Got one of those retrogen genesis adapters
Been out of Genesis collecting for years now. Got one of these because it was on the cheap, about 12 bucks total. And shelf/apartment space is/was a concern. What kind of games would you guys suggest, I like shooters, platformers, random arcade ports, RPG, strategy. Anything obscure I might not have heard of that's decent? Highly tempted to pick up virtua racing because you can mod the adapter to play it.
Comments
Bio-Hazard Battle
Dr.Robtnik's Mean Bean Machine
NHL 94
Mickey's Castle of Illusion
I assume you already know how great these are:
Gunstar Heroes
Toejam & Earl
ComixZone
Aladdin
Ecco the Dolphin
Contra Hard Corps
Earthworm Jim 1 & 2
Edit: forgot to suggest games, Ristar is one of the best platformers I've ever played. Also can't go wrong with the sonics, and Xmen 2 is pretty good. And comix zone is also great
Compatibility is pretty damned good from what I hear, and heard a lot of reviews say the composite looks better than a real genesis. No idea what does and doesn't work exactly yet other than virtua racing out of the box, but you CAN mod it to get VR running so I'd imagine getting other games going if they don't run wouldn't be impossible either. But yea SMS adapters work out of the box on it. No idea about everdrives and such though.
Edit, you need an SMS adapter just like on a real Genesis though.
And the adapter has region switches for
USA NTSC
Japanese NTSC
Pal Europe
Pal Asia.
I already own 4 genesis systems but... what adapter are you talking about? Link please?

I hear the white sega logo glitch doesn't happen really on TV's made after year 2000 and/or HDTV's or so. So when I get some carts I should be all set to go.

Ooooh. Heh this cart might be worth it just to plug my power base converter into it.

It'll work! But I'm thinking about 3rd party one as they're about the size of a real genny cart and much cheaper for that matter.

Yeah if I didn't already own this gangly monstrousity that would definitely be the way to go.

I do like it having a region switch built in too. Thing makes everything pretty convenient (other than the seperate video out, but I don't care my tv has like...a billion inputs anyway.). And saves me some space.
NES
SNES
Genesis
Gameboy
SMS if I ever get one of the adapters
GBA if I ever get retrobit's GBA to SNES adapter.
The twin itself was 8 bucks total
Genesis adapter 13
Super gameboy was 10
SMS and GBA adapters will be about the most expensive things.
Funny thought. On my FC twin and that adapter, and the Japanese super gameboy I have on the way I could feasibly play, and for a fraction of the price of something like a retron 5.

I've got a Super Retro Trio, cloned GBA adapter, plus vintage Super Game Boy and a Stone Age Gamer SMS Mini. The GBA adapter plays natively through the composite out of the SRT (Svideo works great with SNES and Genesis games; just don't try using the Svideo with NES cartsp or the SNES clone adapters or you'll get horrid black and white picture) but you'll need an external video cable if you try to use it with a real SNES.
That makes the SRT system compatible with everything that plays on the Retron5, with the exception of Game Boy Color.
Warsong
Landstalker
Shove It
Gemfire
Super Battleship (not much replay value but fun on the first playthrough)
Kings Bounty (not for all tastes - one of those games most people really like or really don't like)
Shadowrun

Nice, I will get the GBA and SMS adapters at some point for the twin. it will be up there also.
Air Buster is also a pretty good shooter that I don't hear talked about much.
And every Genesis player would be doing themselves a disservice if they didn't own the Shinobi series:
Revenge of Shinobi
Shadow Dancer
Shinobi 3
...And, of course, Streets of Rage 1, 2 & 3.

That's one of the benefits of the way we went too, we're not completely stuck to HDMI.
However I did experience some instability to the image when it came to white colors when running Sonic (Most people don't, so it was probably a bad retrogen cart I had).
Here's a old vid I made that displays the color instability:
I liked the RetroGen, as far as compatibility, it's waaaayyy better than any of those Atgames things. Especially in the sound department.

Nah it's not the cart actually, some TV's don't like it for some reason or another. I hear on HDTV's or any TV newer than the 2000's you're good to go.

Ah, good to know! I bought my HDTV 10 years ago used, so it falls into that category.

Yeah mine's a rear projection 2006 HDTV so I should be in good shape once I get some genny carts also.

Also just subscribed to your channel. Cool videos man.

Thanks! I've been meeting to get back on track with uploading more content. I mostly like posting up obscure titles, china bootlegs, and promoting homebrew stuff.

I like videos about those things, and of course my choice of gaming, hardware clones. (The on a chip style, I hate those atgames things except for like, the Atari flashback 2. That's the only good AtGames thing.)

I have a Atari Flashback 2 and I also really dig it. Not sure what's special about it in particular but it's just a lot of fun to play on (and it has some pretty good titles, too).

With the flashback 2, you can actually solder on an atari 2600 cartridge slot and play the real cartridges. Can't on any other version.

Really? Did not know about that! I may have to look and see what's involved in that mod. I've no experience with solder but if the job were easy enough, I may have to try it.
