I'm curious about what the B mode is all about; worth a Google, I guess.

You might make top 3 this week, man. Nice score.

Ha, hopefully. I never get complacent, in the rare event of my posting a decent score. Too many bonafied NES sorcerors on this forum. But it's all fun. Last night, I just turned the radio on and had a nice time playing and listening to my local alt rock station.

I want to keep pushing, but in response to your other post, I think a lot of it is definitely randomness. I mean, I've had balls completely escape me a bunch of times. It's disheartening. My latest score was almost entirely achieved on my last ball; it's so tempting to rage quit when I lose a ball with something low like ~3k, but I try to resist.

It sucks for the flippers to go invisible (that was so disorienting), but they come back at 150k, thankfully.

Check out the scores from the 2012 contest.

How did I ever get that score? Must have been some other Krunch

And it only got you participation points. Top 5 cutoff for participation. Ouch.

And even worse yet, I only needed a neglibile amount of points to get 5th. Oh well. I had a lot of 6th place scores back in those days

Having a top 5 was definitely not enough, too much great score falling into the participation. Not to say that participation used to be only 1 tiny point

Yeah, the new scoring system is much better IMO

  • As long as we get better and not 'worser', I'm happy.
  • Score updated a bit. Ugh, I suck so hard at saving Paulina. Didn't save her once in that run, despite many attempts. Not good at that minigame. At all. And I feel like I get worse and worse because when I first started playing this week I was able to do it more. Go figure.
  • I'm only good at saving Paulina in weird streak where I do it like 5 times in a row and after that every time I get there my ball take the exit in no time.

The big/fast points are in the upper playfield anyway
  • *Updated my score by a wee bit.

Been having fun with this one all week.

For whatever the reason, the first time I turn my NES is always my best run.

Unlike Rollerball, where each new run made me feel like I was figuring out the table more/mastering ball movement more.

Both games are great fun. Just wish I could crack "Pinball's" mysterious table.

  • Final score update  107060

  • Fun game, but I'm not having a whole lot of luck figuring it out. Dropping my participation score here, might try for a better one later.

It's fun _and_ infuriating. All too often the the game simply decides to bounce the ball down the side gutters or between the bottom flippers with nothing I can do about it. I played for hours the other night and a high score wasn't happening. I'm getting burnt out on this game and I'm about ready to call it quits.

  • Nevermind.
  • Fun game, tough when the flippers disappear. I think it's a lot more luck based than real pinball when the ball decides to drain

  • Damn! Red sighting!!
  • I just realized I have this cart right on my shelf, and I've NEVER PLAYED IT ONCE!

Perhaps this is a reason to dust off said cart?

Playing seriously for high score can be a frustrating experience because of all those times where you'll lose a ball with nothing you could have done about it, but it is a fun game. I recommend it.

  • This game was an original 3 for me. Christmas morning in 6th grade I got my deluxe set with 3 games : Pinball , DK3 , and Soccer, along with gyromite and duck hunt of course. Always liked the simple challenge this game has.

Also not sure if anyone else noticed but this is the only other game that Mario's original lady Pauline appears in.

  • updated my score ..... had 235k on the first ball then the rest went straight down the chutes without any chance to play them . finished at 251k .... just high enough to make me the first loser   ....  thought for sure i had a 3 - 400 k run going

That's the thing with Pinball. It's equal parts luck and skill, or maybe even more luck than skill. You can be having the run of your life when the game finally decides to send the ball down the side with nothing you can do, but that's how pinball goes. I've been playing the heck out of this game and I'm just not lucking into that great run.

  • This game bugs me but anyway here is my score 137,790

  • Got a updated score  144,360
  • I wonder why noone has done a graphics hack to substitute the the penguins seals and cards for more nintendo type things like super mario or zelda themes ??
  • Right now I'm at 116k on my first ball. I wonder how I'm going to blow it.
  • I have not played much, but I thought participation was 100k. Time to replay later to at least get my 50k.
  • Now I'm at 160k on my first ball and all safeguards still in place. If I blow this game, I'm done.

Now at 213k. I finally lost a life, but I got the safeguards back somehow. Oh man. I need to not blow this run.

Now at 256k with 3 lives left and safeguards still in place. This is going to be it. I can feel it!

And I blew it. Only 317K. That's it. I'm done.

I'm done with this one. With pinball games it takes a lot of time...and you need that lucky run. I just didn't get it. Had more fun playing this one in 2012.

The worst part is you can be well on your way to an incredible run and then the game screws you over.

Playing this for a high score contest is brutal... with so much chance involved.
