Gold Nintendo World Championships Packaging

Now, I know that the grays were made for the competition itself, so there's no reason to believe that it had a "complete" form, however, the golds were for promotion, and since DK Country Competition had some sort of packaging, it makes me wonder what NWC came with... Any thoughts?

  • Weird, I was wondering this exact same thing at work ealier... my job is boring, I really spent like 30 mins wondering what kind of packaging it might have had. That is almost creapy!
  • Creepy indeed! This could probably range from a conglatulatory letter from Nintendo with a subscription sheet to Nintendo Power, to an awesome, never-before-seen box. The world will never know (but how much you wanna bet that Thor has one?).
  • Thor received a grey cart, not a gold image

    50 bucks
  • ^^^ I'll bet a hundred that he doesn't.
  • What? I always thought he got a gold one! ...Why didn't they give him a gold one for winning the whole thing?
  • The story goes that he was lucky to get a cartridge at all (his father convinced the officials to give them out to the contestants). He did end up with a bunch of things for winning though. The gold ones were only used as promo giveaways from Nintendo Power.
  • he got a gold mario trophy, which is more rare than the NWC
  • Yeah, I was informed that the contestants basically weren't told they would be even getting a cart until the semi-finals. It was a last minute thing. They felt it wasn't fair to deprive the kids who were actually competing when the gold carts were being given away already. If they had planned it, I bet they all would have likely been gold.

On that same note.  Did Star fox super weekend have packaging like DK comp?

    I don't believe so
  • I'm sure dreamtr asked the people he bought them from what it came with, ask him. I would think it just came with a mailing envelope and a letter.

I'd think so, because they go hand-and-hand, but as I'm informed, StarFox is slightly rarer, so there's barely no way of confirming this either.

EDIT: I also read somewhere that Thor recalled having "a couple laying around" for the gold carts.

It came with a little card that explained the competition.

Wow. For some reason, my entire life I thought the whole thing was to win a gold cart! That's amazing.

We believed we would win a $10,000 savings bond maturing in the year 2000, 1990 convertable Geo Metro, and a 40" TV.  That was it, that and a gold mario trophy.  Not sure what else Thor and the other 1st place winners got (jeff hansen and robert whiteman).

    2nd - 7th got a $1,000 bond
8th - 30th (everyone else) got a nice big boom box right then at the finals
