What was the first console you got as a kid and what games did you get for it?

I got an N64 for my birthday, I think my 7th birthday, that was the first console I owned. Right away I got Pokémon Snap and Donkey Kong 64, and as time went on I had ten games before moving on to the GameCube. Mario Kart, Mario 64, Smash Bros, Mario Tennis, Dr Mario, Pokémon Stadium, Pokémon Stadium 2 and Paper Mario were the others. I was a huge Mario and Pokémon fan as you can see   that ended up working out nicely because I didn't have any crap games. what did you have as a kid?

Edit: I'd like to add I still own those carts from my childhood, does anyone else? And I should've probably worded the question better. I meant what was your whole stash of games before moving on to the next console

  • Nes for Christmas with Defender II and Gun.Smoke

I still have my original Mario duck hunt and gun.smoke. I never liked defender ii so I got rid of that somewhere along the way
  • Game Boy:

    Super Mario Land

    Kirby's Dream Land

    Link's Awakening
  • NES Power Set for Christmas of 1989.

I had the pack-in games. (my mom was the first one in the house to figure out how to beat Cheetah on WCTM)

My sister (3 years younger than me) was given Mickey Mousecapades... which as a 5-year-old promptly scared her away from video games until adulthood, given the absurd difficulty (for such a young-kid-themed game)

I think within the month, I was allowed to pick out a new game at Toys R Us, and my dad and I picked out Legend of Zelda.
  • Nintendo Entertainment System Action Set (Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt)

Sortly after Super Mario 2 and Mike Tysons Punch Out
  • I got an NES Action Set for my 5th birthday. I cannot remember what games I got for it at the time.
  • Atari 2600 with Enduro and Jungle Hunt and Pacman! Christmas 1982 (I was 8). I know I am old.
  • The NES Challenge Set Christmas of 1992. It came with SMB3 and that was the only game I had for a while. I rented a lot. I'd been thinking I got it earlier, but I looked it up and that set came out Christmas of 1992, it seems. So I would have been 5. I sucked at Mario.   I'm pretty sure I only ever had two other games for the system: Yoshi and Wario's Woods. My parents didn't really know what to buy, so they probably just got what was cheaper.

The NES "broke" a few years later and it ended up getting trashed. Pity, since I now know it could have been saved. I had the games for a long time thereafter, still complete in box. Seems like I can recall seeing them in one of my drawers during my teenage years, but I have no idea whatever happened to them.
  • Control Deck Nes with super mario: Christmas 1987 and still own that console which still works.

Day 1 games: baseball, pro wrestling, and Super Mario Bros.

Went to visit family on 12/26/87 and found Metroid. Game 5 was Zelda some months later but I was hooked lol.
  • Atari 2600, back in 1983.

It was mostly my mom's console, but still. The games she got with it were Pitfall, H.E.R.O., Enduro, River Raid, Pac-Man, Keystone Kappers, Megamania and Sea Quest. All good stuff.
  • SNES with Super Mario World, Christmas of 1993

My dad also gave me Madden NFL '94 and my mom gave me Battletoads Double Dragon

They also ran the free Super Mario All-Stars with proof of purchase promotion around that time, so I got that too
  • We had the NES at my grandma's house, which I believe had been purchased for my older brother. I had all the Nintendo handhelds beginning with the Game Boy Pocket, and my parents got us the N64, which we shared, and the GameCube, which was just mine. By the time the Wii came out, I was a teenager, getting ready for college.

As far as games go, we mostly had a nice selection of go-to titles for the systems listed above. My biggest memories are playing the various Pokemon games on the handhelds and playing all the Smash games, specifically 64 and Melee (along with the 64 mainstays: GoldenEye, Mario 64, etc.). I'm definitely fortunate that my family encourage my playing and whatnot; I think they'd rather I spent more time outside, but oh well.
  • I was pretty young so I don't completely remember exactly what I got, but I remember getting an NES with Mario/Duck Hunt and Zelda in the late 80's maybe even 1990.
  • My sister and I got a Sega Genesis from our two older brothers on Christmas of '93 I believe. We got Aladdin and World of Illusion (Mickey Mouse). I remember opening the Sega on Christmas Eve and being beyond excited, then absolutely crushed to realize there were no controllers! They wrapped them as separate gifts in our stockings for Christmas morning!

