few days, I'll consider it a no go.

  • phone the guy I'd suggest in you initial reply don't go into very much detail and just ask if you could get his/her number so you can discuss a price and then where to go to pick them up... at least that way the pressure is on them to get back to you so less chance for them to search the stuff up... maybe
    just my 2 cents

    something like

    Hey,

Just received your E-mail, thanks for the response to my add. I think I might be interested in the games you mentioned, the only thing is that I might be going away ___________ (insert date maybe 2 days away ) would you mind giving me your phone number so we could take care of this before then so I have one less thing to do when I get back

    thanks again _______________ (insert name

I'm pretty sure $75 is a lowball image

  • If $75 isn't a lowball offer I don't know what is The guy is messing with you. Looking for a few games for my nephew and paying 15 each??

  • Dude, we all find sweet deals. There are "stupid" people everywhere. But that many people telling you they have XX for YY, they're messing with you. I got a box full of CIB games including chrono trigger and other huge titles that would put your find to shame with two systems for $80. But I garauntee, nobody in MB or BC has an SE and doesn't know what it's worth. If they do have one, they will find out how much it's worth before selling it to you for $75. Sorry, you're getting played.

Your Maxi 15 find makes sense. This doesn't.

By the way, somebody on usedvictoria.com uses the "looking for easy to play games for my nephew" line around here. Every collector in Vic knows about him and we all don't fall for it.

My mistake, checked my e-mail and and my offer was actually 85. 15  is lowballin' for castlevania, 3? I wouldn't think so. Megaman's 2, and 3 are some of the most common as far as I know and I've seen many locally for 10-15. So lets say 30 for those 3, and the other 55 for snow bros and stadium events.  What should I of done, offered $500? that would of been highly suspect to him, I gave hin this offer on the predication that he wasn't a collector/knowledgeable

IDK why most people think I've being taken for a ride? Maybe I'm just wishing, and hoping. it could possibly be the PAL stadium events, or I am being screwed around. If he was messing, then why wouldn't he of offered more titles, and really, to take me for a ride just to get laughs via e-mail, you'd have to be a bit of a nutter as far as I'm concerned. Hope I'm not coming off as acrimonius, I've been up 30 odd hours straight and am running on empty, surprised I can still spell, sory if I came off as rude

I just did that a few hours back almost verbatim, said I was gonna be in his area for only 2 days to visit family, and I don't come into his area very often so I asked if he wanted my # to set something up before I leave (little white lie, but Is about a 35 min. drive). Didn't sound desperate or anything in the mesage, maybe he was away for the weekend or somethin, so I'll give it til' tuesday or wednesday. If I email every 3-4 hours then he'll know something was up

Moronic question, but I don't use hotmail often. Is there a "Read Receipt" option with hotmail? Then I could at least know if he's read my messages, which would provide some insight as to whether he's even reading my messages. Time for some sleep. Maybe I;ll have an e-mail in the morning saying sure, I'll take that offer, come on down, but maybe I'm just dreaming, we'll see what develops- hopefully in the positive, but probably doubtful.

Oh tuxedo- it's just one guy, one lot of games, I only got two responses and the other was for adv. Islands. Also, that's the first time I used the nephew line lol, I really don't know why, didn't really expect it to work and revised it within hours of posting the orig. ad. Shiet, thought I possibly found the deal of my life, but now I'm all all downtrodden. Oh well. image and image and still need to find that TMNT stuff for ya, I'll contact u as soon as I can.

  • Hope this works out for you.

There was a guy in my local craigslist, clearly had NO clue what he was sitting on (mispellings, wrong words, etc). He had a copy of "Stadium Event" randomly in with all the games. I shat myself. But, he never got back to me. I'm sure the CL vultures picked that shit up immediately (about 4 days ago now).

EDIT: Sucks cause I probably got beat by an hour or two. I could of really used some money for my family...

Who would pay $85 for a few "old" games for there nephew. It is nice to dream, but I think this one is a little unrealistic

  • If im understanding correctlly the same guy had mbr/sr for sale if thats so and he looked it up why would he not look up se. also I dont think people are the ones stupid or morons for selling games cheap. There just games. They probally see people paying thousands of dollars for a game as stupid.
  • for more info on CL silliness refer to Oct 2008 E-Zine there is a nice article in that one

No, different people completely. I didn't really mean stupid in an IQ way, I just meant some people don't know what's sitting in the basement, collecting value and dust.  "They're just games"? Well I wish everybody sold games at dollars a piece. If collecting was that lacksadaisical and cheap, I'd have a full set x2.image  The most I've paid for a single NES game so far is $80.

"pats1717 "Who would pay $85 for a few "old" games for there nephew. It is nice to dream, but I think this one is a little unrealistic"

ok? maybe so, whatever. But I did get DW's 2,3,and 4 out of the ad for 35 bucks with equipment lists, manuals, and maps for $30, guy sent pics so I'm not being "screwed around" , meeting up on the 'morrow to buy/take a closer look. That's a fair deal in my books for a few  "old games". And at first glance that seemed unrealistic, but as I mentioned he sent pics

Wow, 300 views? I guess mention SE and people will come a running. Someone feel free/please delete this thread. I guess my topic was a bit tangential/ irrelevant to begin with anyways. it has seemed to of turned into a thread about sh*theads on craigslist which there are a lot of, but I never use it and my ad was never posted on it...

  • It sucks when you think you have a good and/or great deal, and then it seems that the deal wont go through for some reason image

Something like this happend to me maybe 1-2 years ago. I found a person who adverticed a boxed Mr. Gimmick for the NES for about $40 - $50 US dollars or so. I was in contact with this person and i said that i wanted to buy the game. The person said it was ok, and i was waiting for the bank details to pay for the game. After this i didnt heard anything from this person for a while. I sent some e-mails to this person, but i still didnt hear anything. I figured that he/she had sold the game to someone else :\

Later on i got a reply from this person though, but all the message said was something like "hello?". I didnt quite understand why he/she sent me a message like this, but later on, maybe 2 weeks or so, i see that i had gotten an e-mail from this person that i had missed hehe :\ Unfortunately i dont quite remember what this mail said though, but maybe if i had seen this e-mail before, then maybe i would be able to buy the game.

But i dont know if i would have risked it though, since the seller didnt live in the same country as me, it wasnt through an auction site or anything like that, so there wasnt any security at all like some other auction sites has, and i also asked to/had to (?) pay in advance. I dont think that the seller mentioned why he/she didnt reply to me in a few days either, so maybe i wouldnt have risked of paying for the game even if i saw the e-mail that i first missed.

This isnt exactly the same thing that happend to you though, but i just wanted to mention an experience i had where a good deal didnt go through.

But as 'The Bear' said earlier in this thread, i hope that this deal works out for you image And i hope that you will get to buy the games image

Well that is an similar situation, and a crappy one as well. I forgot to thank "The Bear" . Thanks to you as well, but I don't think this one's gonna come through. I was thinking of e-mailing 1 more time, but I probably won't., maybe you guys are right, and I've been cajoled, don't know why someone would do that? Oh well..
Just wish hotmail had a read receipt option, which is nice to have, as I could see if he's even read my mesages . I don't think my e-mails would go into his junk or spam, as I opened up a hotmail acct, he has also has a hotmail domain.
Oh well, My Maxi 15 find makes me feel a bit better, although I'm now debating whether or not I should sell it, which I REALLY don't want to do, but I need the $ right now, but it is so so niceimage I'll think about it some more.  Anyways, thanks again, and if by some huge miracle this guy comes through, I'll let y'all know, but I really doubt it.
