OoT Dungeon Order
I was just in my kitchen a few minutes ago thinking about how much I'm enjoying Ocarina of Time 3D (finally got a 2DS and joined the space age). I was immediately reminded of my first time playing OoT back in early '99, and how I inadvertently did the Spirit Temple before the Shadow Temple. At the time, I was unware that most would do Shadow then Spirit.
In all honesty, thinking about it makes me want to go for Spirit before Shadow tonight
This got me thinking; is there anyone else out there that does this? Does anyone try to do other things in an "odd" order in OoT? As I get older, I find myself "mixing it up" a bit in terms of when I collect heart pieces, etc.

My OCD insists that I complete the game in the correct order. I actually never attempted it any other way.
This is a legit response to this. I'm curious to see how many others agree or disagree with this sentiment. I think it's just that I've played it so much, I like to mix it up a bit. Plus, I'm biased toward my first time completing the game
I've played through OOT a bunch of times and it never occurred to me to do Spirit before Shadow. So you get the Lens of Truth and then you're just like "Well, enough of this spooky crap, I'm off to the other side of the map to see what's going on in the desert!"
That's what 11 year old me must have done, lol. I fell in love with the game the day I brought it home. Who knew I was also an experimental little bastard?

11 year old me got the strategy guide and used it step-for-step through the game, which surely tells you Shadow comes first! It's the only game I ever did that for. I'm annoyed with myself but I've played it so many times over and over so even if I "ruined" the first experience I've had plenty of better ones.
Dodongo's Cavern
Jabu-Jabu's Belly
Forest Temple
Fire Temple
Ice Cavern
Water Temple
Bottom of the Well
Shadow Temple
Gerudo Training Ground
Spirit Temple as a child
Spirit Temple as an adult

When I played 3D I know I did the order differently by accident. I was like something is not right here...
In Link to the Pat I would always do the dungeon that gets you the third sword early too
I do that now with modern games. If I can't figure a part out within 10-15 minutes then it's off to Google to look it up. I just don't have the time these days to spend hours exploring or running around looking for an item.... having kids will do that to you

You may have just triggered a flashback; was it the Prima/Brady guide? For some reason, I remember getting it when I was halfway through the Fire Temple; I think that just might be the reasoning as to why I did Spirit first!
EDIT: It was definitely this PRIMA guide! Did you have this one as well?
^_^;;;
Last time I played it, I did all of the temples until I got the item, then left and went to the next. After I had everything I could acquire, I went back to the temples to finish them. This makes the game play different because you can use all of the items in the earlier temples.
This is brilliant.
I wish I could remember more about my very first playthrough. I didn't use guides but I figured it out somehow. The only thing I needed help with was beating Ganon in the last fight. and doing the Biggoron sword because I got too nervous with rushed time sequences.
It always confused me as to why the Spirit Medallion appears before the Shadow one on the pause screen though. Does anyone know if this was ever explained?
Always did the Shadow Temple first, doesn't Sheik or Navi tell you to go to Kakariko Village after you finish the Water Temple?

Navi does indeed start hinting at Kakariko, then the well.
HOWEVER, the Prima Guide does tell you to do Spirit Temple first. I'm fairly certain I followed their orders back in 1999
I never noticed the Spirit medallion before Shadow medallion thing until just now.

I'm wondering if Shadow before Spirit was a late change in the game development and Prima was basing their information on that? It would at least explain why the Shadow Medallion comes after the Spirit on the start screen. I don't know if they got early access to games back then or not so they had time to write out all the guide and print it. I'm assuming they were also the primary source of people doing Spirit before Shadow, because the game keeps urging you to do the Well/Shadow Temple first and I do remember reading people doing Spirit first back in the early 2000s.

You're most likely correct.

This got me thinking; is there anyone else out there that does this? Does anyone try to do other things in an "odd" order in OoT? As I get older, I find myself "mixing it up" a bit in terms of when I collect heart pieces, etc.
Can you still do the dungeons out of order with the newer released OOT?

It's never been an issue for me. I just did it on the 3ds remake.

I'm alwways curious on the little things they changed, there's probably a ton of material online pointing out the differences

You definitely can because I accidently did it for the first time. Or I accidently did the correct order for once. I just know it was different.

THE MEDALLIONS GO IN ORDER YOU GUYS
Hey! So since you're here, are you allowed to use the password system for SNES games? For the NA challenge* of beating every game.
My SNES froze just when i was beating Pocky Rocky 2

Depends. If the game provides them to you in-game, then absolutely yes.
I'd could also make exceptions for games that don't provide them in-game, yet give you unlimited continues. That way you don't have to keep your machine on for days. And as long as the pass doesn't give you any sort of side effect benefit.

I definitely did Spirit first in OoT3DS recently. It's fun getting the mirror shield before going into the Shadow temple.
