  • I've only played the first one on snes. It's a fantastic game. Didn't know there was a PC engine one. And I just found out there was a Famicom one too
  • What is love?

    Baby, don't hurt me.

  • Yeah, I love it. Used to rent the heck out of 1 and 2. I've got part 1 on SNES. Taito Legends 2 has an earlier game, appears to be an arcade game from the mid 80's. Of course there's Pocky and Rocky with Becky for the GBA. There's a Pocky and Rocky minigame on Furu Furu Park for the Wii. Heavenly Guardian for the PS2 and Wii is a spiritual successor. Good stuff.
  • I have Pocky & Rocky on the SNES. I would love to pick up the sequel, but it's a bit pricey. How's the TG-16 one?

  • Yep pc engine is the best port of the arcade released in Japan in 1986

U.s and Europe got knight boy for the arcade. I might have a real hard time getting the arcade pcb but I'd love to have it.

Also of engine is a lot of fun

Pocky rocky with Becky I didn't like that much but still got it for the collection at some later point when I have more money to burn I'm getting the Super famicom ones and the rest to complete to get all the released pocky rocky games!!!

I know there's tons of great Shmups but the magical wand she has to wipe away certain enemies puts it over the top for top down shooters

Also I prefer snes's first one to the second I love the dash move so much

What's love got to do with it?
  • This is like the 80th Pocky & Rocky thread in a couple months.

Why? Probably because they are awesome games.

Although I didn't know the series from when I was a kid, Pocky & Rocky (SNES) was a welcome surprise when a friend of mine gave me a stack of games a while back.

I want to be in the club...ski.
  • I got this game back in the 90's at a used video game store, and yes, great game. I don't think my sister and I ever beat it but we did get pretty far.... Wish I never sold it.
  • I really like the series, but why is it so hard? (teardrop rolls)
  • Thanks for pointing out the history of the series. I never realized that it went beyond the two SNES titles.

I know, right? You look at it, and the art style and music make you think it will be a pleasant stroll, but no! It's so hard! I made a serious effort once to solo it on easy mode, and I had to stop on the 5th level because it was taking to long and I had to go to something that evening.

No problem! I didn't say it was a bad thing there was a bunch of threads, just pointing it out.

Pcoky & Rocky = Thumbs up.
  • Also also lets see what game is ya'lls favorite mine is going to be pocky rocky 1 on Ames I love the dash
  • The only one of these games I played was the spiritual successor for Wii and PS2 called Heavenly Guardian. If you like Pocky and Rocky, this game was going to be a sequel originally until they were forced to change the title and characters. (at least according to wikipedia). It was really hard as well. I managed to get to the boss rush towards the end before giving up. It's a fairly long game to play in one sitting.
  • I love Pocky & Rocky for SNES. I had the 2nd one for a long time but never did enjoy it as much as the 1st one so I sold it.

I've heard Heavenly Guardian failed to capture the 'magic' and fun of the originals. Hope you get a chance to play Pocky and Rocky on SNES sometime, it's excellent.

I've heard the same actually. I found it at a GameStop and looking at the box art I was thinking cool it's like Pocky and Rocky, so I looked up reviews and that's the general consensus
  • For what it's worth, I had a really great time with Heavenly Guardian having never played the Pocky and Rocky games, so that at least says something about the game being good. If you like Pocky and Rocky, I'd still say check it out if you're interested in it. Don't let a review scare you away from something that interested you before you read it.
