Does Strider play a little "glitchy"?

Haven't given this game a ton of time but it seems pretty fun.

But... it doesn't seem very polished. Plays a little "glitchy", if you know what I'm saying.

Anyone else find this?

Watching some playthrough videos online, it seems similar but hard to really get the feel for it.

The guy doesn't jump right sometimes and transports through pixels a bit.

Like I said, I haven't given it a ton of time, but it seems somewhat fun.

I think I got stuck at a part where I couldn't jump over a gap. That was annoying.

Thoughts?

  • I suspect it was never really finished. It wasn't even released in Japan and is buggy as hell. If there was ever a game in need of an improvement hack, this one is it.  I like it too btw, and think it would have been epic if done right.
  • Its not quite as polished as, oh say...TaleSpin, but its not bad.
  • Ya, that game is so cool except it plays like a crusty old pile of dog shit :/

    It's still ok though.
  • To me it fits right in with Capcoms style at that point. Bionic Commando and this game to me are very similar in how they're programmed but BC is much tighter. After that it was all gravy.
  • I remember liking Strider on the NES, though it was one of my earliest NES games so it's hard to say what I'd think now.

Even the arcade original and Genesis port are known for being pretty glitchy, so maybe it's just a thing with this franchise.
  • It's an OK game, but not great. Hated the ending. Played it again for a short time recently and couldn't get into it. I remember it being glitchy, too... was playing on my laptop and thought it was a ROM issue, but I guess not.

Haha, okay good... it's not just me, then. I took it out of my system and re-cleaned it a few times hoping there was a bad connection or something.

Was most surprised of it's crappiness because it's done by Capcom. But hey... I'm happy they seemingly focussed more resources on some other games.

Well if you compare everything to that top notch grade A piece of Nintendo game meat that is TaleSpin then nothing will seem as good.

Glad to see others find Strider lacking also. Too bad Strider didn't get a bit more time and love or something. Could have been really cool.
  • As a fan of the arcade game, I never could get into the NES one. Being a different game aside, it does feel really clunky to other Capcom games. It's not to say it's a bad game (I don't have enough time into it to judge), but it's not smooth, that's for sure.
