skylanders in 2016 ?

anybody else noticing how cheap skylanders are?  on the gamestop website it says they are selling skylanders for the 3DS brand new for $0.97, along with a bunch of new figures for $0.97. anybody getting these to hang onto or play?  never got into skylanders. might grab a few tomorrow at the gamestop

    Skylanders seems to have just run out of gas. I don't know anyone who has ever been into the franchise. They definitely were seeking to grow the series with the Nintendo partnership for Skylanders Superchargers, but it just never went over with gamers. I feel like the series is basically dead in the water and this sale is probably a manifestation of that.

    A friend and I did the first and only Skylanders-only podcast for about a solid year before getting burned pretty badly by Activision. They pretty much burned their bridges last year when they kept leaking stuff and the backpedaling on it. I hated losing the cards for all figures and stickers for a bunch last cycle, but where they said the Nintendo and Dark characters would be start exclusive then started selling them in their own packs a few months later we were done. The reason they're so cheap now is because of the quantity they produced, expecting that they could just keep the old fan base (which bought all of the starters) and the newer fan base (which bought up all of the exclusive figures in their own packs) on the hook at the same time. Sadly, they ruined the franchise for a lot of folks and their steep nosedive in sales shows it.

    I think the toys-to-life genre is suffering from the same burnout as the musical instrument rhythm genre suffered. Disney Infinity already pulled the plug.
