found an incomplete super joy III

I found a super joy III in a thrift store last night but it didn't have the battery pack or an ac adapter. I may have overlooked the ac adapter as I don't know what it looks like-will go back and look again tonight.

first, can someone verify the specs on the ac adapter for me? I think I read it's 9v 350ma center-negative. Is that right? Every other ac adapter I have seems to be center-positive, if I'm reading them correctly.

about the battery pack, it looks like it may have leaked a little and I'm assuming it got thrown out. Is there any replacement/workaround option here? what kind and how many batteries does it take?

I also ran across a post where someone implied the rom board could be removed from the unit and put in a nes cart with the fc adapter. is this right? this would be my preferred choice so I could play the games on a real unit. anybody want to give me a good deal on one of those carts? I haven't had any luck locating one around here :\

  • well I bought a 4xAA battery holder from radio shack and clipped the wires to the terminals (I guessed at + and - terminals). when i powered up I got a big white FH on a black screen.

so, now what? i don't have any famicom carts/boards/adapters to plug in. in reading about these things I saw mention of a switch to choose the cart slot or onboard games. I don't see a switch on my unit and I don't know what the rom would look like so I don't know if it has any games built in or not. advice?

  • I used to sell these things in the mall in Lincoln, Nebraska, so I have a few spares of my own (which are all boxed up and in storage, though.) I did just find one of the power adapters in my spare cable and wiring box, it says: DC 9Vm500mA , and yes, it's center negative. The ones I sold look just like yours, were called Super Joy III, I believe. And yes, it came with a bunch of games built in, and I guess you could also get extra games on a cart that plugged into that famicom slot on the bottom of the unit, but the kiosk owner that I worked with selling these didn't order any of those carts.
