Lets talk about Trax!

I just played through trax on GB and man it was great! I got the cart not too long ago and eneded up emulating it on my TV. What an imaginative game from HAL Labratories. You drive around as this little tank and blow up the bad guys!

I love seeing these sort of one off games with such interesting mechanics. So I guess the story is that there is some evil dude who uses tanks to take over the city and a tank breaks down that is then repurposed to save the day! The evil dude also builds a giant tank that is harrasing the city in which you blow up at the end?

Anyway this is a really fun game that is beutifully animated though maybe a bit short. There are interesting bosses that are varied and sometimes pretty silly. I also really like the music though its simpler, classic crunchy gameboy music!

Anyway maybe someone with a complete copy and manual scan knows more of the story. Give it a try if you can find a copy or emulate it, it's great fun! For fans of the game I would love to know what you think of it/how you heard about it etc.

  • Yay, someone else gushing over a HAL game! ^_^

Trax is actually one of the last few US HAL games I'm still looking for. Good to know that it's fun.

heck yeah man!!!! Revenge of the gator I've heard might be the best pinball game on the gameboy. HAL games are where it's at!

  • This is a game I want that is a bit difficult to trax down.

    (Sorry...)
  • Why is it that there are so many games on GB that have different publisher variants? Like Trax has HAL and Electrobrain.
  • Love me some trax! Great game, albeit a bit short IMO

Revenge of the 'Gator and Kirby's Pinball Land are both fantastic.

Getting back on Trax: I may pick up this game in a week or two and let it be the end of my HAL collecting for now. Retro game prices are spinning out of control.

  • I discovered this game back in about 2004, and I wish I had my copy still. It isn't expensive, but it just doesn't show up very often. If it comes to it I can just get a pal copy since those are everywhere.

Also it is quite good, but it isn't something to get super hyped over. It's fun, but don't drop more than 20 bucks on it or you'll feel a bit let down. As much as I like the game, I'm in no hurry to pick up a copy at some inflated price.
  • agreed, I bought the only copy at too many games a month or so back and I payed $20 just because I've been looking for it and haven't had one come up locally. I was ready to buy a pal or japanese copy haha
  • I haven't had my copy too long and only played to test it. Just went through it in probably about 20 minutes. Super short but fun.

  • Just played through this one again! Man I love this game. Does anyone have a manual scan? I like to collect manual scans to read, I would really appreciate it!
