I just hope the graphics and gameplay are awesome. Also, it's been my dream to have a a Nintendo system where they have a normal controller similar to an xbox controller but with Nintendo games. I'm liking the home controller design but why does it always have to be weird Nintendo!!
The pro controller is weird?
He's no-doubt talking about the JoyCon Grip. The Pro controller will almost certainly be sold separately.
Forgive me if this has already been posted as I have not read the entire thread yet. I downloaded the preview video and made a couple screengrabs featuring gameplay from a new as of yet unannounced 3D Mario title. Unlike most of the other non-Zelda related stuff featured in the video, this does not apear to be recycled footage of old Wii-U games.
I noticed two areas, one of them a hub world village (kinda like Delphino Plaza but located in a desert environment) and the other showcasing a new stage with Bills...

Take a break and relax. The work has been done for you.
I am not sure if this has been posted as this thread has been very active. My apologies if this is a repost of it.
I just thought I'd post some screengrabs anyway. All caught up with the thread now. Do you think they'll reboot Mario Kart 8 or just create an all new Mario Kart? If certain titles like MK8 and Mario Maker get reissued on Switch, it would be cool if they're still playable with Wii-U players and Switch players together online.
I also remember having a fanboy argument about carts versus disc in high school and was of the opinion that Nintendo was brilliant for not "selling out to the disc" with the N64. My friend also was a Nintendo fan, but he disagreed with me on the cart thing being a wise move.
So nice to see them returning to their roots, but it's absolutely true. 128-256Gb flash chips are a thing now, and a MicroSD flash is capable of holding far more data in a single square centimeter of real estate than even a 100Gb triple layer UHD BluRay disc. That and the fact that serial flash has faster read speed now than modern BluRay drives, makes the return to cartridge based media common sense. I always knew in the back of my mind that carts would someday overtake optical media once again in the storage department...
I'll be pre ordering this bad boy for sure. Hopefully they have limited edition models at launch.
Doubt it. Usually just basic and upper tier model. Then like the wii u have a launch game that isnt mainstream like zombieu bundle with pro controller.
it doesnt make any sense for them to release a zelda limited one at launch. That crap comes later probably around the holiday once zelda breath of the wild sales slow down. Everyone is going to pick up an nx to buy breath of the wild. No reason for them to bundle it.
limited edition stuff comes out to boost the console sales. They dont do that stuff at launch. Its not necessary
Honestly, it's the games, not the console for me. Cool that you can take it around with you but I doubt I will. I only left my house with a 3DS to Street pass. When enough games drop I might cop it.
It's an amazing console. Most people overlook the fact that it's a handheld you could play on a tv (like a PSP) and not the other way round! And as a handheld lover, this is amazing. Even if it means that there won't be 2 screen foldable consoles anymore, the DS/3DS era is coming to an end (but hey, it'll take years to finish playing the hundreds of amazing games on those consoles)... But the new Zelda, on a portable console, ready to be played in my bed and boring train rides. I'm all over it.
What bugs me the most though is: the price. The price will be that of a home console, and not a portable console. I guess it'll be about 350 bucks. And that would be a shame. I'm by no means a current gen gamer but I managed to keep up with the current Nintendo portable consoles always. Especially since Nintendo just makes it so accessible price-wise. And I have my doubts the NX will be the same....
So, no day 1 buy for me. Most probably a day 2561 buy. Like, when it's old and people want the newer Switch U console. .....
The name, "switch"....well, I keep calling it the NX. Switch doesn't sound techy enough. Where I'll think of a gaming console right away. "Yes, I finally bought a Switch!!!" - c'mon, admit it, it sounds awful.

Not really talking about the Pro controller, it's a great controller just why can't that be the main controller for the console. And then just make great games? I'm just tired of gimmicks but it's Nintendo.

I am sold on the console as a new concept and plan on picking it up on day one, but IMO just like with the Wii, the name is stupid.
A "Switch" is not a game; it was something grandma pulled off the fig tree wen you misbehaved...

New rumors from multiple sources that it will have a capacitive touch screen (multi touch) and the IR is likely for when the console is docked. This thing is also going to be an accessory machine. I can see controllers, battery packs, a new dock/expansion down the road, etc.

If it had touch screen capabilities, it would have to be. You know how bad theyd look if not?
I like the idea of this system. Im still probably not picking it up day 1 though. Ill wait for a bundle down the line. Launch systems seem to always have a flaw. Wii U had power issues. A ton of launch consoles had to be sent in to fix. I got my wii u 10-11 months later with the windwaker bundle and havent had problems. My friend got his at launch and had the power issue.

I don't know about you, but I won't be collecting nearly as much for this system as the Wii U (likely will have a bigger library [I hope] and more double dipping fromg ames already released on the U), so I will also be waiting until there is a Mario bundle. Will definitely be getting that. Also, it's good to wait to get more games and at a better price. The first year of the Wii U was frustrating to say the least from someone who bought one at launch.

My only concern would be heat, since Nvidia had one of their early tablet runs get recalled. (though my second run shield tablet has been fine, generally)
Considering that this is basically Nvidia Shield Tablet v3, it's not REALLY hardware that's completely new to the field, though.

I bought Wii-U at launch and been rock solid since day one. Switch should be fine assuming it doesn't vent heat like a hair dryer. Nintendo is the only company I trust to buy on day one since thay aren't overpowered electrical hogs. The past couple Sony/MS consoles pulled 100s of watts at launch before die shrinkage enabled a cooler running cost reduced system. My PS3 is a Slim model from right before they launched PS Move.
I think the rumor of enhanced resolution and processing power when docked makes sense. The vents on the Switch tablet could allow passive cooling off batteries and underclock the CPU to save juice. The dock could be equipped with a fan that sucks air from the vents in the tablet. By running off AC brick adapter instead of batteries and using active cooling, power could be vastly increased when docked. I imagine the fan would be barely audible, yet the graphics would actually look home console orthy on the big screen.
These chipsets manufacturers put in tablets have a lot of headroom when you add in active cooling and take batteries out of the equation, so using "turbo" mode when docked makes a lot of sense.
I would be in line on day one if the new Zelda game was available. But as it is it doesn't look like there will be games I want to play ready to go.
If somehow Twilight Princess was available for Switch I'd buy right away, and that would be a great build up for those who never got a Wii U. .. If Virtual Console provides N64 software for Wii, maybe Switch can handle Game Cube software, without dedicated remakes like Twilight Princess HD.

There's already lots of rumors from good sources that there will be GC games on VC... when this happens, what games, and how they perform are all unanswered questions even if this is true.
Virtual GC ready at launch would be great. I hope those rumors are true.
.. I love the first 3 Metroid games (NES, Game Boy and SNES), but the first person perspective detracts significantly for me with the Prime games. I'd love if they went back to 3rd person for a new game.
After Twilight Princess the next GC game I'd take would be Super Mario Strikers. Such a great multi-player game.

Switch to run at least 40% slower when undocked:

I am tech illiterate. Does that just diminish graphics or will there be other things compromised as well?
Switch to run at least 40% slower when undocked:

According to the article it's not 40% slower, but 40% of docked speed. So it's 60% slower.
