Good Games for a Long Trip?

So today I'm leaving on a five hour car drive to Maine, and my car has a flip-down TV in the back with a power outlet and all the major hookups on a side panel. I've already figured I'd be bringing my Retron 5 for variety, but I'm not sure which games to bring. I would think no platforming games, since no one wants a bump to lose them a life.

Any suggestions?

  • For long trips like that, I prefer puzzle games, or even some of the smaller platform/puzzle games. As an example, something like Donkey Kong for Game Boy or Mario vs. Donkey Kong for the GBA.
  • If you have any of the Bust A Move games, you'll sink 5 hours into it easily without even realizing it.
  • Just don't bring a Nintendo Wii. I can't see that going well
  • I would probably play an adventure/rpg that I havent been able to get to. Really, even a puzzle game freezing loses progress...

Yeah, its kind of a problem when the sensor's bigger than the screen.

I was just thinking the driver might not want a Wii remote flying into their skull

To answer your question though I think an RPG would be good. 5 hours is plenty of time to make some progress
  • I always found puzzle games to be the best for travel. Fire N Ice was a life saver for me on a trip last year
  • I'd say RPG or adventure game would be your best bet. A five hour start on the game is pretty solid, and I'm assuming you'll be driving back, which means you'll have 10 hours of playtime.
  • Just be careful while using auto-pilot....

I would probably pick.... SNES or 64?

    Maybe SMW, Mario kart....

That seems dangerous. You could goad the driver into driving like in the game.

  • Rpg... Less precise actions on such a small screen?

Could get great work done on a turn based game like chrono trigger
  • I know I'm late to the party on the whole God of War train but I put in a good couple hours on my last trip playing it. Pretty easy to pick up and play, combat is fun hack and slash with combos, there is a bit of puzzle solving but nothing too taxing. The game is always moving forward so you never feel lost, and you get new skills and areas all the time. It made time fly.
  • Tetris. End of your search. You're welcome!
  • Forgot to post this when I left, but I ended up brining my ps2 with a few final fantasy games and a few others (including coincidentally god of war), and a gameboy color with pokemon pinball and tetris. Made some pretty good progress, but then I realized it was overheating in the sun so I got a chance to play pokemon pinball and actually beat the blue stage. Still have 95 miles to go, maybe I'll beat the red stage

Haha, yeah, maybe. Might give the players a little bit of motion sickness, too.

  • pokemon is my go to for car rides.
  • Dont play anything. Enjoy the scenery.

    This.

It's all about handheld RPG stuff on long rides for me!
