  • I guess it depends on the region. I believe mine is NOE and is thus in German. Could be a french FRA though. I'll check as soon as I get home
  • Pretty sure that the in game language is English for all three Pal B variants (NOE, FRA and ESP)
  • Let me correct that: Pretty sure that you can choose English as in-game language in all Pal B versions
  • thats what i was hoping. the rom i have gives the option of english french and dutch (i think) on boot up. just making sure both regions had the same language options. thanks!
  • should be deutsch (german) not dutch
  • While we're on this topic, what about PAL versions of Gameboy games? Like Parodius?

Im trying to figure out why there are PAL versions of Gameboy US games, where as some US games were just released there since they're compatible. Is the difference just the artwork/seal? I find that to be very odd especially if the roms are the same.
  • I am no Gameboy collector, so don´t quote me on this.

I THINK that most games had a dedicated PAL release, however, some games that sold badly in the States were then simply shipped to Europe to give them a "second chance" (maybe replacing a Pal release that was planned further down the road?). Therefore, some of the rare US Releases can be found in Europe more easily.

Metroid II on Game Boy and Super Metroid were bit for bit identical between Japan and the USA. Many black box NES games and Mario Paint too. If a US game was already multi-lingual or doesn't need more than English and was region-free the. I don't know why they would change it for certain areas of EUR/AUS.

That could be why games like Fish Dude, the Tater games etc there are no PAL versions.  But why make a PAL release for lets say, Swamp Thing or F1 Pole Position?  What you said is what they did to a lot of the late release NES stuff that you can find in Chile because they use NTSC like the US

  • To answer OP's question, seems like you can choose between English, French and German. Totally forgot about this detail. As for the game boy stuff, F1 probably has a dedicated PAL release since F1 is way bigger in Europe than it is in the US. Still found an NTSC copy here. About half the Game Boy games I find here are USA releases. However, the "second chance" theory could also make sense for the earlier games, like Tater or Fish Dude.
