does anyone else regret buying wii U

i got a wii U 8gb white a few years ago brand new. was really excited to get it, but from the get go it has been underwhelming.  seems like there is just not that many quality games for it.  only ones that come to mind are mario kart 8, super smash bros, mario 3d land.  and they are expensive at $59.99 each, why the $10 price hike especially if you remove the game booklets from the cases and put it all online.  also seems like the wii u controller with the screen drains its battery fast.  probably only played the thing 20 times or so about 30 minutes a pop each time, over the course of owning it for 2 years.  feels like the original Wii was a stronger console, the wii U was just riding the tailwinds of the Wii's success and was a lazy move by nintendo to pump out something just different enough to justify being bought.

  • no the wii u is great. it has a stacked library of great first party games. not the deepest library of all time but it can hold its own.

i do agree with you on the manuals tho.

but pick up pikmin 3, its under $20 now and is a masterpiece. its a short game but great.
  • Nope. It has its flaws to be sure, but there have been enough quality titles to justify the purchase.
  • I never understood the complaints like "there doesn't seem to be that many quality games for it", if you own more than two consoles (and I'd be hard pressed to find someone here who doesn't). How many games warrant a console purchase? For me it's pretty much one I consider worth playing. Wii U has many, I still own more games for Wii U than for PS4...

Out of curiosity, how many must play games did you have for original Wii and what were those?
  • I'm underwhelmed. I didn't buy it new, though, and I got the Wind Waker edition which looks nice with my Zelda collection, so I don't regret it. But speaking of playability, there are some solid titles. Mainly the ones you mentioned. I've spent more time playing remakes of GC titles on my WiiU then actual WiiU titles. And now that Breath of the Wild, which is what I got the system for, is getting released on the NX, too, part of me feels done on both sides. But it's Nintendo, and I'll get done again if I know myself.
  • Love it ao much. Easily my favorite purchase video game wise as an adult

Fantastic single and unbelievable multiplay games

let me know if you want some r commendations bud. Ive probably played through 30 games and logged serious hours on 50 or 60

  • Nah. I neglect it a lot, but not for lack of games to play. It's my ace in the hole if I don't have the urge to play either my PS4 and NES at the same time.
  • Don't regret it at all.
  • I regret not buying one. Maybe i can change that soon.
  • Nope, ton of good games for it. Seems like you just arent paying attention
  • Nope, got my money's worth for sure. Playing DK Tropical Freeze right now actually.
  • I got my money's worth in play time with Smash and Mario Maker alone, still have a stash of about 15 more games I barely touched because I keep going back to those two
  • Not at all. I get more fun out of my WIIU than my ps4.
  • I've been pleased with it. Honestly, I haven't spent much time playing most of my games, save for Mario 3D World and MK8, but I also haven't been playing much modern stuff at all lately. Still need to get a few staples like Mario Maker. I like it, though. Solid system.

I'm with the people who say the library is nice. I only need a few games to warrant a system; that's all I had for the original Wii for years.
  • I still need to pick one up at some point. Mario Maker, Xenoblade, and a few other titles seem like they'd be worth it. Just need to wait the usually amount of time before taking the plunge (a decade?).
  • I haven't bought one yet, but have been itching to buy one greatly lately. I guess I'll wait some more until the price drops. Right now, I can't justify buying one based on reviews and forum talk.

Fantastic bud!  I wish i could play that all over for first time.  So good honestlg one of my top 3 platformers all time

  • Yes, but it's my own fault as I haven't used it outside of about 20 minutes on Mario 3D
  • I'm hoping to get one for cheap enough twith the titles I want to play. Mario and DK in HD will be good enough for me.
  • No, it's just money. Would you rather stare at $300 or play a Wii u?
  • if you plan on buying new games why in the world are you spending 60 plus tax each.

Best Buy Gamer Unlocked. 30 bucks for a 2 year subscription. You get 20 percent off on all new titles. Me and a friend split the subscription and share it. So 15 bucks. Ive saved hundreds. Its a no brainer.
  • My least favorite Nintendo console definitely especially knowing it's pretty much done and nothing exclusive to look forward to. Since the GameCube each console they've put out has been more disappointing than the last. I enjoyed the GameCube but it was no N64. Wii took me a lot of time to warm up to. I hated it for years but in the last year or two I think it was an alright console. Especially compared to Wii U. Yes it has some great exclusive games but hardly any of them I find to be must haves. Had I not blindly bought one at launch in anticipation I would never have bought one seeing how poorly supported it was. I'm genuinely worried about the NX and from the rumors I've heard so far I'm also very confused. It sounds like it will be Wii U part 2.

But back to the topic at hand. Wii U isn't terrible but its the worst Nintendo home console to date. Horrible third party support, some games were just rehashes of old games, some surprises but overall the console was poorly conceived. My Wii U spent more time in a drawer than plugged into my TV. Personal preference of course but Wii U was not very good compared to all other Nintendo consoles.
  • I'd like to play SSB,but can't justify getting one just for one game.
  • I sold mine, but now want to buy one again.
  • I'd like to buy one, but no way am I paying more than 100$ for a console with one good game (Xenoblade X). And for some weird reason, even used ones in bad condition still go above that, despite it being more than four years old now.

Now that I think of it, I've never paid more than 100 for any console ever, even those with tons of good games. I guess that's my price limit with them anyways, heh
  • Not yet, no.
  • I debated for a long time between New 3DS XL or Wii U and ended up going with New 3DS XL. I don't regret it because I've put some serious time into my 3DS games and it's been great for traveling. At the moment, I can only think of about 6-8 games I'd buy for Wii U. In time I might pick a used one up for cheap with some used games to go along with it but for now I'm content. I want to see what the feedback is when NX comes out.
  • No regrets here. It hasgreat games and it got me back into drawing with miiverse which is worth it alone
  • mine is constantly turned on. my wife is a Splatoon addict, I have actually considered getting a 2nd Wii U just so i can play a different game while she's splatooning.

I would say it is the 2nd con sole for the house, and it has probably gotten tied with the NES for hours as far as me playing games on it this past year.
  • I just bought a second Wii U for $30 yesterday.

    No regrets.
