Static when NES is turned on....help

Normally, you see the flickering screen when the pic connector is bad. What if the screen stays all static? When I turn it on, you can see the screen flicker but it is still static. I have it on the correct channel but no dice. I am testing all my systems right now so I know it isn't the adapter. What could be the problem and is it repairable?

    try running AV cables through it. sounds like the NES has an RF problem.

    I always wondered why I ended up with the AV plugs on both ends of the cord. I have thrown all those damn things way. hmmm....I'll see if I can locate some.
