dra600n's Rockband 4 Progress (Streaming 1/9/2017, 6:32 PM NA time)
So, since I'm obsessed with this game (okay, maybe not obsessed...anymore), and I've spent thousands of hours of my life playing this game, and spending thousands of dollars on the Guitar Hero/Rockband games over the years (bandkits/new releases, replacement guitars and drum kits, and DLC, I'd say I spent around $2,000 in total), I figured I'd start a thread about it and my progress through it, and if anyone likes the game and wants to talk about it, well, here ya go
Current Rankings:
RB4 Disc Only Songs Score: 7,905,547
RB4 Disc Only Songs (songs that came only on the game disc): 715 out of 139,266 (top 1%, XBL), 1,146 out of 258,723 (top 1% between both PSN and XBL)
RB4 All Songs: Unknown*
RB4 Brutal Mode (expert mode, but can't see the notes after a split second): 88 out of 18,774 (top 1%)
Full Combo's (Expert): 845 out of 16,286
Gold Stars* :ranked 280 out of 31,971
* All songs include DLC, so it's basically a "pay to be at the top leaderboard". It's at this point to really find out where you'd rank, you'd need to account for specific songs, which isn't impossible, but an ungodly amount of work for bragging rights.
I generally don't care about overall rankings (this is the first time I actually looked them up), but I do check the individual song scores just to see where I'm at, especially if I'm trying to gold star the song, so I can see how close I am (and if it's within my skill to get it or will require a lot of practice).
Current # of songs: 413
Current # of Gold Stars: 262 songs, 1,310 Gold Stars
Current # of 5 Stars: 140 songs, 700 Stars
Current # of 4 Stars: 11 songs, 55 Stars
Current # of 3 Stars: 1 song, 3 Stars
Current # of Full Combos: 31
Tonight, I think my goal is to get at least 3 more songs gold starred, play a few unplayed songs, and see if I can't get some of the other songs out of the 3 and 4 star group.
I do tend to stream it on twitch, so if anyone wants to watch, here's the channel:

I might look into some of the modded Guitar Hero games. Looks like a ton a fun with all the custom songs. I definitely don't have the interest in the games that I once did, but I played a shit ton over the last 6-8 years.
Good luck man! Quite impressive to be top 1% in any game.
Thanks! And thanks! I figured I was somewhere in the top 10%, hell, I would've been happy with the top 50% lol, but it's pretty cool either way.
impressive shit
Thanks
I haven't played RB4 or Guitar Hero Live yet. Had most songs gold starred on drums (95% maybe) and quite a few on guitar for RB2/3. I love that game as well as Guitar Hero 3.

I was going to try GH:Live, but I don't like the new guitar layout, nor do I like the whole "live" aspect of it. If you're planning on picking up RB4, wait til the fall time. Online play is coming by Christmas I believe, plus they broke up with Mad Catz and they'll be new (hopefully a lot better quality/design) guitar, and presumably drum kit. If you've imported the RB1 and 2 tracks into RB3, you now have them for RB4, and you can import RB3 songs in now.
I'm sure Mr. Waffles is proud!
Bert - I used to be a guitar hero only kinda guy until world tour. Once that steaming pile of dookie came out, I switched to Rockband. GH 5 and 6 were okay, but it still didn't feel the same after 3.
NintenJoe - it's been a while man! How have ya been?
Alder - yeah, TTFAF is a bitch. It's easier on smash hits, and on rockband, it's still a nightmare. The wired xplorer is my favorite guitar for these games, but they don't work on the xbone I'm doing worse on most songs because of this, though I'm starting to get the hang of the new guitar (though it always over strums randomly, or sometimes will cut out for no reason). I'm looking forward to the non-mad catz instruments.
Rcorporon - I used to feel the same way (I was a professional musician in the early 2000's for a few years). I still play my real guitars, but when you want to jam with a full band, you can only play what they know and what you know, or write originals. Both are fun, but it's a lot of work and can be a lot of drama. People getting kicked out of the band, people purposefully screwing up just to not play a song, etc. Still, these games aren't for everyone, and I respect that
Can you change the thread title to the next time you plan on streaming. I'd like to check it out. I love watching high level Rock Band/ Guitar Hero.
You got it. Also, streaming now
If anyone has a request, lmk
I've been good. stay in the shadows mostly working on projects and shit. Been doing a little dabbling in independent film making and I am loving it. I set up a small studio focusing on offering production and post processing. Currently in post on a trailer to be pitched to netflix, scheduled to shoot a feature length in july, with a few more pots in the fire.
Nice! Good luck with everything!

