  • Heh, the Berenstain Bears wikipedia page is protected, probably because people kept trying to change the spelling.
  • I think this and Board James show that James Rolfe is great when doing horror-type work. I'd love to see him do a feature length horror or horror-comedy movie someday, he definitely has the skill for it.

Ha, I like the discussion page.

(SOMETHING CHANGED THEY WERE BERENSTEIN BUT NOW THEY NEVER WERE) many other things have also changed from the past and were not recorded in the original way. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.192.110.210 (talk) 09:31, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

While this is no doubt true, we all signed a blood oath swearing we would not discuss this, right after we disembarked from the space ark that saved us from the collapse of the original Earth. PLEASE stick with the oath and drop it. Thanks. - SummerPhDv2.016:09, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

before the AVGN thing took off he did do short horror films. Haven't seen them myself, so not sure how good they are, but he was studying film making. Could be worth a look maybe
  • Ok....so I've falled down the Mendela rabbit hole. And I'm starting to get freaked.

"Luke I am your father" is now "No I am your father"

"If you build it, they will come" is now "If you build it, he will come"

"Life is like a box of chocolates" is now "Life was like a box of chocolates"

"We're gonna need a bigger boat" is now "You're gonna need a bigger boat"

"Interview with a Vampire" or "Interview with the Vampire"?

"Sex in the City" or "Sex and the City"?

    "Chic-fil-a" or "Chick-fil-a"?

The Red Hot Chili Peppers Song "Under the Bridge"

the lyric, "The city I live in, the City of Angels" is now "The city I live in, the City of Angel"

And the one I've heard all my life, Sally Fields "You like me! You REALLY like me!" became "You like me! Right now, you like me!" and her name became Field!

.....how can millions and millions of people all be so collectively wrong? If there is some kind of outside force changing reality as we know it, it's almost like it wants us to notice! I'm gonna go hide under the bed I think...

I know this one has always been this way and there's no parallel dimension because people have annoyed me by getting it wrong since I was a kid. Same thing with "Beam me up Scotty".

Much better episode than his latest ones. That one had some genuinely funny moments, plus the theme is pretty good.

I agree a lot of the recent ones weren't great, but paperboy and mega man games were pretty good I thought

Hmmm. Apparently it was "Luke I am your father" in the 1983 NPR radio adaptation.

How old are you? Just curious if you were born before or after 1977.

  • People swear they saw the Biggs Tatooine scene back in the day, for what that's worth.
  • Seriously this shit is fucking real. Things are absolutely changing! I was blind to it at first but it's genuinely true!

    WTF

I know Chic-fil-A was not Chick-fil-A. I am so positive I would put anything on the line. I'm CERTAIN this has changed.

The dozens and dozens of newspaper clippings all side with what I'm POSITIVE was once the case...

My friends and I used to eat there a lot at the mall 10-12 years ago and we used to call it "Sheek-Fill-Ay"

There's no way we would have jokingly pronounced it like that had it been "Chick" this whole time!

That fucking K was NOT there before.

I really don't like this at all....

And then the guy who made the video with these logos....he's right. I swear I used to remember the A in Kia and Samsung being normal. Not the upside down "V" that it has "always been".

I never wanted to even become slightly aware of any of this. This is just not at all what I need

I feel like the very fabrics of my reality are being blown apart! I've had that "Sally Fields" feeling my whole life,

but never had a proper term for it. Mandela effect! Fucking incredible stuff.
  • You alright there bud?
  • Nope. No more internet for this guy today.

Back then I took the spelling for granted, there wasn't anything strange about Berenstein, it's a very real name, it just had a funny bear and beer stein pun to it.

But Berenstain? That is so wrong, it looks like it's misspelled. It's not even a proper last name. Berenstein is very German/Jewish.

The last thing I was expecting from AVGN was Berenstein Bears. This is easily his best work as of late, it was such a genuinely entertaining and funny halloween episode. The whole conspiracy angle was the cherry on the cake.

I remember it that way too but I googled up the first print of the 1962 book and its Berenstain there, so it seems it's always been Berenstain
  • Right from the mouth of Stan Berenstain, Jr.

    http://news.nationalpost.com/arts/its-berenstain-like-coffee-stain-or-jello-stain-one-berenstain-bears-author-rejects-parallel-universe-theory

Q: So, first tell me how you pronounce your last name.

A: It’s Ber-en-stain, like coffee stain or Jell-O stain or wine stain or whatever you want.

Q: So how did the Berenstain name come to be? Your website mentions that the spelling was an immigration officer’s attempt at phonetically spelling “an accented version of the traditional Jewish name ‘Bernstein'”?

