...Super Famicom, and the Super Gameboy 2 which was only in Japan, and only functions in an actual super famicom.
...
Other than the insignificant physical fitment lock out that affects every Super Famicom game, what would specifically prevent a Super Game Boy 2 from working on and NTSC-USA Super NES?
No need to get snarky about it. I know there are a handful of Super Famicom cartridges that actually are region locked aside from the plastic pieces, and I just remember reading that the Super Gameboy 2 was one of them. I may have just *gasp* been wrong. : O
As for the OP, you mentioned in another post that you have terrible eyesight, so I can totally understand why you'd want to play on a TV. I didn't mean to come across as rude. If you want the truth, you're perfectly fine with a Super Nintendo and Super Gameboy. I had one as a kid, and played games on both devices, and never actually noticed that they weren't exactly the same speed. I've played it since and while a little noticable, it doesn't change things too drastically.
If you just want to play original GB, the choice between Super Gameboy + SNES and Super Famicom + Super Gameboy 2 boils down to if you think you're going to want to collect SNES/Super Famicom games once you have the System that plays them. If you think you'll cave and start buying SNES games when you don't really want to, get a Super Famicom and stop yourself before it happens.
Of course if you also want GBC, which it sounds like you do from your first post, you're pretty much stuck with the Game Boy Player. Keep in mind that the Super Gameboy is capable of playing the backwards compatable black GBC cartridges, just without as much colour as you'd get on a GBC or GB Player.
If you really want to play the three different libraries on a TV, get a GB Player. It will be expensive, but it's the only way to do it on real hardware.
I wish I could add something else to this thread, but all the suggestions have been said.
I stick to the original Super Game Boy for playing on TV. The speed difference isn't very noticeable, and I really love playing around with the custom colour palette feature.
The Datel Media Launcher lets you play software off an SD card, and the Gameboy Interface replaces the crap ass GB player software with stuff much better for TVs.
+Can use a Gameboy Advance as the controller using a GC to GBA cable.
What? Really? Shit I never knew that
Yep! I'm double-checking all my sources, and it appears to be correct. I've also seen this demonstrated on a few YouTube videos.
Wish I had this stuff to test myself though!
I've got everything I need, just never thought to try it when I get a chance I'll have to check it out
You can also use a second (and third, fourth and fifth) gamecube with a GBA player hooked via that cable to use as a GBA. This lets you play games that would normally use the GBA screen on a second TV. For example pac-man, pac-man played on the TV, the ghosts each used the GBA screen to see. This way everyone can have a TV. I have a CCTV video processor, so I can have one GC on the CRT on my setup, and if I ever get more GBA players, could have all 4 GCs for the ghosts on the LCD.

You piqued my curiosity and I asked. I think your snark detector is giving a false indication
Mine is off the chart!
Anyway, I don't think any Japanese SFC games can tell the difference between an NTSC-Japan and NTSC-USA system.
That was featured right on the back of the box and it's pretty cool
That's pretty well established. It can interact with GameCube software and act as a controller (example: PAC Man Vs). I think it was implied by someone in this thread that you could play *any* GBA game on GB Player with the GBA as a controller. That, I had not heard. I plan to test it though. I have a LOAD of GC / GBA / GB Player stuff I've hardly ever used.
[edit]
It works!
Just tested with Pokémon Yellow. Held Start+Select to boot on link cable with no game in the GBA.
In preparing to play around with this stuff, I'm actually ashamed to be depriving you guys of these. Many of you are far more enthusiastic about Gamecube/GBA/GB Player. I'm the original owner for most of this and I've rarely touched any of it. The Hori controllers have rarely ever been touched. At least one is definitely unused.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is the big one. I'm not 100% sure how 4 swords works like this since I dont know how it's multiplayer works with GBAs. Dakar 2 has an unreleased GBA version of the game on it's disc. I might also be wrong on pac-man using 5 GCs, I'm kind of thinking pac is the one who plays on the GBA and cant remember if the ghosts can.
4 Swords Adventures works like a Wii U game in the sense that the overworld uses the TV shared by all 4 players, but once you enter a house, dungeon or cavern, everyone switches to their GBA system.
In Pac-Man Vs., no you can't use up to 5 Gamecubes, that's ridiculous and impossible. The game works by having the 4 ghost players on the Gamecube while the Pac-Man player uses a GBA. There is no way to split up the ghost players onto multiple GCs. How would you get the GBA working on all 4 GC systems?
Also yes, with enough TVs, Gamecubes, GB Players and GBA Link cables, you can in fact play any GC-GBA linkup game with only TVs (limited by how many GBA systems are allowed to be connected). For 4 Swords Adventures, it wouldn't make much sense though because you would be swapping between TVs often. It kinda defeats the whole purpose of using GBAs as controllers... It also would have been wicked expensive back in the day (both using 4 GC and 1 GC and 4 GBAs)
For a site that has its fair share of Gamecube fans, I find it appalling so many of you don't know anything about the GC-GBA connectivity.
I like my games to be accurate, so I go with original hardware.
If anything, the people who use real carts on emulator hardware are the ones in the wrong. The cartridge is essentially just one ROM file in an obsolete container. There is absolutely no functional difference between a ROM file and an original cartridge. Where do you think the ROM file came from? We all know that software emulation is not the same as original hardware, yes? It is a far better option to use an original console and a flash cart, like an Everdrive.

See, people? Here is your oppressor! Burn him at the stake and be free!
Please note: I don't give a shit either way. I'm just looking for a cheap way to play Gameboy on a TV.
I'm not ashamed of saying I love my retro freak, when it comes to ease of playing games, save states, and playing on big screen, everything is in one place. I still have a CRT tv but I can't find anything about retro freak to complain about.
I know it's not how they were meant to be played, but it's great to be able to start and stop gaming in seconds

How the hell does this thread have over 50 replies, but Game Boy Interface is only mentioned once!
Game Boy Interface is the best way to play GB games on a TV. It is homebrew software using the GameCube Game Boy Player but has enhancements over Nintendo's in-house software.
No need for the pricey GBP boot disc
Plenty of enhancements over original GBP software
Can play all GB/GBC/GBA games
Still using original hardware. The GBP uses original GBA hardware; it is not emulation.

Dude, can you tone it back a bit and not sound like such an ass? I correted myself, i was thinking the ghosts used the GBA, and pac-man used the TV. If if was that way, then yes, it would have been right. You can only use two TVs, not 5, so yea, completely ridiculous. Your whole post seems to be nothing but an insult directed at me, without even bothering to directly quote me. And i wasn't even wrong on anything, I corrected myself before you said anything.
And yet you say it's applling so many don't know anything about GC-GBA connectivity...

That video was fascinating. Unfortunately it doesn't even mention if the Game Boy Interface is something you burn to CD or something you purchase or what. It's awesome that if I can aquire a Game Boy Player base, I don't even need the boot-up disc! That video makes it very clear that the software that came with the Game Boy Player is not very good at all. So much for "accuracy". I wonder how many people have been playing Game Boy Player exclusively all these years and think the dull colors, slowdown, dropped frames, and stutter are normal? This is shocking.

I knew there was a reason we kept you around.
From your breakdown, though, looks like Retron 5 is the way to go. Sorry, purists.
