Links awakening "Doghouse glitch"

A couple years ago I read an article explaing the "dog house glitch" or "kennel world". The article stated that there was either weapons, or items available that are not available in the game unless you obtain them from the glitch. I can't find the article, and I can't find any other mentioning of people finding items that were not available. Has anybody ever found something like that and if so what was it?

  • I've read about it. There are many articles on the web about it. There are other ways to enter the glitch world besides through the kennel, but it essentially pseudo-randomizes tile, item, and character values. This means that you can walk through walls and pick-up items early as well as reportedly items that are not otherwise available. It makes the game unstable, though. I'd like to think there's a cool sword you can pickup this way, but I haven't experimented with it myself.
  • My favorite ones were the SSI goldbox games. The C64 one had a few buffer over\underflow issues. You could make your sprite a garbled mess and if you the changed your body you had no head. I remember getting items that were +255 damage so they were instant kills. Great fun. D&D in arcades also had overflows in the name entry that allowed you to make your stats go to super levels
  • Ah yes, I remember reading about this!

I've never seen or investigated it, however.
  • Anything that couldn't be accomplished with the "truck warp?"
  • Here's a pretty good writeup:

Looks like fun. I remember glitching through LTTP on Virtual Console to get triforce and watch the end credits. It is still raining when you appear atop the pyramid after beating the game, LOL!

That's crazy! I love this game--my favorite Zelda by far--and I never knew this. Thanks for posting the writeup!

  • Here's a vid of the glitches (Including the dog house one). As far as certain items to be found there, I'm not sure, but this glitch in question was used to beat the game:

  • That's really neat.
  • Son of a Glitch also did a feature on SML3/WL where Wario could warp down a pipe, then exit level and upon reentry, drop below the screen into a glitch zone that consisted of randomised blocks representing empry locations. But manipulating said contents, the player could open pathwah to the final boss skipping most of the game.
