  • Do Metal Gear Solid 3 instead - if you loved the original MGS1, you're gonna hate MGS2 (mostly because you are solid snake for only like 1/12th of the game, and the rest you are Raiden - who you will genuinely hate). MSG3 far exceeds MSG2 in nearly all aspects, in my humbly informed opinion.

Another buy - Final Fantasy 12. While X is superior in my book, 12 has a wonderfully indepth story line and features side quests up the wa-zoo. The battle mode is also unique - you might hate it, but give it like 5 honest hours and then it gets good.

EDIT: Oh wait. You already listed 12. Good call, and good day, sir.
  • Contra Shattered Soldier

    Contra Neo

    The Mark of Kri

    God of War 1 & 2

    Jak 3

I don't really know what kind of games you like

If you get MGS 3 then get Subsistence for all the really cool extras like the original MSX games.

I'll be honest, people critice the N64 games for not aging well, and I feel the same way about 90% of the PS2 library. Most of the stuff I like, outside of what I listed above, is the various arcade collections from Taito and Capcom and really arcady stuff that isn't 3D or doesn't rely on 3D gameplay. Stuff like The Red Star, Gradius V, R-Type Final, Disgaea 2, Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance, and numerous import shmups.
  • If you're a Ghosts 'n Goblins fan, you can't go wrong with the Maximo games. The God of War games are great too! A lot of good arcade collections (e.g., Namco, Mega Man, Gradius, Metal Slug, et. al.). Kingdom Hearts, Shadow of the Colossus, LotR, Demon Stone, Alien Hominid, there are a lot of great ones.
  • I'd say start watching top 20 PS2 game videos or something and take notes! There's thousands of games for this system. The library is staggering and there's definitely something for everybody here. I also agree with everything dmvanmeveren said.
  • Katamari Damacy and R-Type Final
  • Don't forget Final Fantasy X-2 (very much like Charlie's Angels) and Final Fantasy 12 (amazing graphics/complexity...you'll get your money's worth for sure!) as well as MegaMan Anniversary Collection and MegaMan X Collection.  Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 are wonderful games as well...and all of those titles can still be bought new off Amazon and/or Ebay for around $15-$20 each (especially if you don't mind GH-maroon label versions)...very much a bargain for those blue chip classics!!
  • Dark cloud 2, dragon quest 8, culdcept, okage, shadow of colossus, onimusha series, sly Cooper series, Odin sphere, rogue galaxy, disgaea series, the suffering, etc...

Mister Mosquito is fantastic. It's classic Japanese weirdness. A mosquito simulator where you annoy a Japanese family; flying around their house, sucking their blood.

I believe there was a Japan only sequel too.
  • Off the top of my head, here are some favorites

    Armored Core 3

    Dragon Quest 8

    Fatal Frame 2

Haunting Ground (I believe this one has become quite expensive)

    Kingdom Hearts

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence (Get Subsistence NOT Snake Eater)

    Resident Evil 4

Silent Hill 3 (I'm in the minority, but I like 3 more than 2)

    Time Splitters 2
  • The GTA games and Rumble Racing were some of my favorites back in the day, also WWE Smackdown Here Comes the Pain and the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and 4 and Tony Hawks Underground 1 and 2 and Tony Hawks American Wasteland are gens
  • Hero's of Might and Magic; Quest for the Dragon-bone staff

Always was one of my favourites but does not appear to be too well known
  • Fatal Frame 1, 2, 3

    Silent Hill 2, 3, 4

Resident Evil 4, Code Veronica: X

    Obscure

    Super Monkey Ball Deluxe

    Shadow of the Colossus

    Dragon Quest VIII

    Devil May Cry
  • An NES.

Just joking with ya... enjoy your PS2.
  • Ape Escape 2 and 3
  • GOD HAND is really all you need
  • I really need to step my PS1/PS2 game up.....I think the thing is I don't know any games other than RPG for those systems.
  • Lots of fantastic stuff out there. Ape escape 3, the sly Cooper series, god of war series, gradius v, Tony hawk series, ATV off road fury, devil may cry, guitar hero. I've got like twenty commons im getting rid of, send me a PM if your interested
  • The trilogy of timesplitters! A great multiplayer game
  • Jamesrobot pretty much hit the nail on the head.

You'll never play another game like Mr. Mosquito.
  • Lots of good ones already listed. Adding Gradius V, Okami, and GTA 3/Vice City.

I gotta play that Mr. Mosquito!

    Flipnic

    Blood Will Tell

    Nightshade

    Darkwatch

    Dual Hearts

    The Thing

    Frequency/Amplitude

    Ghosthunter

    Mark of Kri

    Rise of Kasai

    Disaster Report/Raw Danger

    Splashdown

    Tokyo Xtreme Racer

    Trapt

    XIII

    Urban Chaos
  • Ico alone is worth getting a PS2 for, but there are many other great games.

    007 Agent Under Fire

    Nightfire 007

    Medal of Honor Frontline

    Medal of Honor Rising Sun

Call of Duty Finest Hour (This is what COD should still be today)

    MGS2

    MGS3

    Shadow of the Colossus

    Gran Turismo 3 & 4

    Any of the GTA games

    Tomb Raider Anniversary

    Tomb Raider Legend

God of War I & II

    Dark Cloud I & II

    Katamari Damacy

    Metal Slug Anthology

    Tourist Trophy

    Twisted Metal Black

NASCAR Thunder 2002 (This might seem like a random suggestion, but if you are into NASCAR in any way, this is the best NASCAR video game ever made)
  • I forgot to mention don't overlook the PS1 games! I'm getting my lineup caught up on that even as we speak!
  • Has nobody said Ratchet & Clank yet? Because you should get that whole series.

Also, I like Jak $ Daxter, but I wasn't big on any of the sequels.
  • Im not interested in original Playstation games since I already have a good small amount I still have from the past decade or so.

Im just concentrating on buying old Playstation 2 games to get for my Playstation 2 console.

Plus Im really not into Jak and Dexter games.

I already have Metal Gear Solid 2 and Final Fantasy XII so they're off my to buy list.
  • Destroy All Humans I would love to have right at the moment right now and I thought the first Destroy All Humans game was fun and weird when my youngest brother had his own Playstation 2 game collection.

But then I got bored with Destroy All Humans where I was getting tired of zapping the humans to collect brain matter or whatever.

I just want my own personal favorite games that I want.

By the way for Resident Evil Outbreak which is better, the original game or the Outbreak File 2 which has more "extra" stuff in it?

I may be mistaken but from what I remember, it's basically the exact same game, just different levels.

  • just "newer" extra levels pretty much. Doesnt matter anyway since im going to buy either version of Resident Evil Outbreak so I can play the darn game
