  • For some reason I can't do rally 42. I just made it there with two credits left and failed again. It's like you need to have the whole thing memorized and know exactly when and where to turn to dodge the blue cars, mines, etc. because there is almost zero room for error. It's so frustrating. This one level makes me wonder how Brock managed to make it to rally 49 on his first time ever playing the game.

    Juuuuuuust missed the roll over.

This most likely will not get me into the top 8, but it might have to do for this week unless I get more time.

    Nice.

If someone has already rolled the score twice then I predict that skinny's score will be 2,200,000 or higher. He's going to grind this until he's grabbed every point that is humanly possible.

Whooooo!!! idk mbd putting the pressure on me!!

the 2 mill mark is pretty good but, yes, The Grinder is up right now seeing how much I can grind out of this thing. Even though it's a turd it suits my style in the contest.
  • Just for kicks, I played around on the original arcade version of Road Blasters, and DAMN! What a difference. It's really unforgiving and brutal. I cruised through most of the NES version with my multiplier sitting at x10. On the arcade version, I couldn't keep it above 2 or 3. The aiming has a larger spread and it's harder to hit the orange cars. NES you can just shoot left, right, and forward.
  • I beat the game, but I still fell around 250k short of Brock and tables. I'm not accurate enough with my shots.

    EDIT:

I took a picture of my score right at the end of level 50, but unfortunately I didn't notice until later that it came out too blurry for the score to be readable. I should have been more careful. But I still got a picture of the winning screen to show that I beat the game.

Rally 49 is slightly difficult because you have to collect almost every fuel orb or you'll fail. The last level is not too bad.

  • How many people in this contest are going to beat the Twin Galaxies record? Lulz.

(Although this is the only Twin Galaxies score that I can find for the game.)

Dunno, I don't recall where I used up my credits on the first run, just that they were all at some point between 31-49.  I know you got in my head for my 2nd run (3rd if you count the one where I beat it), and I DID lose a credit on 42 after choking often and repeatedly

49 is the one where I stumble.  No margin for error.  In fact the only error I recall on my final run is not shooting one of the yellow cars because I think I nitro'd past it, so it must of been holding a required gas powerup

  • Also here's my super obvious tips, mostly because I want you all to keep playing this while I practice the last three games:

    - Don't crash after getting the uzi

    - Don't crash after getting the uzi

    - Don't crash after getting the uzi

When I beat the game, rally 49 was where I finally lost a credit, but then I beat it on my next credit. You have to be careful to collect every orb. I barely squeaked by.

I had to study a Youtube playthrough to memorize the the positioning of the blue cars and mines to get past rally 42. IMO, it's the hardest level in the game, or it's tied with rally 49.

Rallys 43 through 48 are easy, so at least they give you a breather before the game gets tough again.

They're easy unless you blow your multiplier like an idiot trying to machine gun the turrets and then have to get through all of them in a row without being able to fill up your reserve

I may or may not of done that

The missiles and shields are also good to have. All the items are useful, except if you're not careful with the nitro you'll just quickly crash into something, lol.

I don't know if I'll bother to try again. I could keep practicing to get another 200-250k, but it's such a long ass game. I like the game, but it drags on forever.

  • My policy with turrets is to just avoid them and rarely try to shoot them unless I have the uzi. That's probably one reason for why my score isn't quite up to snuff. A really high score probably involves shooting as many turrets as possible because they're the highest scoring enemy but it's so risky.
  • I found a stream of somebody's world record attempt at this game. The attempt ends at rally 42 and the guy had three credits left. Skip to near the end if you want to see what an absolute bastard this level is. I had to memorize a Youtube playthrough to beat it.

I think I'm probably done. Level 30 screwed me twice in a row. I'm actually a big fan of this game but it is a pretty bad port of the arcade.

You're a bad port and people keep playing you! Dingleberry!
  • I do not like this game.  My thumb is sore and I'm terrible at it.

You must have figured out how to get a huge score. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

  • RoadBlaster is new to me, after 2 hours of playing i can only come up with a score of 39,000.  ? How do you build the multiplier?  and what is that "blasted" beeping noise and the icon box, by reserve tank, flashing mean?  i can't figure it out.

multipler = consecutive shots on-point. Successful shots increase the multiplier by 1 (up to 10), and misses decrease it by 1. In other words, take your shots carefully and don't just spam the fire button.

The beeping noise and flashing likely means there are mines nearby

And the uzi is cool because it lets you do rapid fire on enemies without affecting your multiplier.

I feel dirk's pain. I could barely get 30k on my practice runs before I knew how the multiplier works.

Are you using continues? Using all of your continues is within the rules this time.

Thanks for the info guys. That made a world of difference. I will give it another run if I have time this weekend. I didn't know the manuals are on NA. This is a great site
  • Contest isn't even over yet and our top five (which lacks TG style verification but I assume is legit) already destroys the Twin Galaxies top five. Nice scores everyone.

Beat the game on my only attempt!  I have beaten this before but not since I was a kid.  I used one credit on Level 38 and it was disheartening watching an orange fuel orb that I couldn't quite reach fade into the distance.  Also this was a nice way to break in my new AVS!

  • Finally got a minute to sit down and check this one out, unfortunately not one I'd be willing to go a second round on.

Rolled over score on level 32.

You guys are too good. This was my first attempt, not bad. It's a fun game, but I just don't feel like grinding all weekend only to maybe get 7th or 8th.

My score is already higher than the Twin Galaxies record and it will probably get me 7th place.
