WORLD OF NINTENDO - G&G Mega Master Club?

Alright NA members, I can find NOTHING About this elusive club, nor anything in NA database or online.

The only thing I can think of "G&G" is Ghosts 'N Goblins. Ive searched my capcom CIB's and have found nothing regarding this "club".

does anyone have any info on its origin? Looks to be 1988ish. Whoever finds out what this elusive club is and has a reference to it, will get a prize image I dont need to know what the item is (I know this) I just took a view of the printing. Still think its odd it says "World of Nintendo" to the right.

Please help me out!

  • damn, if it aint ghosts and goblins, i have no idea, but if it ends up being ghosts and goblins, i'll take a Soccer Black Box image ha ha
  • G&G if I remember right was a partner with the CAPTRON stores, had like a pricing list in gaming mags for new/used/trade value. I just recognize the logo, but I imagine their club probably was someone who often traded/bought with them got some perks. The World of Nintendo thing was any authorized seller of Nintendo products so I'm sure they were and just put that there as a seal of approval more than anything.
  • I did some Google-fu as I just remember I was right about it. Here's a typed out old press release ad for Felix the Cat NES. http://www.thefreelibrary.com/FELIX+THE+CAT+ADAPTS+TO+THE+TIMES;+BEGINS+SEVENTH+DECADE+WITH+LAUNCH...-a012759590 but the important part is: Felix will be available in most national retail stores including Toys R Us; Kay Bee Toy Stores; Lionel Leisure; G & G/Captron and also I did find another reference here at this site: http://www.retromags.com/forums/topic/5747-lots-of-nintendo-power-magazines-guides-1988/ and a ways down you can see: Captron G & G Catalog 1994 (5) - $2 where you can buy the old pricing guide from that dude.

Oh this one will do it too, with a picture:

So it basically was the new/used-bst wing of Captron which was a mall based store that sold video games, and I believe Capcom of all things owned it.  I used to shop there in the NES/SNES era, got my copy of Street Fighter II the day it came out there, also won a $20 gift card for taking 1st in a Gradius 3 high score in 5min contest too.

  • damn no soccer box for me, nice find tanook
  • Soccer box? Were you going to ask him for that? That would be cool if I was into box collecting.
  • I came across this post recently since I was looking to see if I could find any other information or pictures of Captron, but they are hard to come by.  I remember in 88-89 joining club Captron.  I lived in Maryland at the time and they had a setup in Iverson Mall.  I still have my card to this day which I'll post here:

I remember them holding a Gradius III tournament for the supernintendo and I had gotten top score.  Since the other people didn't claim their prizes, I also got on top of a 20$ gift card, a gameboy fanny pack lol and something else I can't remember right now.

Hopefully this helps a little but it's hard to find out anything more about Captron or pictures or anything.  I'll have to go back into my parent's attic next time I visit them to see if I can uncover any pictures of that place.  I know what it looks like in my head, but I'd be curious to see what it really looked like if I were to see a picture now lol.

    Take Care guys
  • Hi folks.

I know this is an ancient thread, but I was googling around for any info/mentions of G&G and found this board (and almost nothing else). I am so excited that someone else remembers this company that I've signed up as a member of the forum just for this thread. In case anyone is curious, here's what I remember about G&G:

I grew up in a smallish town in Northern California, in the East Bay Area, called "Antioch." They built a mall in our town around 1989. I don't know if G&G was there from the beginning but they were there for a couple years in the early 90s.

And it was so cool. Our G&G was a kiosk, but it was surrounded by TV sets that would have an NES (later they might have had a Sega or SNES, too, I can't remember exactly) hooked up, and you'd press a button to cycle through like 4 different games. You could play the game for about 5-10 minutes before the machine would automatically reset. Kids lined up at every set to play. I must have spent hours there trying out new games while my family shopped around the mall. I was only 6-8 years old at the time, so my memory is a little fuzzy. I remember the employees being really nice - I went there to buy a present for for older sister and they recommended getting her Dragon Warrior 3, which is still an AMAZING game, and the worker told us how to do the "make a bunch of party members and sell their stuff, then dump them" trick.

The the "Mega Master Club" was, at least at our local store, a club you could join. I was a member and I think there was some sort of discount coupon you could earn after buying a certain number of games. I got a "totally rad" fanny pack on my birthday with the club logo (as pictured above) in it. I wore that thing everywhere, and I was pretty excited, tonight, to see the photo of it here. Nostalgia!

    Welcome to NA!

If I'm lucky, maybe these will also take you back.

  • That is a sweet fanny pack!
  • That's the one!
  • I think it's strange that Nintendo would make a promo with a second-hand shop, since they typically didn't get revenue from second-hand sales and would want to discourage them. They ACTIVELY discouraged the rental market (sued Blockbuster Video and others).
  • Hey I actually have one that I want to give up. How much would you guys value this at? I can't find any on the market. What's a fair honest price? Its in excellent condition. The print is really good. G&G Mega Master Club world of Nintendo Fanny pack