A: [My great-grandparents] were Ukrainian Jews who emigrated [to the U.S.] in the late 19th century, fleeing the pogroms and persecution of Jews in Ukraine at that time. And they pronounced the name with a Slavic-coloured pronunciation. They pronounced it something like “Ber’nsheytn.” The family tradition was simply that [Berenstain] was an attempt to phonetically spell that particular pronunciation of the name.

So it looks like you actually do pronounce it BerenstAin.

That's what the "Mandela Effect" is supposed to be though, literally all physical evidence of "Berenstein" in the reality we are currently in has been replaced by "Berenstain" under the theory. In the new reality we are currently in, you will not find a genuine picture of "Berenstein", yet millions of people still have the memory of the past reality.

This is what I'm talking about with Sally Fields. The quote was "You like me! You really like me!" Millions of people remember it. I remember my Mom used to use this line all the time when I was a kid.

This video below shows the line parodied dozens of times over the years.

But now, according to the Mandela Effect, we are in a new reality where she said "You like me, right now, you like me!" which is not the line millions of people remember, and her name is now Sally Field, and always has been.

The actual footage of "You like me, you REALLY like me" would not be obtainable in this reality.

Again, no more internet for me today. I've got that "can't unsee what I've seen and can't unhear what I've heard" feeling.

I remember it as Looney Toons as well, not always Looney Tunes

  • Cracked.com did an article a little while ago about stuff like that, though they don't actually reference the Mandela effect:

  • AVGN sure went above and beyond on this episode. He really paid close attention to detail. I always remembered it Stein so it messed me up too lol. I hope he keeps making these awesome AVGN episodes that connect to other ones.

I also dig his movie reviews. Even if you're turned off by Rolfe's humor you should check them out. You'd expect him to just be making fun of bad movies like he does with video games, but he's being himself rather than playing a character. He tries to be respectful and positive even when reviewing "bad" movies.

Yeah he may be a little too respectful in those reviews.  He made Frankenhooker sound like it was worth watching.  But it's a bad Skinemax movie at best.

It's still nice to see someone who has a genuine affection for the material and isn't just trying to be funny. It's such a contrast to his AVGN persona.

His recent video on a script for an unreleased 1940s horror movie is interesting stuff.

How about the evil Queen from Snow White movie saying "Magic Mirror" instead of "Mirror Mirror" or Henry the VIII not holding a turkey leg in a painting?

Or the chinese man who blocked tanks on Changan Ave on Tianamen Sq that DIDN'T get ran over by them?

Or... Mandela NOT dieing in prison.

  • It was actually an interesting one, and I'm not even a fan of AVGN. I did what Trj22487 did as well and looked up more of them  . The one that got me was "We are the champions" by Queen NOT ending with "of the world". I've noticed this before because whenever I sing along with the song, I sing "of the world" and they don't. Another one that raised my brows was "Hello Clarice" not being said Silence of the Lambs. Though, I am probably just remembering Hannibal at this point.

EDIT: I should mention that I do not buy into the alternate realities and all of the mess that this effect implies. Rather, I would have to assume it's our brain creating false memories based on "filling in the blanks". We call them "Berenstein" Bears enough, our brain sees Berenstein. We say "of the world" enough, we sing of the world. False memories are nothing new. Just read up on the memories of eye witnesses and how easily they can be distorted. Our brains are amazing in how they process information, but that doesn't make them accurate.

Yeah, he says "Good morning" when he meets her and later says "Good evening, Clarice."

Bogart never says "Play it again, Sam." He says, "You played it for her, you can play it for me," and "If she can stand it, I can! Play it!"

    No. I am your father.

I don't see how anyone could get this one wrong unless they aren't familiar with the lines that lead up to it. It's these damn kids.

I have to agree with that bolded bit up there, Monster Madness is something I thoroughly enjoy every year and this year he seems to be doing an excellent job, especially compared to last year which I won't even waste my time watching most of.

Frank Henenlotter is a director that most won't care about ot appreciate, and I will admit that I have yet to see Frankenhooker (I know, for shame!), but I can definitely see how people wouldn't think much of his films. They are not for everybody. But Basket Case is still a personal favorite of mine, and has been since I was a child. All alone in the cold, cruel world...

I've watched Youtube videos of people who think that the fabric of reality has been altered because it's now JIF peanut butter instead of JIFFY, and Froot Loops instead if Fruit Loops. Or maybe they're not too perceptive and they're remembering wrong. Nah, that can't be it.

I still think that the Mendela effect is interesting and fun to talk about, but I agree with you that it's a mental phenonenon.