I do remember getting NES games for Christmas before that though. Tiny Toon Adventures, and Super Mario Bros 3 stand out.
  • Technically both of my first consoles were my dads. He had a test launch era NES which i still have the original zapper, game carts, and box for. I could never find the ROB and i think the console got thrown out because no one knew about cleaning pins to fix it. Then my dad had a SNES that became mine. Those were my familys only consoles until the PS2

Yeah I actually had a second hand nes very briefly before the N64. We couldn't get it to work so it got thrown out and later that year I got my N64. I feel like I missed out
  • Does a $3000 386 DOS PC count? (not sure if CD Drives for PC's were available yet)(It cost more than my car)

SNES w/Super Mario World & Super Castlevania IV. Bought and rented lots of games before I even put SMW in the console.
  • The first console that was bought for me was an NES Control Deck and Hydlide. yeah....

    that's painful
  • NES with SMB/Duck Hunt.

Later on my parents bought a ton of NES games from a video store that went under, so I had something like 15-20 NES games before I upgraded to the SNES in 1992. I don't recall ever getting a brand new NES game, just the big haul and lots of rentals.
  • I was given a Sega Genesis by my Uncle who didnt want it anymore the games that I had it were Ghouls n Ghosts, Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Streets of Rage, Aladdin, Jungle Book, Earthworm Jim, Jurrasic Park, WWF, Lion King, Ms Pac Man, NBA Jam, Castle of Illusion, Ecco The Dolphin, Road Rash 2, Taz Mania, Toy Story, NHL 95 and Talespin. I still get pissed that my parents sold it all cause it meant a lot to me.

that is a really solid collection to start with
  • I got a used super Nintendo in 1997 for my 12th birthday. Console, 2 controllers, all the hookups. Mortal Kombat 3 cart and super Mario world cart. $40.
  • Atari 2600! Remember playing Combat with my brother.
  • I believe I was around 5 years old when I received my model 1 Sega Genesis with Sonic packed in. Prior to that I had played an NES at my grandmothers but the Genesis was MY first system.
  • N64. Super Mario 64, then shortly after I got Mario Kart
  • My family had a NES when I was really young, but my sister got mad at me playing it one day (since I wasn't playing with her), so she jumped off the couch onto it and broke it. That Christmas (1994, I believe), my uncle got me a model 2 Sega Genesis with Sonic 2, Mario Andretti Racing, Jurassic Park, NBA Jam TE, and Paperboy.

Well i was born in 98 and i got my genesis in 2001 and when my uncle gave it to me it came with both sonics, streets of rage, and nhl. The rest my parents bought for me for a few bucks each. I pmayed the hell out of those games and they wanted to get me a newer conaoel so they sold the genesis and all the games and got me a ps2. I love me the ps2 but i would take genesis anyday.
  • The first console we had as a family was the Sega Masters System. We begged and begged for a NES but the Sega was on sale so my parents got that instead.

Chop Lifter, Hang-On & Safari Hunt, and Marksman Shooting and Trap Shooting where the first and only games we got for that system. Soon after we finally got an NES.
  • mine was a nes deluxe w/ rob for Xmas

its was something out of this world and was stuck on playing it for like the longest ....

but it was destroyed w/ many others back in 05 and could nt be saved =/
  • Atari 2600 with Jungle Hunt, Frogger, Pac-Man, and other commons I don't remember at the moment was the family system, but my parents didn't get my brother and I our own system until the SNES came out. We got the SMW bundle and then had Paint, All-Stars, Jungle Strike the Star Wars games, Pit Fall, and the Super Game Boy for my brother's GB games.
