FFXV UCE - Buy now or..

Don't know how many fellow NA members are looking forward to the launch of FFXV, but pretty much everyone knows that Square Enix launched 30,000 Ultimate Collectors Edition at $270.  Well, I was working during the launch and did not get one so I was thrown on the waiting list.  They did make 10,000 more, but I have yet to recieve my e-mail (though they are still going down the waiting list).  That being said I'm wondering if I should purchase one on eBay.  $270 was already way more than I ever wanna spend on a collectors edition, but I love the series and really want it.  They range from $350-650 on eBay and I don't really want to spend more than $450 on one.  That being said I need some opinions if I should buy before the game launches or after, I've never really missed a pre-order before and I've been thinking this over for a few months now.  Thoughts/Suggestions?

  • I'm watching the game, but doubtful I'll buy anything limited, collector, etc as I'm still wounded from XIII and I played a demo of XV and really wasn't impressed.
  • I remember feeling like this when the Majora's Mask Limited Edition 3ds came out. Toward the end, I was ready to pull the trigger on a scalper's Ebay listing. But I checked religiously every site I could day after day, called Gamestop weekly, and stayed on top of it till I got one. That being said, it didn't really matter that I got one from Gamestop in the end. The ebay prices began to plummet (well, maybe not plummet, but certainly dropped) after the system came out and the hype died down. Just remember: You are not the only one feeling like this right now. The anxiety of a lot of fans is driving the price up right now. There will always be a chance to get it on Ebay, and most likely the price on those will drop after the first few weeks after release. Personally, I'd hold off and wait for the wait list, or keep checking retailers. But in the end, it's all about what you are willing to pay for this edition. No one can decide it for you. But this is part of the reason why we face such high prices in this hobby. A lot of us are willing to pay high prices, and sometimes not completely for the best reasons.
  • I actually really liked the FFXV demo. I won't get the UCE, but I think the LE will be my purchase.
  • I want this game and don't have a PS4 yet , so I'm hoping that they do a either a standard or limited edition PS4 NEO FFXV combo before committing to it.
  • I saw on Xbox Live that pre-orders for the $85 LE version of FFXV are up, but you can't order the regular non-special edition. I'm pretty disappointed by that. XIII burned me, and I have no interest in a "collector's version" of a digital download.
  • I'm in the same boat as you. I'm waiting. It'll more likely go down than up. They might even make more, who knows?
  • I'm for sure gonna wait till the launch and see how the first few days go. The company who made the LE's said they would not be releasing anymore after the additional 10,000 because of the Noctis Play Arts figure requiring so much time/material.
  • Generic FF. I'm skiping it.
  • Seems like a lot of Collectors Editions produced. Personally, I would wait and see if it's restocked orif I could pick it up down the road.
  • I feel the same way. I was at work at the time of preorder and also have not received an email. I have the deluxe edition on preorder and just keep trying to convinve myself i dont need the uce. Im not going to pay ebay prices personally
  • A PS4 version just sold for $700 while two more got listed for over $800. I feel like a similar thing happened with Borderlands 2 and a few other collectors editions. Is there anyway to confirm that someone did pay $700 and that it's not someone just hyping up the prices?
  • Quick update for those who were looking for this. I just got my e-mail the other day and was able to pre-order it. I'm to understand that a lot of my friends are getting their e-mail links to preorder the UCE's as well. Hope you guys get yours
  • I am just going to be getting the regular edition of the game, not only that I don't even want to pay full price for it either. As long as I have waited and how much I want to play this game I just don't know if I want to spend a lot of money on it.

This could potentially be the final nail in the coffin for me and newer FF games.

Already is for me. It's as generic of FF as you could imagine. Picture FF on PS4 in as expectable and as typical of a fashion as possible. There, you are picturing my exact experience with the demo.

I hear ya man......The thing is is that there is no shortage of JRPGs or console style RPGs in general, I have no issues with geting something else.

The non-turn based combat honestly just ruins it for me.

I will still give it a chance though.

Yeah don't take my word for it, I just put it down without any feeling of great anticipation for the final release. Much more excited for the 7 remake.

  • Damn, suprised to hear you guys say that. I think FFXV shows alot of potential for moving the series in the right direction. FF XIII was garbage but from what i've seen of XV it looks fun and fresh. At least it has real dope looking summons vs the fuckin ridable bullshit in XIII. The world is looking pretty beautiful. Looks like they are taking a page out of the Xenoblade book in scope & style which is a good thing if you ask me. Actually been looking forward to it and have this crazy ass edition pre ordered. I was also on the waiting list and got the email about it! Hopefully after 10 years of production Squeenix could manage to make a good Final Fantasy game again! I guess we'll see how it is when it drops! If you havnt checked out the newer TGS trailer give it a view:

  • What do you guys mean you were burnt by FFXIII? There was no collector's edition for that in the states, as far as I know. Am I wrong?

And it's one of my favorite games. Haters gonna hate.

I also enjoyed FF XIII even though that's not the popular opinion. Out of the 10 FF games I've played so far, I'd rank XIII as the 4th or 5th best I've played. For me XIII was better than I, VIII, X-2, and XII. However I'd say VII, X, and perhaps IV (II) and VI (III) are all better than XIII. I still have XIII-2 and Lightning Returns waiting for me to play.

As for XV, I only care about the standard edition of the game because that's what matters to me. Everything else is trivial BS meant to burn a hole in your pocket IMO. While people are blowing hundreds on CEs/LEs, I'll probably spend less than $50 on a used copy in great condition within 2 months of release.

  • I stopped at IX, I have no clue what you guys are talking about  . Once FF goes back to 2D, I'm in!
  • So in other words you're never going to play another FF game again.. for the most part the days of 2D games is gone and aren't coming back.. it's basically something that people need to get over.. while I agree that the graphics don't really matter on a game as long as the story is there.. with the technology that is out now it's just not gonna happen.. back on topic.. while I haven't put much thought into FFXV yet.. im sure once it comes out I'll pick up a copy and play it..

XIII was pretty good for the most part, then again...it had that turn based combat at least.

I put like 100 hours into that sucker so I guess that says it all.

Just reaaallllyyyy don't like the action/hybrid combat stuff.

  • The demos show some promise for 15, though the character design is a little weird, but that's fine.

While I wasn't impressed with X's voice acting, the gameplay is pretty good.  The sidequests alone is worth the $10 that it is now, though I'd find the PS4 version to be the superior version than the PS2, PS3 and Vita version.

FFXII is a different mix in that "what you see is what you fight" and there's no "random" battle.  You could literally go through the game and not fight a single monster (except the bosses).  I think the story is a little weaker, but again the sidequests are really good and enjoyable.  Cheap game as well, though there will be a PS4 release.

FFXIII (all three parts), you'll have to consult with KHAN about it because I know he loves that trilogy.
  • Do the Limited Editions for FF usually sell out? I have it preordered from Best Buy and I'm on the fence about canceling it. I'm probably not going to play it until a few months after release, so I'm debating if its worth paying full price for the game if the steelcase version will still be available (and at a discount) long after release.

Which edition did you pre-order?  The collector's or deluxe?  Usually the collector's are always sold out and never will be at the original selling price.  The deluxe edition may still be around but with the holidays approaching, it may be a crapshoot.  I hope you're also a Gamer's Unlocked member too.  20% off of any game (new, used) is a great deal if you buy a few games here and there.

Sorry, I meant the $90 deluxe version. I am a GCU member, and it's definitely a huge help! I think I'll keep my preorder open just to be on the safe side, I doubt it will ever be significantly cheaper than the price with GCU anyway. Thanks for the response!
