  • Has anyone ever assessed the rarity of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time Demo Not for Resale Cart?

This one rarely if ever pops up, the last discussion on it here was from 2008.

It hasn't been hard to find lately.  2 up now, with plenty of completed sales in the $100-$140 range on eBay

  • Do you think rare games like Pieces, and War 2410 are due to skyrocket in price soon?

It could be a regional thing on my end, but I never found it once and had to buy it online. I also don't recall it getting much magazine press and no one talks about it. It does not seem to be quite as rare is War 2410 though IMO.

  • War 2410 a 9? Besides aerofighters? Ive seen so many of this game sealed... I disagree on that.

I dont know how "rare" it is because i have seen lots of copies and ignored taking a close look like cib and loose.

I'd definitely remove Super Buster Bros (I ranked that one a 5) I also ranked Sink or Swim a 6 but I can see the debate on that one.

I would put War 2410 as a 9, alongside AeroFighters

I'd think Time Trax isn't as rare, its a 6 at best. Sink or Swim is a 7 or 8, in my mind.

No, the genres are too niche

I dont think genres matter anymore. Collector hype/demand/rarity drives more. Alot of meh snes games are expensive. If something is legitimately rarer it can eaaily go way up in price. Like on nes. Jimmy connors tennis is a 100 game. Jimmy freakin connors!!! Doubled in price pretty quickly. Legitimately rare

Oh I completely agree in that it will eventually happen, just not sure if its there yet.  Still feel there are a number of more prominent titles that more ripe for explosion

Interesting. I'd have thought it was common since he was such a popular fishing tv show host in the 90s. Its actually sort of fun as far as 2d fishing games go!

Well I don't think it is very likely there were too many printed, as it was a later release (1995) fishing game by a publisher (American Sammy) that wasn't particularly prolific on the SNES. (best known for YS III, but also brought us Football Fury and Battle Blaze, both of which are fairly uncommon as well). That being said, for all those same reasons it's pretty much just another one of those games nobody cares about or really wants unless they're trying to complete a set, so there very well may be stacks of them somewhere sitting in a common pile...

There are probably quite a few sealed copies out there too because I know I have a few of them

Here's a thread from a few years ago about the game having both a Made in Japan and Made in Mexico print run.

  • Here's another quirk I just noticed.  There is a grand total of 5 R4s right now...
    Brain Lord 4 4 4
    Death and Return of Superman, The 4 4 3   5 5 5
    EarthBound 4 6 6
    FIFA Soccer '97 4 5 5   6 6 6
    Mega Man 7 4 4 4   6 6 6

I had Brain Lord and Superman bumped up from 1s in the past, which means there was only 3 for awhile

And that's the problem with these kinds of threads in a nutshell, the sort of "reseller/horder" effect it can have on people looking to make a buck from the hobby, or scrambling to grab things before a price spike (and thus creating a price spike by doing so).

The only reason I'm chiming in (TBH) is because I have a ton of what I'd consider the "closet rares" out of the way already, (stuff like Steel Talons, Air Cavalry + Relief Pitcher immediately spring to mind. Crappy low print run games by half-assed developers). There's been a few others mentioned in this thread that I'd also consider in that vein, and hopefully the collectors (and not the full on resellers) are the ones paying attention.

There's no way to really slice it; for the legit guys out there who're going for a set, these kinds of threads can be both a blessing and a curse.

When I joined here, there were no 4s at all and then someone added a few and moved a bunch of R7s to R1s. lol

I have my CIB set minus just one or 2 loose carts, but I still enjoy collecting and  looking for upgrades, variants, etc. and don't believe in playing into these kinds of hype threads even if I have something I think is undervalued

I realize what you guys are saying.  Having something out there that accurately captures these numbers could prove an opportunity cost to certain people who know about very specific super-obscure titles.  But it's 2016.  If Jimmy Houston truly is under-valued, people have had decades to take advantage of it.  If we don't want accurate numbers then the system is worthless and NA should remove these tables from their database.

I personally love that the NES numbers have some actual real-world use.  I use them all the time when digging through stacks of commons.

Bassin's Black Bass seems more common than Great Waldo.

New Horizons has always been one that I never had a hard time finding.

One left of that War 2410 on eBay    I was surprised to see though that there's only been one listed per month pretty much for as far back as eBay completed listings go.  Never realized it was so uncommon.

It hasn't been hard to find lately.  2 up now, with plenty of completed sales in the $100-$140 range on eBay

I think the only thing stopping me from buying it is that I know nothing about this cartridge, since noone on the internet seems to talk about it. Does anyone know if the not for resale cartridge is still the full game, but just made for the kiosk (thus it's on demo and not for resale)? I'd buy instantly if I knew.

All the SNES NFR games are identical to the retail versions.  Only diff is the label.

Hmmmm, I wonder if it's worth it then. $140 is a lot to clunk down for the same game as TMNTIV. A demo is a cool collector's piece though. I wonder if there's any chance these demos will snowball in value..

Most of the SNES NFR carts have remained flat for the last few years, oddly the only ones that have seemed to have gone up are TMNT and killer instinct.
