72-pin problems

Hey guys, I am replacing some 72-pin connectors for the first time and I can get them in a working but the output on the TV is dark...darker than it should be. I have tried 2 different copies on mario but they are doing the same thing. Anyone know why this would happen?

  • Have you tried another game besides Super Mario Bros?

Have you tried to clean the contacts on the game after that you have inserted it a few times into the new connector? I once cleaned a NES game that i had inserted some times into a new 72-pin connector, and there seemed to be some "dirt" (perhaps some grease or metal stuff, not quite sure what it was) on the contacts on the game. I am not sure if this would help anything though, but maybe it can be worth a try at least (If you havnt already tried it of course)? image
  • Did the NES work correctly before you replaced the 72 pin connector? Sounds to me like a bad capacitor in the video output parts. Could be you zapped something with static when you were working on it. The NES is pretty bullet proof, but enough static can still fry it.
