Sega Genesis Console w/ 80 preloaded games
So it looks like Sega is trying to one up Nintendo. 80 games preloaded and plays original carts. However, no HDMI, just composite.

Isn't this model already out in the states?
Might be. If it is, I haven't seen it anywhere. It's nice to have so many games and play original carts but c'mon, it's 2016, they really should've added HDMI output.
Since they still aren't even adding an HDMI port, it's doubtful they are putting much effort into this.
I am mega-hyped about Sonic Mania though.
It's just one of the AT Games emulators. They've been putting these out for years now. Not recommended.
The article states it's not an emulator. I don't know anything about them so I knew smarter minds around here probably know better.

Yes, me too. Re-imagined levels from Sonic 1-3, CD, and Knuckles plus all new levels in a new 2D game. You can play as Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles. It looks like it has potential.
These suck and have been out forever

Well, judging from your article, it doesn't appear as though they've changed anything this go around. Every year they just seem to change the game line up, but leave the hardware untouched. Here is a fairly comprehensive review of the hardware on a previous 80 games release.

Thank you profholt82. It looks like I'll be avoiding this but definitely splurging on the mini NES.
While no hdmi is provided, they make up with adding a cartridge slot.
While coming with crappy wireless controllers, they make up with adding original controller ports.
Still wouldn't recommend if the hardware has yet to be unchanged.
Seriously, OP, these are ancient for plug n plays.
They would have to make some serious improvements from their last design for me to be hyped about this.

Sonic Mania looks SOOO good!
EDIT: I'm not even all that hyped about the Mini. AVS all the way for me.

Isn't the AVS going to run around $180? Pros being that it will play ALL NES games and have online high scores. Cons being the price itself compared to the $60 mini NES. I think the casual gamers and collectors will buy the mini NES while AVS is more geared towards hardcore collectors. It really just depends on what you're looking for.

Yeah, that's cool. AVS looks awesome. I'm hyped about the Mini mainly just because I'm hyped to see the original NES on store shelves again. I don't plan on buying one.
In fact, the more I see what's happening with the competition, the more I feel the Retron 5 and Retro Freak were good investments (for those who bought in). They seem to sit in the middle of the pros and cons of everything else. I'm very happy with my original consoles, and an HDMI console for my HDTV, especially when I want to see and hear games in crisp HD or record good footage.

That's going to be the primary use of my AVS, as well. I love my toaster, and don't want to mod it, but the composite output looks awful on a large HD display. The AVS is most likely going to be the way I capture NES footage from now on.
It still makes up in other areas.

Except that, in most areas, you can get a real Genesis/MegaDrive for what they're asking for the crappy clone systems (or less!). And even if you snag a Genesis/MegaDrive model with one of the lower end audio chips, the sound is still head and shoulders above the crappy clone machine! The only thing the clone systems have going for them is that they come with 80 games on board. If your intent is to get a ton of Genesis/MegaDrive games for little to nothing and don't care what they are, the clone system might be right up your alley. But, if you're looking for an additional system? Go with the real deal and pay the same amount or less than you would for the clone.

I saw a list of games - they come with like 40 actual Genesis titles and another 40 generic titles. Better off just buying the sonic ultimate collection for PS3/360 for a fraction of the cost.

^ This totally. I sell the systems at my store. They're made by Atgames, and while functionally, the games play okay- the sound on them is awful. There are so many better options out there.
My biggest complaint is the packaging. Not very professional if you ask me. They seemed to have ripped some of the custom covers from various searches on Google (Look at the Sonic 2 cover on the box art... ESRB rating T?! Seriously?)

Hey, children under 13 can't safely handle the levels of Xtreme Sonic can unleash!
I wouldn't say this console is bad at all. It probably sells very well in malls and pharmacies. It's targeting the crowd of people who recognize Sonic and want to relieve their childhood memories for a moment or show it off at a party. It's only meant to be played casually. If you can tell the audio is off, you are definitely not in the target demo. If you know the difference between composite and component video, this isn't for you. You guys are in the minority.
Unless they changed something in the system itself, it just looks like a quick cash grab from the Nes mini announcement.
