Anyone else stuck on Owlia?

this game is great but I'm stuck in level 2 at the 2 blocks of ice I've bombed them from every direction, can't seem to figure out if you can bomb them at the same time. Feel like this is easy but I'm missing something lol

  • hybrid was in chat last night talking about being stuck. If memory serves, he said level 2 as well. Gosh, I need to find time to play this.

He was stuck trying to find the 2nd key.

I think Dan is talking about the first key (which I didn't get around to finding yet, either).

The room with the two blocks of ice is suspicous looking enough (with the unique bombable blocks) that it feels like it's the place it should show up.

That, and the blocks make a "bad" sound when you bomb them, implying that there is something other thing you could do that would make a "happy" sound.

But other than blowing them both up in different orders, I haven't dug around for other clues in the dungeon yet.

Whatever it is, it isn't simply an issue of ordering.

  • Lol yeah tried for like an hour running back and fourth. Feel like I missed something simple
  • Hopefully it's just something simple that's easy to miss.

Tracking states that my copy's waiting for me at home. Can't wait to play!
  • If memory serves, it has something to do with the mechanic of having the owl shoot out and then carry the bomb back towards you, instead of dropping it off. Not sure how much of a hint you're looking for. The booklet mentions something to that effect. (Beat it a few days ago btw  ).

There is somebody you run into in the ice overworld that repeats the same.

  • Ha, I've been grasping at straws at various points already, but haven't gotten completely stuck yet. Just beat the first temple and am in the tundra now. The game is stellar! You can really see how much work went into this one. Love it.
  • I've thrown the owl at the wall and run around with the bomb to various points around the ice blocks and when I stop the owl drops it in front of me.
  • the first key is kinda tough to get but possible you have to have both bombs explode at the same time breaking the ice simultaneously here's how i did it

move to the first one toss your owl while facing the wall over the ice move in front of the block as the owl returns then when it does throw the owl at the other side it may take a few tries but it will work eventually

on an unrelated note i found a glitch password it freezes up when you confirm it

  • Nice see I thought you had to explode 2 bombs at once, tried a few different ways just before I quit playing last night. Great game though for sure.
  • Ha i was stuck at the exact same point
  • I figured out the first key with the 2 snow rocks you blow up but now I can't find the second key, I've looked everywhere and have no idea what to do
  • There's a room with three different enemies in it thats where the key is.
  • Just wait till you guys get to the two puzzles I struggled for an hour or two with on the final dungeon. I swear I had the right notes but I couldn't match them up with the puzzle. Got them mostly with luck.
  • Ohhhh I need a damn walkthrough for this game! Now I remember what it was like back in the late 80's when you were screwed unless your mom would buy you Nintendo Power
  • I got stuck in the second dungeon, but the rest of the game seemed fair. I took notes while I played through it, so here's a rough guide in case anybody gets frustrated at some point. (Highlight the text to read it.)

I also put this information on GameFAQs: http://www.gamefaqs.com/nes/194045-the-legends-of-owlia/faqs/73690

    Forest:

Progress west will be blocked until you stand south of a tree in the southeast corner of this map, summoning the white owl. (I was stuck here for a while.)

    First Dungeon (Forest):

Key 1: Hit (rush) the anglerfish (creature with circle of light in front of it) when its light is showing a key in the dirt.

Key 2: Hit both anglerfish quickly when they are both highlighting the key in the dirt.

    Second Dungeon (Tundra):

Key 1. Found in a room with a jellyfish, an urchin, and an eel that is partially hiding in the east wall. Kill the jellyfish, kill the urchin with a bomb, then kill the eel last. (If you kill the eel before the urchin, the key will not appear.)

Key 2. Room with 2 ice blocks. Throw your bomb owl at the wall and quickly move next to an ice block before the owl returns; when the owl reaches you, it will drop a bomb at your feet- immediately throw a second bomb across to the other ice block. Because dropping a bomb at your feet delays its timer slightly, the two bombs will detonate almost at the same time, which is what is required to get this key. (video guide)

    Third Dungeon (Caves):

Tip: In the south west corner of the exterior map is a cave with a person inside who tells you two orders that you must remember.

Key 1. Stop three anglerfish in the correct locations. If your owl is holding up the lantern, you can still reach them with your sword.

Key 2. Touch the bottom of the four pillars in the order given by the person from the cave (1, 4, 2, 3).

Key 3. Touch the bottom of the four pillars in the other order from the cave (4, 3, 1, 2).

    Fourth Dungeon (Island):

Tip: You can fetch gold from the purple clam enemies.

Key 1. A room with 6 buttons. Use the carry ability to jump between them, and try to push all buttons down. Some buttons will make other buttons pop up. Pay attention to this, and with persistence all of them will be pushed down and the key will appear.

Key 2. Four pillars like the previous dungeon, but arranged differently. Use the first code from before (1, 4, 2, 3), but number the pillars as "1, 2" in the top row, and "3, 4" in the bottom row.

Key 3. A room with 8 buttons. Again, use the carry ability and push them all down.

    Fifth Dungeon (Docks):

    No keys.

    Sixth Dungeon (Temple):

Key 1. In the first room there are four owls in the corners. Use the homing attack to change their colours according to the book from the library at the beginning of the game. "Red, Yellow, Purple, Pink".

Key 2. Room with 8 buttons. Just keep pushing them until they all stay down.

    Key 3. Four pillars, order 1, 4, 2, 3.

Key 4. Four owls in a diamond pattern. You will need to use bombs (3) to reach the rearmost owl, but the rest can be hit with the rush attack. Again, colours according to the book, in this case "Red, Purple, Pink, Yellow", in a North, West, East, South arrangement.
