Brand New Famicoms & Famicom Disk Writers Found

I don't collect Famicom or have even played one, but I found this to be pretty cool.

UPDATE:

Seems that Yahoo News has a different approach to the story.  This article doesn't include as many pictures, but the story seems more realistic.

  • Same as you, haven't played a Famicom, but that is a neat article. Thanks for sharing.
  • "Found" isn't really accurate, it's something Polygon inserted into their story for some reason. There was no discovery made here, this is just where Nintendo stores some of its stuff. Its beautiful, beautiful new stuff that I want to stick my face in and sniff.
  • That disk writer kiosk is almost a holy grail, but the rest of the systems aren't anything to go crazy over. Did Nintendo just start collecting?
  • Definitely an interesting article. But it's sort of annoying when they say Nintendo "found" this stuff. They make it sound like Nintendo didn't know about it and some people will most likely get excited thinking this stuff might end up on the market. If Nintendo has always known about it, and they've held onto it, they will most likely continue to do so.

Still, I wouldn't mind walking around there just to look.
  • Would love to own those fresh like that......too bad they won't be for sale.
  • I found it hard to believe there was a closer no one knew about since 1986. Nonetheless, these exist and it's exciting to see new vintage stock.
  • *opens new disk system* the bands are still crunchy and broken.
  • Yeah. Stupid, fake angle for the article. But that disk writer is so cool!
  • I play Famicom all the time, it's my favorite NES.
  • Is that the disk writer they let some Japanese TV Show borrow?

    Clickbait.

    THANK you.
  • Even if the article's title and premise are inaccurate, the pictures are dang sweet.

Yep, Nintendo of Japan probably keeps that stuff in the backroom in case they need to roll one out for promotional photoshoots or as museum displays. I blame Natsume for getting people's hopes up that Nintendo will start a fire-sale of old crap on eBay or something.

I have heard that nintendo hoards and most likely have way more.
  • Yahoo! News seems to have a more realistic story. Updated with new links. Thanks Pikkon for the original link!!
  • Damn I'd love to have that Disk Writer kiosk.