I always thought the GH3 TTFAF was easier to 100% but maybe it's just cause I've played it more than the Smash Hits engine. Those purple tap notes mess with my brain. I'd like to get a wireless guitar though, maybe a Les Paul.. but about half of the ones I've used had weird tilt detection so I'd always end up triggering Star Power when I didn't want to. I tried modding one once but completely fried the board

what don't you like about the new layout? It takes some time to get used to of course, but I find it way more complex than the old layout. I'll still break out GH 2 or 3 but I like The layout of live just for a greater challenge. It actually really fucks with you if you're not used to it but it's also rewarding to figure out

I don't think I'd have much trouble getting used to the new layout (I play real guitar as well), the problem for me, though, is I'd get bored just keeping my hand in 1 spot with the buttons stacked on each other like that.
Also, I dislike listening to live recorded music, which seems to be what GH:L is all about. Yeah, Rockband has some crowd noises (and some live tracks), but when you're in the thick of it, most of the audience noise is reduced or even gone entirely.
And finally, Guitar Hero's DLC in the past has always lacked (and stopped very early in the lifecycle of the games). I have hundreds of DLC / imported tracks from previous Rockband iterations, so it's hard to justify spending money on songs I already have in RB (I'm still missing about ~40 songs from RB that they haven't put out for the entitlements, mainly RBN songs, but a few non-RBN songs like Metallica and some RHCP). Plus, there are thousands of songs for download with Rockband. If I didn't get any DLC, I'd have been done with RB4 2 weeks after it was released
Honestly, once Activision obtained the GH franchise, it's always suffered. World Tour had a horrible track list, 5 was very bland (and the track list wasn't the greatest, though had some great tunes), and Warriors of Rock just became ridiculous with adding 234892304903280498203 stars per song. Of course, these are just my opinions
The only thing GH had over RB, to me, was the guitars. I hate the RB strat, and unfortunately, that's all I can use with RB4 (until the fall when the new instruments arrive). This generation, GH has online while RB4 doesn't (until the fall/winter season this year), but that's because EA isn't backing Harmonix anymore for whatever reason.
But, the main turnoff to GH:L is the "let's use real people for the bands and a real crowd, and have all sorts of noise in the background from the audience". When I play a game, I want to play a game, not emulate a real life situation
Never really got into these games. I'd rather play real instruments.
Nonsense. I play real instruments, and I love playing Rock Band games. They're nice for getting you out of your comfort zone and playing around with songs you wouldnt normally try on your own, or didn't know about. Some good friends of mine had songs make it to the Rock Band Network, which is all that much more fun to play around on.
Also, Rock Band is an absolute blast at parties; it's like karaoke turned up to 11. We'd get about 10+ people together, get pretty drunk, and jam out all night, taking requests, switching instruments, etc. Good times.
Nice work dra6oon!

I had 2 groups of friends that would get together on the weekends for that exact reason.
Also, what a lot of people don't realize either is that expert drums = playing on a real 5 piece kit (with the exception of some of the foot work, but if you're playing on expert, you'll be able to figure that out). Guitar and bass on expert, the strumming hand is near identical to a real guitar/bass as well.
Another excellent point you brought up is the new music aspect - you'll play (and listen) to songs you normally wouldn't, and you can find some real gems in there (in both GH and RB).
If you have RB4 on the XBone, add me and we'll jam out when online multiplayer comes about: elusiveshame

you know.. I'm having a hard time disagreeing with anything you said. I don't play guitar so the only draw to me is the extra challenge from a different layout. And yeah i got sucked it with GH2 and 3 for months, while I haven't even go e through all the on disc songs yet on live since Xmas there's also some odd choices for tracks. I still like it but not as much as the older ones
