I havent been posting much really not at all lately. Lately Ive found this has turned more into how much money can I get. There seems to be 10 resellers looking to make a buck compared to 1 serious collector actually. All most want to talk about is how much this went for how much more it will be worth in 5 days. Ill pay 50 and sell it to the next guy for 75 then he will sell it for 100. My goodness RC pro am is now worth 50 dollars. man theres no way i would sell one for less. Man XXXX GAME has sold for 400.00 in the past I ll be dammed if I let one sell for 100 dollars I ll buy up every dam one of them before i let that happen. Some want to give me flack about my opinion but when I first started out people were cool about helping eachother out. I traded and fs2 manual to nintendonut for a menace beach box. he got want he wanted at the time i got what i needed. i didnt say hell no if you want this fs2 manual i want the box plus 300 dollars. It was called collecting for fun. People help eachother out and werent worried about Oh I cant trade because my item is worth more than yours. I guess the good old days have passed by and its pretty much a money hobby.
I even see where Dain has had to implement rules for the forum. Collecting is susposed to be a fun activity and this site is a place to share in the experience of collecting. Not a place to come and try to get rich at or go in debt just to say you have something.
As for this threads question. why except for being greedy would anyone want to see people trying to keep the prices high or make them go higher.
I agree with most of you guys. It's the hunt that makes collecting worth it to me. I love finding rare, expensive games out in the wild. I will say this though, if the prices dropped to .50 a cart or something absurd like that, it would take away some of the joy of the hunt for me simply because it would make it less of a "Look what I got for X price!" and more of a simple waiting game. Sometimes I find games I need but I'm not willing to pay the high price for them so the anticipation draws out a little longer and the hunt becomes more fun.
Hell some DS demos have already started breaking in the 300 and 400 range. New gen stuff will be collectible just like old stuff is. Except people will be asking for pics of the disc and how scrachted it is. Has it be resurfaced? Everything made is pretty much collected by someone somewhere. ~~NGD
Forum rules are just to be expected. When you lump hundreds/thousands of people together something must eventually be done.
If you think its now all about the money, turn off BST and Auction Spotlight then check out how much other completely free cool stuff is going on. Free contests for expensive LE carts, gaming contests by nesruler with free prizes, the free ezine, free programming/hacking tutorials, and free proto rom releases. The "good old days" had little to none of those.
Even if you have no money you can still contribute with ezine articles, cornerstone artwork, updating database entries, or gathering info together like the M series data thread. Collecting isn't just about having, its about the responsibility to keep interest and info going. Prices can crash as long as that doesn't mean the items become trash.
