  • Gyromite, without ROB.
  • I'll nominate 10 yard fight, and M.U.S.C.L.E.

Have you tried it with R.O.B.?  I have and I found it to be just barely playable with R.O.B. versus manning two controllers on your own.

  • Stack up without the pieces, all the zapper games where you don't have a controller option, obviously.

C64 European owners could play more badass games a few years before like death wish 3 and miami vice, even though they are average at best. Dirty Harry still isn't that bad of game, it just feels somewhat dated for its time. I think it could have been much more interesting game, maybe if they had more time.

Can you imagine walking into a game store in 1990, and still finding new atari 2600 games, nes games like dirty harry and the neo-geo and genesis?

I have that blade runner game cassette, I wouldn't say it's similar or as archaic. I think it was released in 1983. Mine still works lol.

No never used R.O.B. before. I just remember finding Gyromite at a garage sale for 50 cents when I was a kid, not knowing you needed R.O.B. to play it. I figured out that you *can* play it with standard controlelrs but the game is borderline broken.

Definiitely. I played this for the first time ever last weekend (on an emulator, but still). I put about 5 minutes into it and couldn't get off the first screen. What a mess.

10 Yard Fight is the perfect pick-me-up if you feel like beating a game on the hardest difficulty on your first attempt.

Just my opinion, which I think it's an awful game.  But I'm sure there's games I like that most people think are not very good either.  One that comes to mind is Tag Team Wrestling.  I said I felt it was a good game on another thread and had a handful of others tell me it was awful.
  • I've gotten a little flack for saying Golf, what about Baseball? That's a pretty bad one.

    Wait! Which Baseball? This one?

I think that game's pretty good. Might be in my top 5 baseball games on the NES, actually.
  • Bigfoot... stupid controls.
  • Predator blows. You're penalized for grabbing the wrong items, the controls suck, and the menu is poorly programmed.

I know but I still  really like the game  , and it gives you infinite continues based on what I remember, so that should make it more playable. I think it's better than the very similarily designed MSX2 version.

  • shinobi? I feel like it's a great game right up until the helicopter at which point everything falls apart.

the surfing half of t&c. i have never figured out what to do and I've played the game a ton.

color a dinosaur. only takes like 5 minutes for each "color" to fill in.

tmnt tourny. these fighter games don't fare well on the nes.

I'll never go so far as to say it's a "hidden gem" but I actually really liked Dragon's Lair.  It's a puzzle game that presents itself as an incredibly clunky platformer.

I was going to say dirty harry, but its still playable. But my god does it seem outdated for a 1990 game. Seems like a commodore 64 game from 1985.

Watch the ending for Dirty Harry.  That might explain why the rest of the game is so archaic by comparison.
  • Anyway, the only unplayable game I can think of on the NES would be Days of Thunder. I'm sure if I learned it I could play it, but I just don't want to waste that much of my life trying.

Yeah, I sort of like it too, in a strange way.. but when we're talking about a game where the majority of players can't get past the first screen because of the bad controls, it sort of needs a mention I reckoned.

I get where you're coming from man, I just feel like for such a huge movie, the game should have been a bit better than what we got. I used to LOVE this game when I was young just because of what it was supposed to be (lol).

Edit: Computer screwed up and didnt save my comment.

It's "Turn left" That's how to play.

When we were kids, my brother and I actually beat that game. I tried for last year's contest, and couldnt beat the first race.

It's got something to do with doing like the movie, and getting rid of your green car, and driving the other guy's black car. At some point in the game I think you unlock the black car and it's a ton faster(which breaks NASCAR rules by a huge margin).

    Turn left a bit sooner.

Days of thunder is neat if you're used to the 3D graphics on other versions.  The first thing you do when you see it is think "Holy shit, how are they doing this 3D?"  Then you get sad when you realise how stupid you are for thinking it.

We played this for the weekly contests and I couldn't even get participation. Screw this game.

This is one game (like a lot of the Atari 2600 games) where you really do need the manual (and overlays if applicable) or indeed the game is unplayable, even if it's otherwise a fantastic game.  Not saying NES Golf is fantastic mind you but it's pretty darn playable in my book...and really for that game as well as NES Baseball, did any other video game console version of those sports look and/or play better up to that point?
