Best 2 player SNES games

My significant other is starting to get into the SNES I bought her (yahoo!  My ex-wife never really played games).

Any suggestions for good 2 player games to play together?

She likes SMW and I'm going to give TMNT IV a spin.

  • Goof Troop is awesome, so is Zombies Ate My Neighbours.
  • Are you interested in co-op games rather than competitive games?

Knights of the Round is supposed to be another good beat em up.

    Joe & Mac
  • Mario kart, smash TV, Goof troop, NBA jam, final fight 2, donkey Kong country 1 & 2, Kirby super star, street fighter 2 turbo, Bomberman 2, mario all stars, zombies ate my neighbors, sunset riders, pocky and rocky,
  • Secret of Mana

It's also the best game ever.
  • Co-op is preferred.
  • Rampart is like a two player Tetris with combat.
  • Super Smash TV

    Pocky and Rocky

    TMNT IV

    Battletoads Double Dragon

    Super Bomberman 3-5 (SFC)

    Tetris Attack

    Contra III

    Joe and Mac

    Wild Guns

    Rampart

    Tecmo Super Bowl

    Goof Troop

    Brawl Brothers

    DKC 1-3

    Final Fight 2-3

    Fire Striker

    Firepower 2000

    Flintstones Treasure of Sierra Madrock

    Zombies Ate My Neighbors

    Ghoul Patrol

    King of Dragons

    Kirby's Dreamland 3

    Mechwarrior 3050

    Operation Thunderbolt

    Peace Keepers

    Pieces

    Secret of Mana

    Total Carnage

    Super Buster Bros.

    Syndicate

Honestly, these are arguably the best two player games on the system. I had a blast running through Goof Troop a couple years ago with a buddy.

  • Thanks for all the suggestions! Going to have a game day this upcoming weekend so we'll have quite a few options to try.
  • For co-op, Wild Guns, Sunset Riders, TMNT IV, Secret of Mana, Pocky & Rocky, NBA Jam, and Zombies Ate My Neighbors are fantastic.

For taking turns, Donkey Kong Country, SMW, and Super Mario All-Stars are obviously great.

For some competitiveness, NBA Jam (can be co-op or competitive) and Kirby's Avalanche are fun and easy to pickup and play.
  • Sunset Riders, Contra III TMNT IV, Mortal Kombat II, Zombies Ate my Neighbors, etc.
  • Awesome suggestions in here. I'm planning on having a retro-gaming themed party soon, and am compiling lists of good multiplayer games on each of my systems.
  • I didn't know secret of mana was a 2-player game. I've been close to buying it a few times but never pulled the trigger. This will be my next snes purchase...

The AI is only so tunable. It's helpful in some parts to have another human or two. The sequel has this support as well.

  • Joe & Mac 2. I think it's better than the first one.
  • Surprised everyone neglected Super Bomberman (the first one). That had a great 2 player coop when playing adventure mode.
  • Wild guns and turtles In time
