Liking Game Stop even less now

Found these at the flea market this weekend and was sad to see what it says on the carts "Field Destroy"
I imagine this is what they did at the end with the carts that did not sell. They all worked so it is not because of defects

Pretty sad to think of what they destroyed back then

  • That's f'ed up. I didn't know they did that to their games!!!
  • Wow. The Gamestops in Atlanta just relocated all of their NES games to one or two stores that did a decent volume. Back in 2003/2004 they liquidated all of it at firesale prices, and would have had nothing left to "field destroy".

By the way, I'm sure it would burn you up to know that many stores that have standees or demo machines are contractually obligated to destroy them at the end of the demo period.
  • That's just sad. Imagine all the BBB's and Action 52's that experienced this.
  • Back when I worked at gamestop, items were marked as field destroy to be handled by the DM upon a return of the game stating defect. Half the time, he never destroyed the carts and we were instructed to throw them out....which most of the time we completly ignored that and took the shit home.
  • Man fuck Gamestop, I hate that store. They forced all of the great mom and pop used CD stores around by me that sold NES games out of business.
  • Gamestation in the UK destroyed all their stock of Retro games about a year or so ago when they stopped selling older titles.

I never go in there anymore.
  • so is life
  • Sad, but true! My main hobby/job (besides video game collecting), is hot rod building. So many times I hear stories about farmers scrapping or digging big holes and burying all their old model T and model A body shells. Such a waste, very similar to gamestores destroying their old stock! AAARRRGGGHHH!
